Chapter 124: Chapter 121- Here’s My Full Theory

Yoon-Jae watched as Sol placed a few things on the desk.

A small book, a folded paper, another book that looked to be a journal, and finally the two crumbled pieces of paper he took from the corpse earlier.

He then reached over to pick up another paper on the desk and place it next to the other things.

However, just as Sol was about to speak, his head suddenly turned, and he looked at the paper that was revealed after he picked up the paper.

Yoon-Jae saw Sol pause before he reached over and picked up that paper as well.

"Is that evidence too?"

Sol nodded.

"It’s new evidence I just found, but it supports my theory."

After saying that, Sol held up the fairy tale book and began explaining.

"This fairy tale book is about a mystical creature called the Nian Beast."

Sol then placed the book on Yoon-Jae’s side of the desk.

Yoon-Jae picked it up and flipped it open, meanwhile, Sol continued to say.

"It’s a creature that awakens once a year to prey on children in villages. Note the name of the village the Deity’s son was taken from Brother Yoon-Jae."

Yoon-Jae nodded as he read the book.

After he finished reading, he turned to look at Su Jin and said.

"So, the story is real?"

Sol smiled, Yoon-Jae was smart enough to come to the same conclusion as him without all the evidence he had. But he figured this out because he put so much importance on it when he handed it over.

Sol nodded then said.

"Not only is the story real Brother Yoon-Jae, but I believe there is a twist. Su Moon didn’t rescue his son back then, but the Nian Beast who somehow stole his appearance."

After saying this, Sol unfolded the folded paper and placed it in front of Yoon-Jae. It was the one that had Su Moon’s doubts about his son at the end.

Yoon-Jae placed down the fairy tale book and read the folded paper. He frowned as he did.

Sol then placed down the woman’s journal.

Yoon-Jae, while still frowning, placed down the folded paper and flipped open the journal. After some time, he eagerly skipped to see what was on the last pages, but he froze when he saw it was blank.

Yoon-Jae then ran his finger over the spine of the book where the two pages were torn.

Sol closely observed his actions, and he could tell Yoon-Jae was having similar thoughts he had when he first discovered the journal.

"The Nian Beast has the ability to swap appearance with someone?"

Sol nodded and then handed over the first paper he picked up from the desk to Yoon-Jae.

It was the document that detailed Su Jin’s new facial features and his background when he came here as a servant.

Yoon-Jae read it and immediately took notice of his place of origin... ’Peace Lake Village.’

"That’s why you had to wait until the suppressive force faded to find the missing pages, you weren’t sure of its ability, but if this impostor had them in his robes, then he was the killer."

Sol nodded once again, but Yoon-Jae suddenly raised several questions.

All of them were ones Sol similarly had.

Why did he have a different appearance?

How did he escape from the Nian Beast that was a mythical creature?

And how did the dagger end up in the real Su Jin’s hand?

Sol answered his questions with the theories he came up with and Yoon-Jae went silent, but he still picked up the two pieces of paper Sol got from the Nian Beast.

"She was about to meet the new servant who was acting strange. Not knowing he was Su Jin, her son. However, the Nian Beast convinced her to avoid him and that he would speak to him... along with Su Moon in this office tomorrow. Which is today when the murders took place."

Yoon-Jae said as he read the two missing pages before he sighed and added.

"Everything you said makes sense; it looks like you really solve this mystery. That means I wasted my time trying to find a way out."

Yoon-Jae turned around to look at the time remaining before he said.

"We have around four hours remaining. Are you planning on dripping the Nian Beast’s blood onto the rune or are you going to continue reading those bo-"

"Wait, Brother Yoon-Jae. I’m not finished yet."

Yoon-Jae paused and looked at Sol confused.

Sol picked up the last piece of paper and set it down in front of Yoon-Jae. His hand remained on it blocking its contents.

"Everything I said was true, well, that’s what I believe with 80% certainty until I saw this paper just now."

"What is it?"

Sol paused for a moment, then said slowly.

"It’s the document that details the employment of a second servant in the palace. Or rather the first one."

Yoon-Jae frowned.

"What does that mean, is the killer not the Nian Beast? Wait, is it Su Moon?!"

Yoon-Jae turned to look at Su Moon’s corpse in the corner.

The creator of this place is the killer?

However, Sol shook his head and said.

"Brother Yoon-Jae, it couldn’t be Su Moon, that doesn’t make sense since he’s the owner of this palace and Legacy Inheritance. It’s neither the beautiful mother nor the daughter in the other rooms as well. The killer is in this room, and it’s definitely the Nian Beast."

Sol went silent all of a sudden and looked at Yoon-Jae’s expression closely.

Sol took his hand off the paper and leaned back into his chair.

"Here’s my full theory."

Sol said as he relaxed completely in the chair.

"Everything I explained is what truly could have happened, but let’s factor in the other servant now. First, the Nian Beast did as he told the mother in this journal entry, that he would bring that weird servant to their father. When he came into this office, he sat down in the chair you’re in. But the Nian Beast was nervous, almost desperate because if he didn’t handle this carefully his identity could be revealed, but he didn’t show it. He went on to explain to Su Moon how this new servant was troubling his mother and that he imprisoned him, but he should quickly be sent back to the village he came from. After listening to his son, Su Moon took out the documents that detailed this second servant and went over them one last time.

"However, whether he saw the familiar name of the village where he had once lost his son, or maybe it was the Nian Beast’s behavior, but something caused Su Moon to be suspicious. This suspicion wasn’t just now appearing, it was always there, and it just compounded until now. So, he said... ’Bring me this servant!"

Sol suddenly yelled this statement aloud. Meanwhile, Yoon-Jae was still remaining silent. He had been rubbing Little Zeel’s fur moments ago, but now he had stopped.

"That was what Su Moon yelled to the first servant that was at the door, but the Nian Beast tried to convince his Su Moon that there was no reason to call for this no-name servant that he had imprisoned for worrying his mother. However, he eventually failed, and the first servant left to bring the real Su Jin to this office. But how could the Nian Beast allow that to happen? The real Su Jin might say something only he could know. The Nian Beast could swap not just appearances with someone, but their memories and physical body as well. That’s how he fooled everyone. But how would he explain to Su Moon why this no-name servant knew secrets only his son would know? He couldn’t, he would be discovered..."
