The Gentleman at the End-Chapter 745 - 743: Interview
Most people were still interested in transformation, as they had always lived in the Old World and had never seen anything beyond it.
However, the term ’transformation’ still sounded somewhat terrifying, and some people at the scene asked if they could see a sample in advance.
William directly tossed out a bright red cross borrowed from Lorrian.
When the cross was thrown at its highest point, its seemingly smooth surface immediately became uneven and covered with bumps, which then began to rapidly grow and weave into a nurse in mid-air.
The nurse landed steadily beside William and nodded to the crowd.
The Patients present immediately sensed a distinctly different aura on the nurse, one that did not belong to the Old World, chaotic yet relatively stable in combination with the plague.
The Patients who had been discussing noisily,
whether they were deep-sea visitors who wanted to talk to Catherine,
or Chief Clowns about to head backstage, all stopped their chatter,
and began to observe the nurse.
Especially Art, who could feel the most distinct sense of ’chaos’ emanating from the nurse because he too harbored a similar chaos, albeit of a different kind.
Art’s chaos stemmed from the malicious proliferation of cancer cells, while the nurse’s chaos came from deeper levels, seeming as if her body’s smallest unit was in utter disarray, as if born of chaos.
"William, it looks like your human identity has exposed you to many new things. It’s a pity, I feel a connection to this kind of chaos, but if I participate in the performance, I can’t get involved with such matters," Art said.
William, wearing the Abyss Mask, turned his head away, his middle finger slightly twitching as it obscured his eyes,
"Oh? You’re still here, Senior Art? Didn’t I just mention that this technology isn’t suitable for Silver Circle Patients yet? You should focus on the performance. Blindly combining it could result in unimaginably bad situations.
How about this?
If Senior Art is willing to give his all in the Performance and refrains from deliberately sabotaging the final Performance I’ve meticulously designed, whether or not you win the Best Actor award, I will personally take you to visit the Chaos Laboratory afterward."
Art looked puzzled, "William, there’s a big contradiction in what you’re saying. If I give it my all, your Theater, even this False Moon, might not withstand it, inevitably ruining your Performance."
William quickly waved his hand, "No, no, no, didn’t I add ’deliberately’?
If, during the Performance, you feel that your life is in danger,
or sense an overwhelming challenge, please give it your all! In such a case, it wouldn’t matter if the Theater or even the entire False Moon were destroyed, and might even add to the theatricality."
"It sounds like you’re underestimating me, William... Well, I really must see what you have prepared."
Had it been before, Art might have lost his temper right then due to William’s disrespect.
But after months of seclusion, Art seemed much better at controlling his emotions, gently patting William’s shoulder before heading backstage.
With the nurse’s arrival, all contestants below the Silver Circle opted to head to the left transformation area, knowing their limits and not daring to compete with someone like Art on the same stage.
Soon, only a few Silver Circle Patients remained at the intersection,
besides Assistant Clown Catherine, ten deep-sea visitors, and two Silver Circle Patients, one of whom was a local from Lu Pu, a participant and department head sent by the Redundant Intestine Company.
Bablo Zhi Chang,
his hair styled in a Mohawk and wearing a sausage-like red leather outfit, his fingers were most unique, resembling intestinal structures and seemed to be stuffed with something.
Another Patient had just crossed into the Silver Circle and also wanted to try his luck.
Catherine formally met with the deep-sea visitors here. The brief conversation seemed not very pleasant, almost escalating into a conflict,
William wearing the Abyss Mask immediately stood between Catherine and Lia Roman,
"Calm down. Miss Catherine is currently an indispensable figure in our Circus. Please, if you wish to discuss deep-sea matters, wait until after the Performance. If trouble arises here..."
William suddenly leaned forward, his face almost touching Lia, an ’Ancestor Primordial Body’, "I might have to forcefully expel you from ’Yin Head’."
"If you are not convinced, you can choose to challenge me. As the chief actor of the circus, I am always ready to fight."
