The Heiress's Comeback-Chapter 65: [Volume 1] - - i made a mistake.
Diana was already fuming when she heard Ray’s dismissive remarks. She wanted to shout at him, a reaction that would have been uncharacteristic given her usually restrained demeanor. This was the first time anyone dared to confront her like that, except for Esme. Even her father had never spoken to her in such a manner. But Diana knew that if she let her anger take over, it would ruin everything. So, she took a deep breath, forced a smile, and tried to diffuse the situation.
"Mr. Ray, please listen to us. We’ve been misled by the waiters. Please," she said, her voice strained.
Ray, with a mocking grin, replied, "Oh? So the esteemed hires of the Valhalla group were misled by a mere waiter? I don’t even know what to say."
Diana clenched her fists so tightly that her fingernails dug into her palms. With a tight smile, she responded, "Please calm down. We’ll make it right."
Ray, clearly frustrated, took a deep breath and waved them off, signaling that they should leave. The group, sensing that staying any longer would be futile, began to disperse. As they exited, Ray’s gaze followed them with a mix of disdain and exhaustion. Diana glanced around the room one last time but found nothing out of place.
Once outside, Esme quickly shut the door behind them and slumped against it, exhaling heavily. The earlier tension seemed to dissipate, leaving them with a sense of relief. Both Esme and Ray, who had been sweating and anxious, took a moment to regain their composure.
As Esme took a deep breath of relief, she suddenly removed her coat, revealing a white shirt stained with blood. Her shoulders were bleeding profusely, and the sight was jarring. Just moments before, Esme, who had been regaining her composure while carrying Ray, felt a sudden and intense pain.
Ray, hidden within her embrace, had pulled out a paper knife from his coat pocket. Though it was designed for cutting paper, it had been sharpened for a more sinister purpose. He drove it into Esme’s shoulder, causing blood to flow freely and eliciting a pained groan from her.
The sharp pain jolted Esme out of her floral-scented control, her eyes quickly reverting to their normal color. She looked at Ray, who now seemed a mix of fear and guilt, still holding the knife. The sight of him with the weapon and her own bleeding wounds was a stark reminder of their dire situation.
Esme, her head throbbing with pain and her shoulders bleeding, took a moment to gather her bearings. As she looked around, her gaze fell on the waiter, who lay in a half-dead state. She recalled the events that had transpired and noticed Ray, who had visible choking marks on his neck.
"Are you okay?" Esme asked, her voice wavering. She wasn’t sure what else to say.
Ray, appearing equally drained, rubbed his neck and responded with a weary tone, "Shut up. We need to clean this room as quickly as possible."
Understanding the urgency, Esme’s focus shifted. She realized that her sister and some guests might arrive any moment to see the aftermath of the incident.
Quickly, Esme and Ray sprang into action. They pushed the waiter’s body into a cupboard, wrapped it up, and bound his hands. They stuffed a cotton wad into his mouth to muffle any noise before concealing him completely within the cupboard.
Next, they turned their attention to the broken window. Realizing they didn’t have time to replace it properly, Esme swiftly cleaned up the shards of glass and placed them inside the bed, hiding them rather than discarding them.
Just as they finished their frantic cleanup, the sound of approaching footsteps grew louder. Esme hurriedly pulled the curtains. Ray, with a quick glance at Esme, jumped onto the bed and pulled her down beside him, causing it to look like they were kissing. As soon as they finished, the door burst open.
.....
Back to present...
"Thank God," Esme muttered, her voice trembling with relief. Ray, already exhausted, felt a wave of dizziness and began to slump towards the floor. Esme rushed to his side, catching him just before his head could hit the ground. She gently lowered him to the bed, her concern deepening as she tapped his face, calling out, "Ray, Ray," but he didn’t respond.
Her anxiety grew. She knew she couldn’t leave the room in this state; Diana would certainly return soon. Desperate for a solution, Esme’s thoughts raced until two figures suddenly appeared on the window balcony. Esme, though apprehensive, recognized the familiar footsteps.
As the curtains were pulled back, Jay and Kay Sky entered. They were still in their suits, with Jay wearing his laboratory coat, indicating they had rushed over from work.
"Hello, guys," Esme greeted, her voice quivering from exhaustion. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Jay, carrying a first aid kit, greeted her with a smile. However, as he approached, he detected a foul odor. Without hesitation, he slapped Esme across the face, the sharp smack echoing in the otherwise silent room. Esme’s cheek turned red from the sting.
Kay, meanwhile, scanned the room and demanded, "Where the hell is that bastard?"
With a red cheek, Esme pointed towards the wardrobe. Kay’s expression turned to one of grim satisfaction as he nodded in understanding.
He walked over to the cupboard and yanked it open. The mer, now somewhat aware and struggling to free himself, was met with Kay’s merciless grip. Kay yanked the mer by his hair, dragging him out onto the floor. With a disdainful glare, Kay forced the mer to sit in front of the sofa. The hatred in Kay’s eyes was palpable as he prepared to deal with the intruder.
Kay’s expression grew colder as he faced the mer, whose eyes were now wide with fear and anger. The room’s tension was palpable as Kay, gripping the mer’s hair, dragged him to the center of the room. He roughly threw the mer onto the floor in front of the sofa, his anger barely contained.
