THE GOD EATER-Chapter 141: Small World.
This beautiful sight made him say in awe, "There is even a sky and a small star here. So this is what they call a small world. I wonder where it comes from."
The sight was such that if he didn’t know that he was inside a mountain, this whole place would be the real world to him. There was practically no difference between this space and the world outside of it.
The only indication that this space wasn’t the world of the Blessed Heaven World was the dark hole in the mountain through which they came. That hole was a swirling mass of black and white energy. It didn’t look natural at all.
The train finally stopped some distance away from the exit of the tunnel. There was a station there, but it was mostly empty. However, there was a group of people who were already there waiting for them.
After the train stopped, everyone got out and joined up with the people waiting for them at the station. These people looked important, and they were the only ones around, so they were the only ones to ask for directions.
These people were five in number. The person who appeared to be their leader was also the strongest person around. She was a rank 4 cultivator riding a large brown bear.
After they approached her, she looked down at them from the back of the bear and said, "Welcome to Virtuous Heavens or what we call Earthly Battlefield E6-137 . You will be stationed here for the duration of your deployment. I hope for your sake and mine that you will survive until the end of your service."
She patted her chest and said, "I am Amelia. I am the highest commanding officer here. You will take all assignments from me."
Then she took out a list of waves and held it at them as she said, "I have all of your names here. I will use it now to assign you to your posts. When I am done, you will receive a notification from the sect telling you where to go."
"In the meantime, my assistant here will brief you on our situation. Feel free to ask him any questions about the things that you are not sure about. Don’t hold back with your questions. After all, your life is what is on the line now."
After saying this, she fell silent and gestured to one of the four people behind her. The one on her immediate right stepped forward and began speaking with them.
Her assistant was a man with a single eye, a cleft chin, a mechanical arm, and a mechanical eye in his empty socket. He was rank 3, but he spoke with an air of superiority that made it seem as if he were the highest-ranking officer here.
He also had an invisible sign above his head saying that his life had been insured. The level of insurance wasn’t stated, but it is to be expected that, at the very least, whoever kills Greg will have to pay two times his nominal value.
While the man was speaking to them, Amelia was busy assigning them to their post. She did this using her sect token. But while she was doing this, she was listening to what her assistant was saying, and she was discreetly observing them.
Her assistant said, "I am Greg. I am doing it because I must, not because I want to. You’re lucky that you get to encounter me in this situation, but I assure you that this is the worst condition you will see me in, if you ever see me again."
"According to your mission details that you were given by the sect, you were sent here to secure the interests of the sect by resisting the Martial Body Sect. This is the party that we have been having in this god-forsaken small world for the last 27 years, and we are making good progress doing it."
"With this small world lodged in the Northern Domain, every human born in this world will be a soul stolen from the cycle of reincarnation of the Northern Domain. Our job is to recruit those humans into our sect and let the Four Directions Sect mark their souls."
"Once the sect marks their souls, those humans will have to reincarnate into the Central Domain when they die. This is how we slowly siphon the human resources of the Northern Domain into our Central Domain."
He glanced at all of them with a look of condensation as he said, "Now I’ll talk about our military operations. It is common sense at this point, really. If you already know how we do it, good for you. If you don’t know, then I am willing to bet that you’re a waste of space and my time."
Amelia heard this and growled, saying, "Get to the point."
So Greg quickly got to the point, saying, "There are many towns and cities in this small world. We call them posts."
"You will be sent to a post with the duty of protecting the post and recruiting humans from the post every 10 years. The more you recruit, the higher the merit points you will earn."
"But the Martial Body Sect will try to stop us or interfere with the recruitment process. They will attack the post either to kill us or destroy it completely. In both cases, your job is to defend your posts and the people living in the town or city."
"In general, the larger the posting, the more people you can recruit from it and the more merit points you will earn. But the larger the posting, the more the Martial Body Sect will attack it and the higher the danger will be."
"Fortunately, the more enemies you kill, the more merit points. So danger also represents opportunity. What will determine which is which is power. If you have enough power, then you won’t need to spend 10 years here like some useless people."
