The Heiress's Comeback-Chapter 356: [ Volume 1] Chaper - Due date....
He signed his full name, the ink gliding smoothly across the page, sealing his fate.
Esme’s smile flickered, a quiet victory passing through her expression, but before she could speak, something seemed to shift in her mind. She pinched her nose, her eyes darting around the room, her lips pulling into an almost guilty expression.
"Oh, yeah, I forgot," she said casually, though there was a subtle hesitation in her voice that immediately caught Aaron’s attention.
A flash of realization hit him like a slap. His jaw tightened, and a familiar anger flared in his chest. Now he remembered. The reason he had agreed to all of this wasn’t just for the promise of taking down his enemies—it was because of the damn promise Esme had made. She said if he did this, she would help him get Helga and their child back.
The anger boiled up, and Aaron stood abruptly, the chair scraping loudly against the floor. His pale fingers cracked, the sound like thunder in the quiet room. His voice was cold, each word biting with restrained fury.
"Okay, then. Where is my wife and child, huh, boss?" His gaze never wavered from Esme.
Esme froze for a moment, her eyes wide with a flicker of panic, the sweat beginning to bead on her forehead. She turned towards the window, her gaze shifting downward as though seeking some kind of escape. Her breath caught in her throat.
"Yeah, it’s not too high," she muttered under her breath, almost to herself. "Only fifty-two floors..." She took a deep breath, but the words barely registered. Her hands trembled as she turned back to face him, her expression shifting from one of calculation to something more vulnerable.
Gulp
"Ahhhh..."
.
.
.
Helga stepped off the plane with a glow that could blind an entire village and a tan that screamed, "I just spent a month somewhere fabulous while you all suffered!" Beside her was a child equally radiant, both looking like they had been plugged into a charger overnight. Esme, however, was still nursing the emotional wounds of being choked by Aaron not too long ago. Yet, when she spotted Helga, she smiled brightly, rushing forward with open arms.
"Helg—"
Before Esme could finish her greeting, Aaron appeared out of nowhere like a storm cloud with legs. With one swift motion, he shoved Esme aside, who stumbled into a luggage cart, much to the dismay of the attendant. Aaron grabbed Helga by her hair like a caveman and began dragging her toward the exit.
The airport froze. Families paused their reunions, travelers stopped mid-scroll on their phones, and even the guy announcing flight delays over the intercom went silent. A mer dragging a woman by her hair? That was not on the arrival schedule.
The most bizarre part? Helga didn’t resist. If anything, she looked delighted, a smile playing on her lips as if this were some twisted romantic gesture. Esme, now sitting on the floor rubbing her bruised dignity, stared at Helga in pure disgust.
Helga smirked back, her eyes gleaming with the kind of mischief that said, "You wouldn’t get it, darling." And with that, Aaron yanked her out of the airport, leaving behind a trail of gasps and dropped jaws.
Two Days Later
Helga finally emerged from their room after what could only be described as two days of intense "discussions." She stretched like a cat in the sun, looking completely unbothered. Aaron, of course, had forgiven her, not because he was wrong, but because he had hacked into every database on the planet to verify that Helga had done nothing even remotely suspicious.
"I mean, who spends that much on ice cream?" he muttered, shaking his head. But deep down, he was relieved.
One Month Later
Ray’s due date arrived, and the hospital was chaos. Esme paced back and forth outside the ICU like a caffeinated hamster, her face a mix of worry and exhaustion. Ryan, a qualified doctor but not in obstetrics, stood nearby, looking equally useless because of protocol. Jay and Kay sat on a bench, alternating between yawns and annoyed glances at Esme.
Aaron, already on edge, watched Esme pace until he could take no more. He stormed up to her and delivered a resounding slap to the back of her head.
"You fool!" he snapped. "What are you doing? Only you are scared? Sit down before I drag you home by your hair too!"
Clutching the spot where Aaron had smacked her, she glared at him with the intensity of a thousand suns.
"You—what the hell do you know, you fool?" she snapped, her voice brimming with righteous indignation.
Aaron’s brow twitched, his inner calm teetering on the edge. "What did you just say?" His tone was dangerously soft, the kind of quiet that precedes chaos.
Esme, clearly feeling invincible in her emotional hurricane, doubled down. "I said, what do you even know?"
Aaron’s hand shot out like a viper, grabbing her by the collar. "Oh, I’ll tell you what I know!" He gestured dramatically toward Helga, who stood calmly with a glowing child in her arms like a divine statue. "You see that child? I gave birth to it. Eight pounds. Natural. No epidural. You think you’re tough? Try squeezing an eight-pound watermelon out and then talk to me! Now shut your mouth before I personally escort you to the morgue!"
Esme’s jaw flapped uselessly for a moment before she snapped it shut. Her glare shifted to her husband, hoping for some solidarity. But her husbands exchanged looks of mutual agreement, their eyes saying, For once, Aaron isn’t wrong.
One even muttered under his breath, "She’s lucky it wasn’t us who snapped. This pacing is murder."
Esme, feeling more betrayed than a reality show contestant, swallowed her tears. "What kind of husbands are you? Can’t even support me in my hour of need!"
---
Finally, the operation room’s doors creaked open, and a doctor stepped out. Before he could take a breath, the group descended on him like wolves on fresh meat.