Behind him, Catherine also leaned forward, pressing her head against William’s arm in agreement, "Oh, William, don’t be so harsh. Mom is just really worried about me! After all, I was her favorite, wasn’t I?"
Her reverence for her mother in the Arc Sea had long since vanished.
Lia stared at the youth emitting an aura of the Abyss before her, considering the Duke behind this performance, she could only suppress her temper for the moment.
"You seem to have a good relationship with my eldest daughter? I can smell her scent on you."
"Catherine is the one who introduced me to the circus, we are quite familiar privately."
"How many descendants have you produced?"
"We are not that familiar... If you don’t mind, I can take you backstage. The audition may take some time."
"Daughters, let us go~" Lia walked alongside William, her steps moist, as her nine daughters followed behind.
At that moment, Lia’s mother recalled another issue, "By the way, Mr. William, you seemed to have made a deal with Fish Origin in the human world before, helping him gather intelligence about the Silver Sea Domain. Is that right?"
"Wasn’t the issue with the Silver Sea Domain resolved? Didn’t we return the territorial rights to Fish Origin? We had urgent matters at the time and left early. We thought there was no need to report back since everything was resolved."
"But... one of my daughters, the unattractive, balding Kexia, she was following you guys the whole time to monitor the operation, but she ended up missing. Do you know where she is? And is the regent of the New Moon also within this False Moon called Yin Head? I have some issues I’d like to discuss with him."
As she spoke, Lia’s tentacle-like tongue slithered out, slightly licking William’s neck in an attempt to taste the flavor of the moon, but alas, Yellow Skin had already filtered out the taste.
"So salty... You’ve been sweating a lot recently, Mr. William."
"A good friend of mine just came home; he’s quite hot, which made me sweat a bit."
Catherine hurriedly came forward upon hearing this, "Little Grape is back!"
"Yes~ I will cooperate with Little Grape to supervise the upcoming performance diligently. Make sure you don’t break any rules."
"Ah, you’re not participating? I was hoping to team up with you during the performance... It’s really scary being alone," Catherine said, somewhat disappointed.
William adopted the posture of a game host, "I may or may not participate, you’ll find out when the time comes!"
"Okay, this is the backstage area. Everyone, please proceed in order to take my audition. Those who are not qualified, please go to the audience seats on your own, and don’t be stubborn."
The audition was conducted one-on-one in a private booth.
The so-called audition was actually a verification of fear, conducted by William using social phobia to engage in various straightforward interactions.
"Ah!"
Every few minutes, a woman’s scream would emanate from the booth, reflexively fleeing and being eliminated.
Out of the nine daughters brought by Lia’s mother, seven were directly eliminated; they blamed themselves but were unwilling to stay alone with William, just thinking of the recent conversation made them dig holes in the ground with their toes.
When it was Catherine’s turn, the ground already had a hole deep enough to accommodate a person, indicating how awkward it was.
Tied in a high ponytail, Catherine stepped into the booth and first leaned forward to blow a kiss across the table to William’s profile,
"Thanks for helping me out, Mom is quite formidable~ Let’s get started, and let me see how your phobia has progressed."
"You don’t need to be verified, just go through the motions. The purpose of the audition is merely to ensure everyone’s capacity for fear. As a main member of the circus team, you’re automatically qualified.
The upcoming performance will involve some truly dangerous elements, be cautious and don’t act tough."
Catherine stuck out her tongue, licking her lips, "Truly dangerous? In my eyes, the only real danger here is you, the boss... Tell me, what kind of danger?"
William did not answer; his hands slowly moved away from covering his face.
Catherine, who had been laughing and carefree, suddenly froze, "Your eyes!!"
"Yes~ that’s the danger... The performance should prioritize surviving, don’t die. We still need to rely on you, Catherine, to open the passage to the outside world, don’t worry about my eyes, I’m in too good of a condition now."
