The Glorious Transcendent-Chapter 62: Face of Death: Struggle with the Wolf (2/2)
As the axe neared Kogan’s palm, less than a centimeter away, the wolf violently jerked its body, dragging him away.
"..."
Kogan stared at his axe, now buried in the ground as he was pulled farther from it.
The angle of the throw—everything had been calculated. Considering the wolf’s wild and random movements, the axe should have landed in his hand.
Now, everything had become—
"Strange."
Ling Shao cleaved a wolf in half with his sword.
"There are too many of them, and they’re targeting me alone."
The number of wolves wasn’t the issue—it was their behavior. It was... suicidal.
They hurled themselves at him from every direction, yet not a single one managed to leave even a scratch.
The rest of the squad was dealing with a few wolves on their own. After all, each wolf could give a Rank One individual a hard time, but the more refinement cycles one had completed, the easier it became to bring them down.
Still, the majority of the wolves had their focus locked onto Leader Ling Shao.
"Are they trying to...?"
Ling Shao glanced around the battlefield, and from what he could see, everyone was engaged in combat.
At the very least, a Rank Two wolf should’ve come for him—being in the same rank, it would naturally be drawn to him. But so far, there was no sign of one.
Of course, there were times when no Rank Two beast would show up.

With ragged breaths and a torn lung, Kogan struggled to find a solution, refusing to surrender to such a pitiful fate.
But it didn’t seem like he had one. He was unarmed—and the wolf was clinging to him from behind with unrelenting force.
"I have no choice..." Kogan gritted his teeth.
He opened his palm, and a faint gray light began to shine. But before the light could fully take shape—
"L-Leave him alone, you monster!"
An arrow struck the wolf’s body.
Kogan turned his head slightly and saw Mei Lan, trembling, aiming her bow at the beast.
If he could see her in this darkness, it meant she was within the wolf’s range.
Under the wolf’s icy gaze, with a trembling body on the verge of collapse from fear, Mei Lan drew another arrow, ready to fire.
She didn’t feel the closeness between her and them.; she couldn’t think of anything else except that her future was about to be crushed in front of her.
She released the second arrow, and from that distance, it seemed as though the arrow was traveling instantaneously.
The wolf’s skin was tough and thick, and the arrow didn’t have enough strength to penetrate it.
The arrow neared the wolf’s body, and with a glint in his icy eyes, he turned his head toward the arrow, placing Kogan between them.
"No..."
Mei Lan felt as though her heart would leap out of her chest.
She came to save her future, but now she was about to kill him completely.
Just centimeter from piercing Kogan’s forehead, the yellow gleam in his eyes intensified, and he extended his right hand at full speed and caught the arrow.
At the same time, Kogan shoved the arrow directly into the wolf’s icy eye without wasting any time.
The wolf let out a cry of pain, standing on its hind legs, lifting Kogan more than two meters into the air, then slamming him down forcefully onto the ground.
Kogan pulled out the arrow and plunged it into the wolf’s other eye.
This caused the wolf to become agitated, running in a specific direction and hitting Kogan into a tree with all its strength.
"Ugh," Kogan coughed up blood. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Because his hand was still gripping the arrow lodged in the wolf’s eye, this left his right side unprotected.
As he collided with the tree, it crushed his ribs, and his right lung and liver were on the verge of collapsing due to the sudden pressure.
The wolf’s power was no joke—its muscular, agile body, intelligence, and ruthless killing instinct made it a terrifyingly formidable beast.
With bloodshot eyes, Kogan pressed the arrow, driving it as deep as he could into the wolf’s head.
Though the wolf’s skull was thick, as long as you had enough strength, you could pierce it.
Plus, the penetration was from the eye, which made it a bit easier.
"Hold on... hold on..."
Mei Lan continued chasing them, unable to shoot in this situation.
What if she accidentally killed Kogan?
She couldn’t comprehend what had happened the first time, but she didn’t want to repeat the same mistake.
She wanted to help by distracting the wolf so Kogan could break free, and once it targeted her, she’d run toward the leader Ling Shao.
Due to the terrifying scene, she couldn’t think straight, failing to realize that the wolf was faster than her.
Besides, the wolf wasn’t stupid enough to leave the powerful, nearly collapsing person in its jaws to chase after a weak, ordinary girl.
The struggle between the two continued; as Kogan applied pressure, the wolf did the same with its jaws.
Whoever reached their limit first would lose.
After several wild and savage twists from the wolf, the arrow was fully lodged in its head.
Finally, the wolf fell dead to the ground.
The entire time, the wolf never let go of Kogan, and even after its death, it still gripped him tightly with its jaws.
"Oh my God..." Mei Lan ran toward them quickly.
Her face paled when she saw Kogan covered in his own blood, on the verge of death.
She tried to pry open the wolf’s mouth to free Kogan, but how could she manage that?
But the wolf didn’t last long; after a few moments, it began to transform into gray mist and vanished into the air.
"Please don’t die... please..."
Mei Lan placed her hands on Kogan’s body, and a white light illuminated.
After several minutes, Mei Lan felt dizzy, her face growing even paler.
"He’s not... improving."
She tried to heal him with all the essence she had; if it were like before, she wouldn’t have spent more than ten essences.
But now, he was like her life, no matter the cost to heal him, she would give everything she had.
Kogan’s breathing grew heavy, each inhale feeling like pulling a chain of mountains.
He could feel his wounds radiating with a strange cold aura.
He stared at Mei Lan, who was exerting all her effort to heal him.
If someone were watching from afar and saw Mei Lan’s pitiful state, they would envy Kogan for having a lover who cared for him this much.
But in reality, she was doing it for herself, as if she were literally repairing her future with her own hands.
This is what sacrifice in relationships looks like—no matter how it manifests, its foundation remains self-interest.
From the darkness behind Mei Lan, a man emerged with sharp gray eyes, resting the blade of his sword on his shoulder.
It was the leader, Ling Shao
