Chapter 344: [ Volume 1] Chaper 344- Arrest her?

Katrina’s jaw clenched as she stepped toward Esme, about to grab her arm—but before she could, a shot rang through the air, making everyone freeze.

"Enough!"

Ray’s voice cracked like thunder, and Katrina’s heart skipped a beat. She spun around in shock to see him standing at the top of the stairs, fully alive, his white shirt crisp and brown pants perfectly pressed. He was looking down at her, his expression a cocktail of confusion and fury.

"What the hell are you doing in my house?" Ray demanded, his voice low but seething.

Katrina’s blood ran cold. She had been told he was dead. She had seen his charred remains. How could he be here, standing before her, unscathed?

Ray didn’t wait for her to recover from the shock. He descended the stairs with purpose, his gaze hardening. "How dare you touch my wife?" His tone was pure venom.

Esme, standing beside him, couldn’t resist a smug, almost predatory smile. She watched Katrina closely, the victor in this twisted game. Ray’s protective stance only added to her amusement.

Ray reached Esme’s side and, with one final glance at Katrina, asked, "Who are you, and how dare you enter my house?"

Katrina, momentarily paralyzed, stood frozen, staring at him like she was seeing a ghost. It was as if she couldn’t process the reality in front of her. After a moment, she took a shaky breath and spoke, though her voice wavered slightly. "Mr. Ray, I am Officer Katrina. I need you both to come with us to the station."

Esme and Ray exchanged a glance, a look that said everything without words: Are we hearing this correctly?

Both of them spoke at once, their voices dripping with disbelief. "Are you even listening to yourself?"

Ray’s eyes narrowed, the irritation evident in his voice. "What is this nonsense? You want us to go to the police station? For what, exactly? What charges does my wife have?"

Katrina’s fists clenched, her frustration palpable. She could feel herself slipping, losing control of the situation, but she refused to let it show. However, before she could respond, a voice from behind her interrupted.

"Hello, Mr. Ray," said another officer, stepping forward. "We’ve received information that your wife, Esme, is a suspect in an attempted murder case."

Ray burst into laughter, loud and mocking, as if he had heard the most absurd thing. "What? What absolute rubbish are you speaking? Murder? My wife?" His voice rang with disbelief. "Are you out of your mind? She couldn’t even kill a mosquito, and you’re saying she tried to kill me?" His laughter deepened. "Wow! And tell me, officer, where did this brilliant idea come from?"

Esme’s lips curled into a subtle smile as she watched the officers squirm under Ray’s mocking tone.

Ray took a step forward, his voice turning icy, his eyes locked on Katrina. "You’ve got a lot of nerve, coming here and accusing my wife of such nonsense. Do you even hear yourself? What gives you the right to tell us what to do?"

Katrina, clearly rattled, clenched her fists tighter. The situation was spiraling out of her control, and she could feel the walls closing in. Ray, standing tall and unscathed, had completely unraveled everything they had tried to build against Esme. She opened her mouth to retort, but no words came out. The trap was set, and she had walked right into it.

Suddenly, a thick silence settled over the room as all the officers, who had come at Katrina’s behest, turned their attention to her. They exchanged uncertain glances, realizing that they had been led here under false pretenses. It was clear now: Katrina had acted alone in bringing them to Ray’s house. She was the one who claimed to have an arrest warrant, but the officers had been left in the dark about the details of the case.

They stood there, waiting for Katrina to explain, to clarify, but she was too preoccupied with the unfolding drama. Her eyes darted nervously between Ray and the officers, trying to gauge how much trouble she was in. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Then, a sharp voice cut through the tension. "What is this nonsense? What are you all doing here?"

Everyone turned in unison to see a tall woman stride into the room with authority. Her uniform was impeccable, and her demeanor radiated the type of power only held by someone who had earned their position. This was no ordinary officer. She was the head of the district police force, the one who had the authority to command Katrina. The one who had given her that arrest warrant—or so Katrina had claimed.

Katrina’s eyes widened slightly, and a smile flickered across her face. She was relieved, thinking that finally, someone of importance had arrived to back her up. Her posture straightened as she walked toward the officer, ready to explain. She glanced at Esme with a look that said, You’ll see, before stepping forward to speak.

But the woman walked past her without a second glance, ignoring Katrina completely. Instead, she headed straight for Ray, her gaze locking with his. "Hello, Mr. Ray. You called us here?" Her voice was calm, but there was a bite beneath it.

Ray, unfazed, nodded curtly. "Yes, I called you. But what the hell is your team doing here? And why is she—" He motioned to Katrina, who stood frozen, her face now pale with confusion. "—accusing my wife of murder?"

The woman turned sharply to face the officers, her expression now hardening. "What the hell are you all doing here?" she demanded, her voice rising with authority.

The officers, unsure how to respond, looked at one another. Katrina’s grip on the situation had faltered, and it was evident that they were starting to question everything she had told them. The weight of the woman’s glare intensified, and their silence only made it worse.

Katrina, stunned, tried to steady herself, but the words came out more as a question than a statement. "You’re the one who gave us the order to arrest her, aren’t you?"
