THE GOD EATER-Chapter 168: Victory Conditions.
That captain had said, "Earthly Battlefield E6-137 is dotted with fortress cities, and the fortress cities belong to both sides. Both the Four Directions Sect and the Martial Body Sect are building fortress cities, but for different purposes."
"The purpose of the Four Directions Sect for building the fortress cities is to steal the souls of the Northern Domain. We achieve this goal by building cities that people can live in. Every once in a while, we recruit the young people of the city into the Four Directions Sect and mark their souls with our mark."
"The larger the city, the more people we can recruit into the Four Directions Sect and the more souls we can steal from the Northern Domain per year. So another method to earn merit points is to expand the size of posts or build new posts."
The captain was sitting down while he said this. It was one of his subordinates that he brought with him who was driving the airship. So he was relaxed as he was speaking. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
He smirked and said, "As for the Martial Body Sect, they build fortress cities to protect and take up the limited amount of reincarnated souls that this small world can allow. So the more cities they build and the bigger the cities, the fewer souls would be stolen by our Four Directions Sect."
"However, no matter how much they try, the Martial Body Sect can’t win this war by building cities. This is because, as long as this small world is open, it will be like a wound that is constantly making the Northern Domain bleed."
"So, in order to win this war, the ultimate goal of the Martial Body Sect is to close the portal that the Four Directions Sect keeps using to send reinforcements into this world and eliminate every influence of the Four Directions Sect in the small world."
At this point, the captain shook his head and said, "In comparison, there is no urgency on our side. Our ultimate goal is to keep this small world open. So the longer the war lasts, the better for us."
"Our ultimate goal is why we can be relaxed on the Earthly Battlefield. We can stay in our cities and recruit new people in peace. We won’t fight since we don’t need to."
Then he smiled and asked them, saying, "Isn’t that good?"
"Unfortunately, the Martial Body Sect won’t allow us to have peace. They have to keep sending people to fight and kill us if this war is ever to end. This is why the frontlines, where we are posted, are so dangerous."
He shook his head and said, "The frontline is basically the dividing line between our territory and the territory of the Martial Body Sect. Their goal is to wipe out the Four Directions Sect completely, so we will always be the first ones to suffer their attacks any time they decide to make a move on us."
"The good news is that this way, those of us on the frontlines have more opportunities to earn merit points by killing enemies. The bad news is that we suffer the most casualties and need constant reinforcements."
He looked at all of them and said solemnly, "That is why you are all here. You’re the next batch of meat being thrown into this grinder. You should know this and treat this mission seriously."
With that said, the captain asked them, saying, "Any questions? Raise your hands if you do."
Many people raised their hands immediately. Apparently, there were a lot of people who had something that they didn’t know.
This made the captain chuckle and say, "So many people with questions, despite the spirited question and answer session that Greg held? I wonder why this is the case."
Then he pointed at someone and said, "You. What’s your question?"
The person he pointed to asked a question, which the captain answered briskly without insulting the person. The captain pointed to another person and also answered their question.
Loki had watched all of these happen while smirking and saying to himself, "So, a question and answer session can be this peaceful? Who would have thought it?"
The questions lasted for a few hours before the cabin went silent. He learned a lot from the session, but he also appreciated the silence because it helped him to focus more on the energy threads that he was fusing in his brain.
Now that he is running towards his post, he is still fusing energy threads in his brain. His progress has become slower, though. This is because he is using his Life Ability.
He had to use his Life Ability to enhance the power of his body and arrive at his destination quickly because his body is still too weak. So his body is currently encapsulated in the black-plated armor.
He can stroll to his destination, and he should be able to make it in the remaining five days that he has left to report for duty, but he doesn’t want to stick around the frontlines for so long because it is too dangerous.
Fortunately, he was able to arrive at his post without issues. The best part was that by the time he arrived, Greg had already arrived. So he didn’t have to wait long for confirmation.
After he arrived at the city gate and proved that he wasn’t from the Martial Body Sect, someone went to inform Greg about his presence. Greg then came to the city gate to confirm his identity and allow him to enter the city.
Greg didn’t waste time doing this at all. He took one look at Loki and allowed him to enter the city.
Greg didn’t want to give Loki any trouble because Loki is the only one still alive among the ten recruits that he gained this month. The next batch won’t come for another few weeks or at least, a week. So he was quite appreciative of this fresh recruit of his.
