Chapter 400: [ Volume 1] Chaper 399- Remarried.

Her fingers flexed at her sides, the tension in her body barely contained.

"And now, I’m irritated."

She tilted her head slightly, watching the woman in front of her with cold amusement. "So, let’s make this simple. Either I destroy you and your entire organization today, or I destroy them. It’s your choice—who do you want to watch burn first?"

The woman’s lips curled into a smirk, though there was something hesitant in her eyes.

"What, don’t you have a family too?" she asked, her voice carrying a thinly veiled attempt at reason. "Do you really want to throw your life away so easily?"

At that, Esme let out a low, sharp laugh. She reached up, her fingers hooking onto the mask she had worn for too long, and slowly pulled it away, revealing her face fully.

She stepped closer, voice dropping to a near whisper. "Listen carefully. Even if I die today, it doesn’t matter. My husband already prepared for my death."

The woman frowned slightly, but Esme simply chuckled. "It might be hard for them at first, but not that much. Have you ever heard this saying?

"If you lose something and find it again, it becomes too precious to let go." She leaned in just enough for her presence to feel suffocating. "But if you lose something and only find it after too long—long enough for its value to fade—then does it even matter if it’s lost again?"

The weight of her words settled between them like a storm waiting to break.

Esme straightened, cracking her neck slightly before giving a slow, dangerous smile. "Now, let’s stop wasting time. Who’s going down first?"

The woman’s eyes flickered between her husband and son, a momentary widening of her gaze betraying her surprise. Then, her lips curled into a knowing smirk as she spoke, her voice laced with amusement.

"Are you sure you want your children to be motherless?"

Esme sighed dramatically, rubbing her forehead as if exhausted by the conversation. "Seriously?" she muttered. Then, with a slight tilt of her head, she continued, "I have four husbands. All of them—beautiful, talented, capable. Even if I die, they can take care of their children just fine. They already have for years, so what’s a few more?" She shrugged, her tone light but edged with something sharp. "And besides, if the children end up motherless, they can just remarry."

The woman narrowed her eyes, studying Esme’s expression.

"So, you’re not worried if they remarry?" she asked, testing her.

Esme let out a short laugh, shaking her head. "Worried? No. But let’s get one thing straight—I’m not the jealous type, you see. If they remarry... well, they’re dead."

She said it so casually, like discussing the weather. Then, with an amused smile, she added, "But honestly, that would only happen if they somehow managed to find someone better than me." She leaned forward slightly, her voice dropping into a low, confident murmur. "And that? That’s just not possible."

She twirled a strand of her hair between her fingers before glancing up with a smirk. "You know, there’s an old saying—once you’ve tasted the finest, you can’t go back to the ordinary. And let’s be real, in this entire world, there’s only one of me. God doesn’t make duplicates."

She stretched lazily, letting the words settle in the air. "So, who cares? I’d be dead anyway. What they do after that? Not my problem. But if they do find someone else... well," she flashed a slow, dangerous smile, "I hope she’s ready to join me in the afterlife."

The woman had just parted her lips to speak when a voice cut through the air like a blade.

"Oh? We didn’t know you were so open-minded, Esme."

Esme’s entire body went rigid. The casual smirk she had been wearing vanished as if it had never been there. Her breath hitched. She knew that voice.

Slowly, she turned, dreading what she would see.

And there they were—Kai and Ray, standing side by side, arms crossed, bright smiles plastered on their faces. But Esme knew those smiles too well. They weren’t just smiling. They were grinning—a dangerous, knowing kind of grin that sent a shiver down her spine.

She instinctively took a step back, her voice dropping to a whisper.

"Babe... what are you guys doing here?"

Kai’s smile didn’t waver. If anything, it deepened. "Oh, let’s talk about that later," he said, waving a dismissive hand before his expression turned deceptively pleasant. "What did you just say? That you wouldn’t mind if we remarried?"

Esme stiffened. Shit.

"No, I didn’t mean it like that—" she started, but before she could finish, Ray cut her off.

"Oh?" His tone was lazy, but his eyes glinted with something sharp. "Then why didn’t you tell us sooner, huh? We’ve been waiting all these years like fools. If we had known, we would’ve been married by now."

Esme felt her stomach drop. Her palms went clammy.

This was bad. Very, very bad.

Esme hurriedly raised her hands in surrender, her voice rushing out in desperation.

"No, no! I was just saying that to scare her! I didn’t mean it!"

Kai and Ray exchanged a look—one of those silent conversations that only people who had spent years together could have. Then, in unison, they turned back to her, their grins widening.

"Ohhh, so now you’re scaring people with our future, huh?" Kai mused, tilting his head.

"Interesting," Ray added, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Well, since you’ve already put your heart out there, it’s fine. We’re not angry."

Esme blinked. Not angry?

Oh, she knew better.

She really wanted to point out that, no, they were absolutely, 100% angry. But at that moment, if she so much as breathed the wrong way, she had no idea what terrifying fate awaited her.

So, wisely, she kept her mouth shut.

Esme felt a chill run down her spine. Her body tensed, a thin layer of sweat forming on her skin. Oh no... she thought. She hadn’t seen this level of anger from them in a long time.
