The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 346 - 281: Rebellion
"Come in." I was the first to squeeze through the door crack, then gestured for Liang Ruidong to follow.
Liang Ruidong also saw someone inside, wearing the same fake tourist outdoor gear as us. An expression of disbelief flashed across his face, and he then slipped through the door.
I closed the door again and moved the stone coffin back into place. It had been nearly ten days since Chen Qinghan and the others lost contact. The food and water they brought would only last a week.
If we rationed properly, lasting until our arrival wasn’t a problem, but there was a condition — all the food must be preserved without any loss.
While I pushed the stone coffin, Liang Ruidong went to the wall by the people and checked their pulses and pupils.
"No injuries, just dehydration." He took off his backpack and mixed vitamins into the water to feed them.
"Stay here with them while I go out." After blocking the door, I walked to the side of the unconscious people. Chen Qinghan wasn’t among them. I had to go out and search again.
"Going out to find Professor Chen?"
"Yes." As I said this, I took off my backpack and pulled out food and drink, "Unless I call you, don’t make any sound or open the door if there’s any movement outside."
"Do you suspect that the tomb owner is still here?"
"It’s possible."
"Shouldn’t we notify Lilith and the others?"
"As long as they don’t leave the cave entrance, they’ll be fine."
"But once they dig through the tunnel, they’re bound to send someone to update us."
"They won’t finish digging. This tomb... won’t let people out so easily."
"What do you mean by that?"
"It means this tomb is very dangerous."
Hearing this, Liang Ruidong suddenly stood up, anxiously saying, "Explain yourself clearly."
Grabbing my backpack, I felt my social anxiety hadn’t healed. At this moment, I really didn’t want to deal with Liang Ruidong.
"I won’t!" Leaving these two words, I squeezed out through the narrow door crack I had just reserved.
Liang Ruidong fell silent, probably still figuring out how to respond to me.
The last group of missing colleagues took shelter in the lower-level burial chamber, but there were no burial items inside. There should be a specific place to store offerings, a treasury.
With my hands half-raised in front of me, I was ready to face any threat that might come charging out.
This underground chamber was built most meticulously, indicating there was plenty of time during its construction. The upper and middle levels were mostly empty; later, simple partitions were made to create a multi-layered labyrinth.
By rights, the pyramid is a Pharaoh’s tomb. The young man was merely a minor noble from a small place and shouldn’t have enjoyed such an elevated burial standard; to be more precise, it was arrogance.
Perhaps they also realized this, which is why the tomb was built inside the mountain, with the real tomb hidden away.
Anyone daring to do this must have some small cautious ambitions; after all, dreams don’t fear being large. What if they come true?
I exited the burial chamber and found another corridor beside it, stretching indefinitely into the dark.
The walls on both sides of the passage were adorned with exquisite murals, the figures vividly portrayed, understandable even without ancient Nile script.
Many emperors wished for heavenly ascension and transformation after death, but the tomb owner hoped to rule the Netherworld, hence the mediocre decorations higher up, while the lower-level hallways were elegantly beautiful.
This was because it was the road to the Netherworld. Along the passage on both sides stood stone statues, half human-height, male and female, facing forward, queued in a bowing posture.
I suddenly recalled the deep well beneath the cabin; it seemed like there were murals on its walls too, depicting terrifying and hideous figures.
Could it be that this was the tomb owner’s exclusive pathway, while this was the servant’s corridor for his slaves?
After walking about fifty meters, the corridor ended, leading directly to the deep well.
Along the way, I saw no other chambers, so my previous guess was incorrect. The treasure chamber wasn’t in the passage, or... it simply didn’t exist.
I couldn’t think of any reason why Chen Qinghan would leave his team. No, it should be why he and the Sakura goddess would leave together?
Hence, I could only think the worst, like they were both captured by the tomb owner and his wife.
Since the tomb owner’s small goal was to become the king of the Netherworld and also drew on the well walls, does this mean he believed the Netherworld was right below?
I thought for a moment and put on the Gecko Claw again, climbing down the well wall.
The Scorpion Army was nowhere to be found. At this moment, the deep well was silent except for the sound of my climbing.
After crawling for a dozen minutes, I silently lamented. No wonder the tomb owner thought this was the road to the Netherworld; after climbing down for more than ten minutes, black strange flowers began to appear on the well wall. The flowers’ crowns resembled skulls, ink-colored. Without a close look, they looked like human skulls embedded in the well wall.
