Chapter 346: [ Volume 1] Chaper 346- Who do you think you are?

"Enough!"

The head officer’s voice sliced through the tension like a blade. Katrina froze, the color draining from her face as the superior stepped forward, her presence towering despite her measured calm.

"Miss Kyra," the head officer began, her voice steady, sharp. She glanced at Kyra’s badge, her gaze never wavering. "You’ve been working under Katrina for four years, correct?"

Kyra nodded quickly. "Y-yes, ma’am."

"Then answer this." The head officer’s voice dropped, each word laced with purpose. "Did Mr. Jay ever file a report against Ms. Esme?"

Kyra hesitated, the fear in her eyes palpable. She opened her mouth to speak but faltered, her lips trembling. Finally, she shook her head, her words trembling as much as her hands. "No, ma’am. This is the first time I’ve ever heard about it."

The silence that followed was unbearable. A pin dropping would have sounded like an explosion. Every officer’s gaze shifted back to Katrina, their expressions a mix of confusion, doubt, and something that looked like betrayal.

Katrina’s composure shattered entirely, her face a mask of barely concealed panic. And for the first time, the untouchable Katrina looked... cornered.

The room was suffocating with tension, each person standing on the precipice of chaos, and it all started with Kiara’s words. The head officer’s eyes were sharp, probing, and she turned to Kiara. "So, this is your first time in this house?"

Kiara’s gaze flicked to Katrina before she answered. "Yes, ma’am. First time. But," she added with a slight grin, "I wouldn’t say the same about Officer Katrina."

The head officer’s eyes narrowed, and she shifted her gaze to Katrina. Katrina’s face twisted into a scowl, clearly uncomfortable with the insinuation. "What’s that supposed to mean?" she snapped. "What are you implying, Kiara?"

Before Kiara could respond, the head officer raised her hand, silencing the room. "Enough!" she commanded, her voice cutting through the air like a whip. She turned toward Katrina, disappointment etched in her features. "Officer Katrina, I’m ashamed of you. You’ve disrupted a peaceful home with wild accusations, trying to arrest a innocent woman without cause. Do you understand how dangerous and reckless that is?"

Katrina’s jaw tightened, but she wasn’t backing down. "Ma’am, I have evidence," she retorted, pointing toward the servants standing by the wall. "Ask them! There was a body found here—don’t you remember?"

The servants looked at each other, confused and startled by her outburst. One of them, a man with a cautious look in his eyes, stepped forward. "Ma’am, I think you might be mistaken. We can call a doctor if you’re feeling unwell," he said gently, trying to defuse the tension.

Katrina’s eyes were blazing. "Are you calling me crazy?" she shouted, her voice trembling with fury. "You’re all covering for them, aren’t you?"

But before anyone could respond, Esme, who had been sitting quietly on the couch, finally spoke, her tone casual but sharp. "Oh, please," she said, her lips curling into a wicked smile. "The hospital? You really think you can use that as evidence?"

Katrina faltered, her face pale. "What are you talking about?" she stammered, struggling to keep her composure.

Esme’s gaze was icy, her voice laced with sarcasm. "Tell me, Katrina, does your mother still run that ’renowned’ hospital of yours? How convenient, don’t you think?"

The air in the room thickened as everyone turned their attention to Katrina, whose breath hitched in her throat. The mention of her mother, the one who controlled the hospital where the alleged post-mortem was conducted, made her feel suddenly small, exposed. But she wasn’t going to admit defeat. Not now. Not in front of these people.

Esme’s smile widened, her eyes glittering with malice. "You’ve clearly forgotten who you’re dealing with. You’re in my house now, Katrina." Her voice dropped, becoming dangerously cold. "And if you think you can walk in here, make baseless accusations, and raise your voice at me, you’re sorely mistaken."

Katrina flinched. Esme’s power was palpable, a magnetic force that seemed to pull the very air from her lungs.

"Do you even understand where you are?" Esme continued, her voice soft yet biting. "This is my house. You’re not some high-ranking officer coming here to make trouble. If I weren’t who I am, you might have arrested an innocent person, locked them up without a second thought." Her voice dropped to a whisper, and the room felt even colder. "But because I am who I am, you’re standing here looking like a fool."

Katrina’s hands clenched into fists at her sides, her teeth grinding as her anger swelled again, but Esme wasn’t done.

The tension in the room was unbearable as Esme’s voice turned chillingly sweet. "My husband doesn’t like loud voices," she said, her eyes glowing faintly with golden light. "And you, Katrina, are being too loud for my liking."

Suddenly, the room seemed to constrict around Katrina. She gasped as an invisible weight slammed down on her chest, forcing her to her knees. The air was thick with pressure, and she couldn’t breathe. Her hands trembled as she fought to regain control, but her body wouldn’t obey. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Esme, please," the head officer pleaded, stepping forward, his voice desperate. "This isn’t the way to handle things. We need to settle this calmly."

Esme’s eyes flicked to the officer, her expression a mixture of amusement and cold calculation. "Oh, I’m sorry," she said, her voice dripping with mock sweetness. "But you’re forgetting something. This is my house. You’ve barged in here, tried to accuse my family, and now you’re telling me how to act in my own home? Please. Don’t lecture me."

The officer recoiled, looking between Esme and the others, uncertain of how to proceed. He was clearly out of his depth.

Esme’s eyes narrowed, her voice turning into a low growl. "And if you think for a second that I’m going to sit back and let you ruin everything we’ve worked for, you’re gravely mistaken. You’re lucky I don’t take further action for your disrespect."
