The Hidden Extra: The Lazy Prince Refuses to Ascend The Throne-Chapter 606: The Prince’s Obsession and Anger
In an inn room, Nolan carefully laid Seira on the bed.
Once he made sure she was comfortable, he crossed his arms over his chest and asked in a deep voice, "So... what really happened to you, Sister? Why would you go to a place like that?"
Seira was a highly rational woman; she would never risk herself in a dangerous place for women, like a bar. This was the first time Nolan had seen her act so recklessly.
Of course, he was aware of the trouble Seira had gotten into, but he had to pretend otherwise so she would open up to him about her problems.
Seira pursed her lips in dissatisfaction. "It’s because of the arranged marriage my mother set up," she said.
"An arranged marriage?" Nolan feigned surprise. "What happened? Why didn’t I know about it?"
Seira glanced at him, trying to figure out if he really didn’t know or was just pretending. Once she was convinced he was being honest, she relaxed and began telling him everything.
Nolan just listened quietly. A few minutes later, he got the full picture, and his expression grew serious.
"So that’s how it is. I didn’t expect your mother to go this far," Nolan said irritably. "There must be a hidden motive behind her actions."
Seira’s eyes lit up. She nodded eagerly. "I think so too. She wants to use Aldrian’s status to support Adalen in the battle for the throne."
Nolan was silent for a moment, then asked with curiosity, "How powerful is Aldrian, Sister? Could he really be the crown prince of the Ancient Kingdom of Eron?"
"Yes, he is indeed the crown prince of the Ancient Kingdom of Eron. His father has even granted him most of his power. My mother wants to use that to Adalen’s advantage."
The Ancient Kingdom of Eron was a mighty kingdom, one of the great powers of the southern continent.
The word "ancient" was not an exaggeration. Eron had endured for three thousand years—almost as long as the Eastern Empire of Izanagi.
Its territory stretched across the entire southern continent, a lasting testament to its former glory.
Unfortunately, that glory did not endure as long as that of the Eastern Empire of Izanagi.
A thousand years ago, the rise of the Demon Emperor Zerathos reduced the kingdom to ruins.
On top of that, the emergence of the Holy Empire of Valtanir in the central continent added further pressure.
Although based in the central continent, the Holy Empire of Valtanir extended its influence into the southern lands.
Much of the central region was already under the control of the Great Velmora Empire, and to avoid prolonged conflict, Valtanir turned its ambitions southward.
Despite being weakened by Zerathos and the shifting tides of power, the Ancient Kingdom of Eron still survived. They remained formidable and could not be underestimated.
That was why her mother, Clarise, sought to leverage their influence to secure the support of the empire’s nobles.
And if Seira were truly engaged to that man, Adalen would gain outside backing—something she could not allow.
She hated Adalen with a burning intensity and could not bear the thought of him winning the battle for the throne.
"I happened to overhear Father talking to your mother earlier," Nolan said softly, patting her right shoulder. "It seems he’s still unwilling to let you go, so you don’t need to worry."
Seira let out a sigh of relief. Her father was her only stronghold.
If he refused, her mother’s plans would fail. But human hearts were unpredictable.
It was possible that, in the future, her father might yield to her mother’s scheme. When that happened, she would have nothing left to rely on but acceptance.
Noticing her troubled expression, Nolan smiled reassuringly. "Don’t worry too much. Every problem has a solution. How about coming with me?"
"Coming with you? Where?" Seira asked, raising her head and frowning in curiosity.
Nolan grinned. "To meet the Phantom Chain group."
...
"How did the persuasion go? Did Concubine Clarise manage to convince Emperor Ragan to accept my intentions?"
A handsome man fixed his gaze on the old man before him.
The old man bowed cautiously. "No news yet, Your Highness. But it should arrive within a few minutes."
The man didn’t show anger, only a slight nod. Seconds passed before a servant entered, his face grave.
"There is a reply from the Great Velmora Empire," he said respectfully.
The man gave a faint smile and held out his hand. The servant handed him the letter, and he opened it without hesitation.
As he read, the calm mask on his face shattered, replaced by a flash of searing rage.
The old man immediately noticed the change and asked hurriedly, "What happened, Your Highness? Does the letter bring bad news?"
The man remained silent, his breath coming in heavy, uneven gasps.
"Get out," he said coldly.
The old man froze, mouth opening to speak, then quickly shut it.
He knew the prince well. If he was this furious, the news must be disastrous. In times like this, the prince needed to be left alone.
Without a word, the old man bowed and left, the servant following silently.
Once the room was empty, the man looked at the letter in his hand and crumpled it into a ball.
"Damn it!"
He slammed the letter on the floor and stomped on it. His face, already red, flared even hotter with fury.
"Seira Lorian... how dare you reject me?" he growled, his voice thick with anger.
He was Aldrian Lyren—the first prince of the Ancient Kingdom of Eron. To everyone else, he was dignified, talented, and prestigious.
But just now, he had learned that the woman he loved had refused to be engaged to him.
The emperor hadn’t even approved his request, which both offended and enraged him. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
A few minutes later, he managed to calm himself, though not completely.
He walked over to a nightstand and picked up a photo frame.
It held a photo of a boy and a girl, both around five or six years old.
The boy looked shy, while the girl appeared calm and indifferent.
"Seira," he whispered, stroking the girl’s photo with his fingers. "I fell in love with you more than ten years ago. Back then, I promised myself I would marry you. I was weak and cowardly at the time... even my siblings often bullied me."
His gaze carried a terrifying obsession.
"But now it’s different. I am the crown prince, and the throne will be mine. I will fulfill that promise. Whatever obstacles come between us, I will make you mine. This is my oath!"
Boom!
Lightning suddenly flashed, followed by heavy rain outside.
...
"Achoo!" Seira sneezed loudly.
Nolan looked at her curiously. "Are you okay?"
Seira rubbed her nose and shook her head.
"I’m fine. By the way, where are we going?"
Nolan smiled. "It’s a famous tavern on the outskirts of the city—Bull’s Horn."
