In an area nearby, covered with thick bushes—a trap door was silently pushed open.

A pair of normal brown eyes peeked from within, making sure that there was nobody around before a hand poked out and freed a gleaming brown butterfly that flapped its wings away. Looking through the butterfly's eyes, the person confirmed that the coast was clear before coming out.

Emerging from the trap door was a woman in a deep green cloak that blended with the foliage.

Underneath the hood was a pair of small deer-like horns and she had a mark underneath her right eye shaped like an ivy leaf, clearly indicating—that she came from the Verdant Ivy Village. Once she was fully out, she remained squatted and closed the trap door silently.

Once the door was closed, she moved through the underbrush silently.

Every step was deliberate, yet the treacherous branches and brittle leaves conspired against her.

Despite her best efforts, she couldn't avoid making all kinds of sounds.

Snap!

A twig snapped beneath her foot, and she clenched her aw—pausing mid-step.

I'm screwed if they found me,' She pondered inside—sweating profusely in concern.

Her pulse quickened as she scanned the area from the butterfly's vision once again.

Nothing—at least, not yet.

She exhaled slowly, shifting her weight to softer earth, cursing the forest for its betrayal in her mind.

'Our points are being left behind. At this point, the village's quota would be reduced once again and the village would be nearing its doom,' Considering the circumstances, the woman was stressed. 'I got very lucky to get that carcass—with it, the village would at least get 2 more quotas but the Onyx Lotus Village realized it. I need to hunt again in case something went wrong'

Glancing around, she sighed lightly, "I can't let the village get disbanded before I get chosen,"

"And how do you plan on doing that?" A voice rang suddenly.

Upon hearing this, the woman's face stiffened as she instantly rolled forward and drew her knife.

Somehow, a man managed to sneak behind her.

Unlike her who seemed to be walking on eggshells, the man—who was covered in thick leather armor with spiky black hair was the opposite. He was relaxed as if the entire forest was his to begin with. As she settled her gaze on the man, she instantly recognized him.

Rakha from the Onyx Lotus Village, one of the strongest individuals in Nature's Shield Forest.

It was surprising that someone as formidable as him hadn't gotten a quota.

"What're you doing, miss?" Rakha asked with his tongue out. "Sneaking around is not polite you know"

"How long will your village going to keep doing this to us? How greedy can you be?" the woman barked in retaliation, spinning the knife in her hand into a reverse grip as she raised her guard. "We barely have any quotas left, leave us be!"

"Oh… I can't do that," Rakha shook his head. "Not until you tell me where it is"

Just then, with a small gesture from his hand—two more figures appeared and restrained the woman.

One knocked the knife off the woman's hand and restrained one arm while the other punched the woman right in the face and grabbed her other arm. She was now held in place, her ether flow was infiltrated, making it harder for her to use her Soul Artifact.

Despite her situation, the look of defiance never left her expression as she spat blood to the ground.

"I'll scream if you come near me," the woman threatened coldly.

But this only made Rakha burst in laughter, "Do you think we're not prepared for that?" He then turned to the surroundings—as if he was showing off the forest. "In case you forgot, our village has someone with a powerful support-type Soul Artifact. She's capable enough to defuse your scream"

"Nobody will come and help you," He continued with a nasty grin.

Upon hearing this, the woman frowned.

She needs to escape or else she will be used against her own village.

Rakha, emboldened by her silence, stepped closer with deliberate steps, "Don't make it more difficult than it already was, you gain nothing from doing something like this. Now, tell me… Where is that carcass? Where is that special Voidal Knight's carcass?"

Stopping right in front of the woman, towering over her—Rakha looked down to stare into her eyes.

He stared directly into her soul in an attempt to scare her.

It didn't work.

Instead of being scared, the woman's lips curled into a smirk.

Bam!

Instead of answering with words, the woman answered with a headbutt that landed squarely on Rakha's nose—breaking it instantly. Using that window of opportunity, the deep green cloak she was wearing turned into deep crimson and burned with flames.

Feeling the scorching heat, Rakha's two lackeys who were holding her let go and leaped away.

But the woman wasted no time to leap at one while her cloak shot to the other.

Expertly, she struck the lackey right on her stomach with a spinning kick—sending her flying away.

"Raarggh!"

On the other hand, the cloak forcefully made the other lackey wear it before blazing even hotter.

It scorched the other lackey relentlessly, causing her to let out a painful wail.

"I need to get out of here," the woman muttered, intending to dash away but was surprised when the area around her was covered in shadow. Snapping her head up—her eyes widened when she saw a hand, inches away from grabbing her.

Bam!!

Viciously, the hand grabbed her face and slammed her into the ground.

Pressed under the unyielding and massive strength, the woman gargled in her own blood.

She could feel her body broken by that one slam.

Additionally, she also could feel her skull was being crushed bit by bit.

"Damn you, bitch!" Rakha growled with fury as a jagged pair of black-bronze bracers with glowing red veins appeared around his arms, ridiculously amplifying his strength. "Do you think you can beat me?! Did you forget how our last encounter ended?!"

"As far as I remembered, your nose wasn't crooked on our last encounter," the woman shot back.

