The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 229 She Was the Mole
That night, news of Nathaniel Cooper’s death spread across the nation.
The Minister of National Defense had gone rogue—secret military bases, breeding parasites, building biolabs—it was a scandal no one could tolerate. The backlash was overwhelming.
In a dimly lit room, Nathaniel stared at the news report and let out a mocking chuckle. "Fools... You’ll pay for this sooner or later."
He walked over to the bed, eyes fixed on the sleeping woman. He still couldn’t believe she’d taken a bullet for him. That had to mean she was loyal, right?
Gently brushing her cheek with his hand, he whispered, “Once you’ve recovered, I’ll show you our world. Soon, this entire country will belong to me. Once Tristan Reid is gone, no one will be able to stop me from expanding the armory. Then our labs will create an army of the undead... We’ll take it all.”
Under the blanket, Nicole Flynn tightened her grip. This man was insane. She couldn’t let this happen.
She never thought of herself as some noble savior, but there was no way she’d let her family live through this nightmare.
Day after day passed.
Megan Shaw paced restlessly. “I just... I’ve got a really bad feeling.”
Tristan reached up and ruffled her hair gently. “I’m here, aren’t I? So, stop overthinking.”
“I dunno, it just feels... wrong.”
Just then, Nicole’s voice came through the computer speakers. “Sir, Cooper’s taking me to tour the bases today. Keep track of the coordinates. That guy’s a lunatic—don’t let him pull this off.”
Tristan said firmly, “Don’t worry. As long as we’re breathing, he’s not getting away with this.”
Megan quickly added, “Nicole, stay safe, okay?”
Nicole chuckled softly. “Thanks. If anything happens to me, please... look after my family.”
“You have my word,” Tristan replied. “Karl Freeman’s cleared all the parasites. Before the mission starts, we’ll contact you with details to help you protect yourself.”
“If it gets too dangerous... just blow the place up. I’m not worth the risk.”
Megan smiled faintly. “If you make it out, let’s be friends.”
Nicole was quiet for a moment, then answered, voice thick with emotion, “Thank you, Mrs. Reid.”
“Call me Megan.”
“Okay, Megan. Gotta disconnect. He’s getting suspicious.”
As the headset went quiet, Megan looked at Tristan. “How risky is her mission?”
Tristan lowered his lashes, voice calm. “She’s got maybe a one-in-ten chance. If he finds out, Cooper won’t spare her.” 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Megan fell silent. All afternoon, she was sighing, visibly worried.
Tristan tried to reassure her. “It might turn out okay. I’ve already moved everyone from the Reid, Lewis, and Shaw families.”
Megan blinked. “You just moved them? What did you tell them?”
“Said you’d been kidnapped.”
She clutched his jaw. “You’re our fearless leader and that’s the excuse you went with?”
“It worked. Everyone bought it.” He chuckled. “Chloe, Rachel, and Lina were in tears.”
“Have you even considered the consequences? What if they find out you lied and used scare tactics?”
He shrugged. “If it keeps people safe, I’ll take the heat. Cooper’s capable of anything. I’d rather prepare for the worst than risk it all.”Tristan Reid was right—as night fell, the Reid family’s old estate, the Lewis villa, and the Shaw mansion were all hit with rocket fire.
Flames lit up the sky. If anyone had been home, there’d have been casualties for sure.
At the same time, Tristan commanded a squadron of J-20s to launch a full-scale strike on the coordinates they’d received.
Back at the base, Nathaniel Cooper was tangled up with Nicole Flynn when the explosions started.
A rapid knock broke through the moment. Nathaniel, clearly annoyed, threw on a robe and opened the door. “What’s going on?”
“Boss, all our bases are gone. Bombed to hell.”
His mind went blank—buzzing so loud he nearly stumbled. “What the hell happened?”
“We found a tracking chip under the car—someone planted a magnetic device. We’ve got a mole,” the bodyguard reported grimly, throwing a glance toward the room.
Nathaniel immediately shook his head. “She’s clean. It’s not her. That guy posing as a thief—he had to be a cop.”
“Boss, we need to go. Now.”
Nathaniel shut the door, then turned back to Nicole, still in bed looking dazed. “You didn’t betray me, right?”
Nicole met his eyes and said firmly, “Never.”
“Get dressed. We’re leaving. The base’s blown, this place won’t hold much longer.”
Nicole scrambled to throw on her clothes, a nervous tension hanging over her as she followed close behind.
Mid-stride, Nathaniel paused. “You still with me? After this, I might have... nothing.”
Her eyes went red. “Alive or dead, I belong to you.”
He pressed a kiss hard to her forehead. “I’m old enough to be your father, who’d have thought I’d still hit the jackpot?”
He wrapped an arm around her as they slipped out, climbed into the car.
The driver hit the gas toward the edge of the woods—but suddenly, the trees ahead lit up like daylight.
“Boss, we’re surrounded.”
Nathaniel’s eyes went blood-red. He cursed under his breath. He never imagined someone like him would end up this cornered, this wrecked.
“Everyone in the car, get out! You’re surrounded by law enforcement!”
“We’re not getting out of this,” he muttered.
Nicole grabbed his sleeve. “Use me as a hostage—you can make it. Once you’re out, come back for me.”
Even the driver agreed. “Boss, that might be your only shot.”
With the loudspeaker blaring repeat calls for surrender, Nathaniel finally nodded. “Nicole, I’d never hurt you. Trust me. I’ll come back.”
She threw her arms around him. “Nathaniel, I believe you. I’ll wait.”
That second, Nathaniel felt like he’d give his life to protect her.
The door opened. Nicole stepped out first, hands in the air.
He stayed right behind, gun raised. “Out of my way, or I shoot her!”
The police chief shouted, “Don’t do anything rash! Drop the weapon and we’ll talk!”
Nathaniel fired one shot straight up. The bang ripped through the air.
Nicole’s eardrums rang from the shock.
The chief motioned. “Calm down! Let’s not escalate!”
Gun still aimed, Nathaniel barked, “Clear the path or—”
Before he could finish, a bullet ripped through his arm—his gun clattered to the ground.
Nicole didn’t hesitate. She yanked a spike from her coat pocket and drove it into his shoulder before bolting toward the cops.
Nathaniel froze, wide-eyed—she betrayed him?
Why?
Was it all just an act?
Under the blinding lights, he saw the person stepping forward. “You... you’re alive?”
