Chapter 17 - Tournament (2/2)

Darien looked at the nervous figure in front of him and his face twisted into a ferocious grin: "Your luck's run out loser. Just watch how I break you like before!"

The ambiguous words made James put his hands on his butt and quickly run through his memories. Only after running through them a few times, did he finally sigh in relief.

Dammit! That scared him!

James decided to pummel this boy until he couldn't walk for a while.

The counter at the top of the arena began to run down: "3...2...1!"

"Flame Blast!"

A long stream of fire headed toward James. He nimbly rolled to the side and then quickly stood up to avoid another attack.

The arena was large, so James kept retreating while avoiding Darien's attacks one by one. He didn't want to get close and relied on the distance to reduce the intensity of the flame attacks.

"How long are you going to keep running?!"

Darien was getting mad now. His skin grew hotter and hotter and the flames ejecting from his hand became more violent.

There was a large crowd gathered around watching the fight. Seeing that James was just running around the arena and not fighting back people began to talk in loud voices.

"Is he trying to waste his mana? What a fool!"

"Doesn't he realise that Darien is from the Wren family?"

"Yeah, fire spells basically cost him no mana at all!"

It is said that long ago the ancestor of the Wren family had acquired the essence blood of a fire dragon, from then on his descendants had a little bit of fire dragon bloodline within them. Darien was assigned to be Ryan's subordinate mainly because of the fact he had a higher concentration of dragon blood.

While it was still fairly thin all things considered, the boost it gave level 1 spells was quite significant.

James couldn't hear what the crowd was saying because of the magic shield that surrounded the arena, but he could tell that the person in front of him was getting more and more belligerent.

The flames made dark scorch marks as it crashed onto the arena floor, and some of them even singed the corner of his robes.

Hearing the words 'Fire Blast' over and over again, James almost wanted to clean out his ears. Didn't this idiot learn any other spells?

During this period James had let his mana restore to almost [150] - any more and others would notice the difference. He calculated in his mind.

Only a few seconds...it should be enough.

At this time one of the students in the crowd felt a wave of darkness fall over him. Just when he was confused, the student looked up to the sky and noticed that the huge cumulus clouds were blocking out the sun temporarily, casting long shadows onto the ground.

"Water Blast!"

At this James finally made a move, he sent a jet stream of water directly against the incoming attack. Suddenly there was a loud banging sound and then immediately a wave of steam filled the arena.

"What's happening?"

"Hey, hey, I can't see anything!"

The crowd looked at the arena that was completely covered up and complained.

Meanwhile, within the dense fog, Darien sneered: "Just little tricks."

Although he was surprised that James already knew a level 1 spell, so what? As long as he gets close to him, Darien can immediately blast him away with his fire magic.

Even though his spells had low cost, they still used some mana. At this point he was running a little dry, so Darien decided to rush forward as soon as the fog cleared and unleash all his mana into a giant fire blast.

It had only been a dozen seconds but the white mist was already clearing up. Darien looked around the thinning fog, and then suddenly stopped. He could see a dark figure coming towards him.

He wants to ambush me?

Darien immediately wanted to send out all his mana and finish the fight immediately, but he paused. He still had some sense. What if it was just a trap?

"Fire Blast!" Darien raised his hand about to shoot out a probing stream of fire, but then his face turned green.

He couldn't move!

He realised that at some point the fog around him had condensed on his body and turned to ice. It was constantly battling against the residual heat from his body to restrict his movements.

Why is his ice magic so strong?

His body was constantly burning at high temperatures but he still couldn't move. What he didn't notice was the dark shadow squirming fiercely on the ground beneath him.

At this point Darien was completely panicked. He didn't expect that this kid who just became a level 1 mage would have so many tricks!

Looking at the dark figure that was slowly approaching, Darien began unleashing all his mana at once. The flames on his body erupted with force and immediately melted away the ice, then went on to form a giant swirling dragon that blasted toward the incoming figure.

"Fire Dragon!"

Bang!!!

The giant explosion and shockwave immediately cleared away the surrounding fog. The arena was finally visible again.

Darien knelt on the ground, panting for breath, completely exhausted. "It's over..."

He was still a bit scared right now. He had almost capsized the whole ship.

Only after glancing at the scene of the explosion and the crumbling ground and dark scorch marks, did he finally relax. He even felt a little frivolous: "They won't blame me if this waste dies right?"

Darien shook his head and then looked towards the crowd with a victorious smile on his face.

However, what met him were a bunch of pale faces wearing shocked expressions. Even from the middle of the arena, he could clearly see their wide eyes. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"What's wrong..."

Suddenly, he felt the feeling of cold rising from his feet. His body gradually became stiff and a sound almost like an intimate whisper came from behind him.

"Ice Spear."

"Ahhhhhhhhh!" A heart wrenching sound echoed throughout the arena. And then another. And another. And another.

One by one, the ice spears plunged into Darien. After a while the bloodied body finally fell to the ground in a pool of water, and blood and snot.

Then there was an emotionless sound and the magic shields lifted.

"Arena 4. Darien Wren has fallen unconscious. The winner is James Woodrow."
