The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan!-Chapter 500: Sarcastic Taunts
Penelope Thatcher angrily said, "Jordan Yorke, no matter what, this is my home. You were just my nanny once, can you have some self-awareness? Don’t act like you’re not an outsider?"
Now, Penelope genuinely wondered what was wrong with her eyes back then that she thought this guy was decent? Not only did she hire him as a nanny, but she even introduced him to a job.
She really wanted to travel back and stop her blind self.
Jordan Yorke listened to Penelope’s words, eyes wide, as if he’d heard something unbelievable.
He’s been trying to repay Penelope for saving his life, even going so far as to humble himself by doing her laundry and cooking for her, obedient to her every word.
And yet, in Penelope’s eyes, he’s just a nanny?
That’s too much!
How could Penelope say that?
He’s a grown man, how could he possibly be a nanny?
Jordan glared at Penelope with anger and indignation, like he was looking at a heartbreaker.
"Penelope, how can you equate my contributions to those of a nanny to their employer? Don’t you feel a pang of guilt saying such things?"
He sacrificed so much for Penelope, he himself almost lost track.
He’d never treated anyone so well, and yet Penelope not only overlooked repaying him, she even turned ungrateful.
Even someone from the countryside like him knows to be grateful and to repay, so why doesn’t Penelope?
Penelope looked utterly baffled, unaware of what she said wrong.
"If you’re not my nanny, then what are you? Didn’t I pay you a salary?"
She remembered clearly saying from the very beginning, it was because she pitied Jordan, so she temporarily let him be her nanny.
How did it turn out that she owed Jordan while he worked?
Indeed, there are some good deeds in this world that just shouldn’t be done, right?
Jordan’s chest heaved with the indignation of Penelope’s brazen attitude, "Penelope, you’ve gone too far! I never thought you’d treat me this way!"
Then Jordan stormed out in a huff.
Penelope, "..."
What’s with this damn temper? Who spoiled him?
Penelope decided to throw Jordan’s things out and get the locks changed.
She no longer wanted any ties with Jordan Yorke, especially after discovering traces of certain activities on her bed; she wished to never see Jordan again,
It utterly disgusted her.
After Jordan left, he lingered at the door, expecting Penelope to come out, apologize, and urge him back.
But to his surprise, Penelope’s heart was that hard; she didn’t follow him out when he left.
Jordan could only leave resentfully.
Penelope was on her way out of the complex, passing by a nearby pedestrian street, when she saw several older women gathered around another woman of the same age, talking.
Penelope initially didn’t pay particular attention to the group, as people from nearby often strolled there.
It wasn’t until she caught sight of the necklace around the older woman in the center’s neck.
She vaguely remembered she also had a necklace like that.
It was worth hundreds of thousands, something she instantly liked and purchased on sight.
But unfortunately, she had so much jewelry, and as someone who quickly grew tired of things, she never got around to wearing it, eventually forgetting about the necklace.
However, she distinctly remembered the necklace was in her apartment, where she kept all her purchases.
Yet she hadn’t seen that necklace earlier, assuming she had just carelessly tossed it somewhere.
But seeing that older woman wearing the necklace, Penelope suddenly halted.
The older woman’s outfit was clearly ordinary, yet she wore a necklace worth hundreds of thousands.
Even the earrings she wore were from the same set.
Could the counterfeits these days really be made so convincingly?
She couldn’t help but eavesdrop on the group’s conversation.
One woman expressed envy to the older woman, "Oh, Sis Raines, you’re truly blessed, having such a beautiful daughter and now a capable son-in-law, elevating you to wealthy status. Look at the jewelry your son-in-law bought you; it must be worth hundreds of thousands, right? Wearing it, you’re all glamorously radiant, just like those elite ladies on TV. We’ll feel embarrassed to visit you to play in the future..."
Others also flattered the older woman.
The older woman replied modestly, her eyes brimming with pride.
Back when she had Renee, these people flaunted in front of her, saying that without a son she’d have no one to care for her in old age, doomed to a bleak fate.
And now? Her one daughter outshone many sons, landing a wealthy heir, lavishing gold and silver gifts upon her parents, and planning to buy them a house one day.
Who cares if they didn’t have a son? They lived like the elite regardless.
Sooner or later, these people wouldn’t even possess the authority to converse with her.
Truly, people go through ups and downs; who could have predicted that the person once belittled by others would rise notably over the decades?
"There’s no need to feel discouraged; although you might not get this lucky even if you work hard your whole life, you can still strive. Since your families have many sons, maybe they can also marry into a wealthy family..."
A few of the middle-aged women looked displeased.
Cursing others’ sons to marry into another’s family, isn’t that excessive?
But now, they had to flatter Mrs. Raines.
When Mrs. Raines initially claimed her daughter would marry into a wealthy family, they didn’t believe, responding with sarcasm.
But now Mrs. Raines ventured out wearing such expensive jewelry, leaving them no choice but to believe.
They couldn’t afford to offend Mrs. Raines now, fearing future retaliation.
So the group continued to flatter Mrs. Raines, as she proudly raised her chin to the sky.
Penelope listened for a while, understanding, and her face darkened.
Because the older woman’s son-in-law was Jordan Yorke.
In the older woman’s eyes, her son-in-law, Jordan Yorke, was a low-key wealthy heir, despite having immense family wealth, he lived in an ordinary community, drove a modest car.
Yet, he treated his future in-laws exceedingly well, frequently gifting luxury watches, designer skincare products, and precious jewelry.
He seemed prepared to give his heart to her daughter.
Where could you find such a wealthy, devoted husband? Jealous? But too bad, you could only envy.
Penelope just let out a mocking laugh.
A rich heir?
Handing out watches, skincare products, and jewelry?
Where her missing items ended up was obvious now.
Penelope never thought that on a whim to do good, hiring a nanny, she ended up with a scoundrel, who not only lingered without leaving, but was also a thief, stealing her valuables to flaunt.
Ha.
Not only brazenly stealing her things, they dared let people flaunt them publicly, did Jordan Yorke really believe she wouldn’t recognize, or did he think she wouldn’t hold him accountable?
Penelope gave a cold laugh, not rushing over but composing herself and returning to her apartment.
After all, the thief wasn’t that woman, why bother going over and arguing with them?
Penelope returned to her apartment, still infuriated, unexpectedly, Jordan, who stormed out earlier, had come back.
