The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 56: Is Number 003 a Police Officer?
I really want to know what Eyes of Golden Flame truly is, being so principled and distinctive.
Unfortunately, Chen Qinghan refuses to reveal his thoughts, insisting on waiting for concrete evidence before sharing his suspicions.
Chen Qinghan means well, and after calming down, I have no choice but to accept reality. After all, I’m accustomed to living in ancient tombs, whether they’re mine or someone else’s; having a safe place to stay is better than anything.
"Hmm? If the passage door can’t be opened, Lord Qi’s people will return soon, what should we do then?"
"We can’t let them damage the passage door, that would trigger the tomb’s self-destruct mechanism, and by then, the ancient tomb and the artifacts inside would be lost."
"Oh~ So you’re in such a rush to come in to stop them from destroying the ancient tomb!"
What a dedicated and hardworking young man, and he even dragged me along; I feel like I’m ascending.
"If they have a way to open the passage door, that would be best; as long as they don’t resort to violent destruction, we’ll have time and opportunity to stop them from stealing the artifacts."
"That old guy knows to use blood to guide the way, he must be prepared. I think they can pull it off. By the way, is there an insider in your group? How does he, a tomb robber, know so much about the Heavenly Maiden Tomb?"
"It’s hard to say, the research on the Heavenly Maiden Tomb involves many aspects. Although it’s a confidential project, many people have handled it over a long period, and there have been incidents of research data theft, so information leaks are possible."
"Wow, quite a grand setup, so the excavation work of the Heavenly Maiden Tomb is like a drama series. What’s the treasure in this tomb?"
"Confidential."
"Stingy!"
Chen Qinghan slung the treasure sword on his back and pointed at my clothes, "Aren’t you going to wring out your clothes?"
I shook my arms and legs on the spot; wet clothes don’t affect me much, though they drip while walking. I wrung out the water from the cuffs, pant legs, and hem of my clothes, spread my hands, and said, "Alright."
Chen Qinghan told me to stay close to him, first leading us to the burial chamber. He said there are still traps in the tomb, and stepping on them, though not life-threatening, could be troublesome.
I nodded, walking behind him, holding onto the treasure sword on his back. Fortunately, Lord Qi wasn’t too curious about it. When he was prepared to use us as guides, he didn’t have anyone take it down.
Coming out of the reservoir room, we entered a corridor with small suction cup night lights stuck to the walls.
The equipment of modern tomb robbers is getting ever fresher; they used to use torches and lanterns, but now these small lights are convenient and practical. I reached out to pick a few off, but Chen Qinghan pulled me away.
"These things are cheap, you can find plenty outside."
"Then help me buy a few. By the way, I heard you have friends in the antique trade; I want to sell my treasures, you help me and I’ll give you a commission."
"Okay." Chen Qinghan replied with just a word. Since entering the tomb passage, he had become extremely cautious and spoke less.
He carefully watched the ground, pausing at each step. I followed him, unsure of what he was looking at, but I guessed he was probably recognizing the footprints of Lord Qi’s group.
Yet, as I continued, something didn’t seem right. Sometimes the tiles we stepped on had water stains, sometimes they didn’t.
This intrigued me, so I bent down to closely observe each tile, discovering that they were actually moving slowly.
Because of the extremely slow speed, you couldn’t notice without careful inspection, and they moved without making any sound.
The tiles had various symbols engraved on them, which Chen Qinghan was clearly examining. The secret to the correct path wasn’t in Lord Qi’s footprints but in these symbols.
I admired Chen Qinghan’s mental acuity; he hadn’t been here for a while but remembered the passage secret crystal-clear, especially those symbols, which weren’t Huaxia characters at all.
These ghost talismans had quite complex structures, somewhat resembling the hieroglyphs of the Golden Country, but much more intricate.
Looking at them made me feel a bit dizzy. I blinked hard, and the ground before me undulated like waves; the old tiles suddenly appeared brand new, and a gigantic silver coffin was ’floating’ deeper into the tomb, carried by four people.
Indeed, the four people’s palms merely supported the four corners of the coffin, yet the enormous silver coffin floated steadily in mid-air, moving with them deeper into the tomb.
The coffin seemed metallic, but I couldn’t think of any metal as light as plastic sheets.
The silver coffin’s surface had luxurious streamline patterns, with symbols similar to those on the tiles engraved in the middle.
That was someone’s name. I knew it was a name and tried to pronounce it, panolis... Panolis... police officer?
Just as I pronounced it, it linked to a known foreign language, while a sharp pain snapped me out of my thoughts. I clutched my head and squatted down, biting my lip to stay silent.
Chen Qinghan turned back to hold me, and without a word, carried me on his back. Since the tiles moved, it meant we couldn’t stand on the same tile for too long.
Lying on Chen Qinghan’s back, I clutched my head, not wanting to speak. Honestly, the pain was secondary; the sudden influx of memories and the impact they had on me were greater.
I have memories related to this tomb, and I once watched the burial of the tomb owner’s coffin, indicating I might know the owner of this tomb.
"Still hurt?" Chen Qinghan asked with concern after walking a bit further.
"I might know 003." I found that not having to walk felt quite good, so I avoided the headache issue by changing the subject like Chen Qinghan did.
"Who?"
"003, isn’t this tomb the Heavenly Maiden Tomb No. 003? Let’s just call the owner 003."
"What did you remember?"
"Just a short snippet. I saw her coffin being buried, and a name."
"What name?"
"Do you want the original sound or the translation?"
"Both." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"It’s hard to pronounce in the original, panolis, Panolis, doesn’t it sound like a foreign name?"
"Perhaps she’s a foreigner."
"I look so Eastern; if we’re the same race, we should be Asian. Where did such a Westernized name come from?"
"It’s best not to jump to conclusions about your ethnicity."
"Hmm..." Hearing Chen Qinghan’s words, I paused and carefully recalled the scene I just saw. Though I could only see the back of the coffin bearers’ heads, at the coffin’s tail, one had golden curls and another brown, very un-Eastern.
I stopped looking at the ground, keeping my gaze straight ahead to avoid falling into unknown memories again.
The sensation of needles pricking my brain was unpleasant, requiring a good while to recover from one jab.
"What’s that?" Keeping my eyes forward, I noticed something unusual ahead before Chen Qinghan, who walked with his head down. I pointed at something in front and asked.
Chen Qinghan glanced up quickly, then looked back down at the path, "It’s an underwater thruster."
"Lord Qi’s stuff, why leave it there?" I wondered.
"Probably...someone fell down."
"Look, there’s a backpack too!"
"Don’t move, I’ll get it." Chen Qinghan sounded as exasperated as could be. He ’circled around’ to the backpack, picked it up, and handed it to me.
The long corridor finally came to an end, and Chen Qinghan didn’t step on a wrong brick; he’s truly got a professor’s brain.