Even under such immense pressure, she was still defiant.

"Fine. If that's how you're going to be," Rakha sneered, the blood drizzling down from his broken nose made his widening grin even more menacing as he pressed down harder, forcing the woman's head—way deeper into the earth.

As the pressure mounted, his intent became clearer.

Unexpectedly, he was aiming to crush her skull like a ripe watermelon.

Between the villages, they couldn't blatantly kill each other without, or at least they have to be modest.

Nobody wanted a bloodbath but killing is sometimes allowed, that's as long as it's not done in front of the guards or other witnesses. Even then, there's still a possibility of being punished so the fact Rakha was set on killing her was troubling.

"I'll just end your right here," He whispered chillingly. "the guards won't spare a glance at your corpse"

"Grrggh!" the woman's eyes turned bloodlust as she could feel her head being crushed.

In retaliation, she called her fiery cloak to wrap around Rakha's neck.

But his braces, pulsing with raw life energy, gave him the strength to seize the cloak with unrelenting force. With a savage bite, he tore through the fabric like a beast unchained, shredding it to ribbons. The moment her Soul Artifact was destroyed, a violent backlash surged through her, and blood welled at the corner of her lips.

Under Rakha's pressure, she couldn't even cast her Spirit Genesis.

"Hahah~!" He laughed, taking delight in her futile retaliation. "You're going to die he-"

Bak!

Rakha stopped mid-sentence and slumped to the ground like a strengthless doll.

Seeing this, the woman quickly crawled away—holding onto her head as the world spun around her.

Even though Rakha stopped at the last second, her skull cracked a little, sending another world of pain and dizziness to her, causing her to be unable to keep her head up.

Seeing this with wide eyes, the woman wasted no time to scramble backward—her fingers clawing at the dirt as she clutched her head, a ragged gasp escaping her lips. Despite managing to escape death, the world tilted violently around her.

Shadows and light blurring together in a nauseating whirl.

Even though Rakha had stopped his crushing grip at the last second, the damage was done.

Her skull throbbed with a deep, splintering ache—a hairline crack sending agony through her nerves.

A sharp ringing filled her ears, drowning out all other sounds.

No matter how hard she fought to lift her head and recover, the weight of the pain forced her down.

It was only then she felt someone embraced her body tightly, preventing her from flailing further.

"Calm down," A deep, baritone voice seeped into her ears like an assuring note. "You're okay"

Despite not knowing who this voice belonged to, she could tell that he came with good intentions and her body naturally relaxed. Soon, the man forced her to drink something. It was a healing elixir and it worked incredibly fast.

In mere seconds, the blur in her vision cleared.

She blinked her eyes a couple of times and saw a Demon Spirit, the person who saved her.

Naturally, this 'Demon Spirit' was Rex.

"Who are you…?" the woman pushed Rex away and leaned against a tree. "I've never seen you around"

"I'm someone who was passing by," Rex put on a harmless smile and answered—he saw the woman in trouble from above and decided to help her. He wanted to intervene earlier but the woman didn't seem to need any help until she was pinned down. "I'm a friend of the Blue Gem Village"

"Blue Gem Village?" the woman raised an eyebrow. "Do you think I'm stupid?"

"Huh?" Rex was taken aback by her response.

He thought that using the Blue Gem Village's name would lower the woman's guard and help her trust him but it doesn't seem to be the case. Casting a glance at the unconscious Rakha, she continued, "All of the Blue Gem Village's people are pacifists so you're clearly not from there. I'll ask you once again, who are you?"

"Your savior and now I want something in return," Rex stood up and turned around.

Noticing the other groups closing in from the commotion, he seized the woman by her nape and sprang onto the nearest tree. Both landed soundlessly on a thick branch just as the groups arrived below. On the side, the woman inhaled deeply.

Her breath hitched as she instantly realized Rex wasn't someone normal.

In addition to knocking Rakha as easily as he did, his steps also made no sound whatsoever.

Even though the woman was desperately trying to not make any noise earlier, which ended up as an ultimate failure—Rex did it effortlessly. It was almost as if he was one with the wind. The woman now understood how he was able to sneak onto Rakha without being noticed.

Not to mention, the other two women earlier were also knocked out.

During the time the woman was being pinned down, Rex managed to also knock those two out.

"For a reason I can't disclose, I need to have a quota to enter the fortress," Rex continued, still gazing down at the group of people who were surprised to see Rakha unconscious. "I'm not going to demand the spot, I'd lie to exchange for it. So, I want you to take me to your leader,"

Upon hearing this, the woman leaned back and looked at Rex attentively.

She paused for a second, letting his words hang in the air.

"How do I know if you're not an intruder who has bad intentions?" She finally asked.

Rex turned his head towards her before a daunting, knowing smile crept to his face, "If I really have bad intentions for you or your village, then you wouldn't see me coming. You're just going to be dead without knowing why"

For a second there, the woman was taken aback.

But then again, knowing that he was incredibly strong—that would've been the case.

"Okay, I'll bring you to the village head," the woman smiled acutely. "To repay you for saving me"
