The Kingmaker System-Chapter 470 - 469. Allies (4)
Chapter 470: 469. Allies (4)
After the talk with Grandfather, we went back inside the ballroom, I still had a task to complete so, I guess I would have to stay till the end of this ball. Regardless, I had met some familiar faces and it was a good evening.
I found Davian already waiting for me, it was weird to have to dance with him while being in my Ocean’s form.
Denril, despite being a religious nation was pretty open-minded which was why there wasn’t a compulsion for heterosexual couples to be the only ones to exist. The culture pretty much integrated all the types of people and I found it pretty thoughtful. The major contribution to this thoughtfulness was because of the teachings of Saintess Miella and the Dragons. The teachings said to accept any and all kinds of people with open arms.
Needless to say, this idea was also taken up by the other aspects like the idea of homosexual marriages and even the dances in the balls.
Davian reached his hand out to me and I placed my hand in his, though our hands were of similar sized but his seemed rather bigger, filled with the scars and slightly rough and calloused, but warm regardless. I placed my other hand over his broad shoulders feeling his body heat seep into mine as we stood closer.
It wasn’t decided but he automatically stepped into the role to lead and I danced along. Davian seemed pretty well versed with the steps as he handled me like he would any lady, gently and carefully.
"Where’s Sol?" I asked and Davian smiled.
"I handed him over to Young Duke."
I cocked my brow at him, "Why him?"
"I wanted to start a talk with him, he seems to dislike me so, I thought I could use Sol as a way to talk." He shrugged and I narrowed my eyes.
"Don’t use a child for your ulterior motives." I chided and he sighed.
"Well, what else could I do? I don’t have any other way to start talking to them, we aren’t that well acquainted, and Young Duke is rather closer to Prince Eric so, it always feels like he is harboring some negative thoughts about me."
It’s true that Ruke didn’t like you but that isn’t because of Eric.
I decided to change the subject as we waltz along with the other couples but still, I could feel the eyes on us.
"I thought you said you didn’t want to dance with anyone but the lady you love." I spoke and he chuckled.
"I’m not dancing with any other lady, though." He pointed out and I laughed.
"So, men are a fair deal?"
Davian smiled, "Only you are a fair deal, I guess."
"My, oh, my, I never thought I’d be a love rival for Reina." I teased and he chuckled.
"You’re not, if anything, I’d rather ask you to be the cupid for us." He said and I cocked my brow.
"A cupid?"
"You are already helping me so, please see it to the end, hm? You’re going to be my best man at the wedding anyway." He said so casually that I lost my footing and stepped right on his foot.
We both paused for a moment before we resumed dancing.
"No worries, Master I understand if you are growing too old to keep up with me." He teased and I narrowed my eyes at him stepping on his foot again, a bit harder this time.
He flinched and I smiled, "Oh, my! I’m sorry, I guess I really am too old to keep up with the young blood."
Davian put on a smile as we continued dancing and he tilted his head slightly his eyes drifting away. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm
"What’s wrong?" I asked.
"I feel like someone’s watching me," he said and I was tempted to correct him that it wasn’t exactly watching but full on glaring.
The two men of my family were glaring at Davian from their spots. If looks could kill, Davian would be a pile of ashes in my arms right now.
Regardless, I let it be and the last dance of the ball came to an end. I walked over to Rune to get Sol, he was holding Sol’s hand and I could see the crumbs of sweets on Sol’s cravat while his face was clean.
"Thank you for taking care of him, Young Duke." I said with a smile and he looked at me.
"It’s fine," he said and I scooped Sol up in my arms as he seemed like he would doze off any moment.
Sol curled his arms around my neck and placed his cheek over my shoulder while I face Rune and Lady Celestia.
"Congratulations on your great feat, Young Duke." I smiled, "I’m proud of you."
Rune’s eyes widened for a moment before he sighed and gave me a smile, "Thank you,"
"We’ll take your leave for now, good night." I said and then glanced at Lady Celestia.
"Good night, My Lady." I said and she smiled.
"Good night, Your Excellency."
I turned and started walking out, Davian followed along on his way and we made our way back to our rooms.
I changed Sol into some comfy pajamas and he woke up while I was doing that.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"Changing you into your pajamas," I said, "you looked really adorable in your prior clothes but you would need to sleep in something more comfortable."
He hummed still half asleep and I chuckled a bit before I said, "Besides, in taking you out in town tomorrow."
"Town?"
"The festivities are not only at the royal palace, Sol. The entire nation is celebrating the peace so, we’re going to go out in town tomorrow to play." I said and he looked at me with his droopy eyes.
"I don’t want to." He spoke drowsily and I chuckled.
"There would be all kinds of delicious food out there."
He paused for a moment and I could see the string to drool appear at the corner of his mouth.
"I guess it’s fine then." He said and I laughed.
"You love food a lot, huh." I said and he hummed, I pulled the night gown over his head gently to not be harsh.
"Then, I’ll buy you a lots of it." I said and he hummed again as I helped his left hand through the sleeve.
"Did you have fun today?" I asked, "I’m sorry for leaving you alone."
I gently helped his right hand over his right sleeve before adjusting the white night gown over his small body.
"But I promise, I’ll spend my whole day of tomorrow with you and we’ll play and have a lot of fun, all right?" I asked.
He hummed and I gently brushed his soft, blonde hair casting the Healing spell over him. He slumped over in my arms as the sleep took over and I wrapped my arms around him before tucking him on one side of the bed.
I changed into my own pajamas after that and walked over to the bed plopping beside him. I was happy to see Miri and Zale after so long, they had grown stronger on their own even without my help till the end. I was especially proud of Miri who had managed to bring her country up despite the kind of ditch the Tyrant Salem had put it in. Still, it was a good thing that I had lent a hand to Mordino through my merchant guild and my connection in Blackwood guild.
The unread notification was already floating around in the periphery. I looked at it stifling a yawn and it opened.
[Congratulations. You have completed the task successfully.]
[Be Prince Davian Raden Montaire’s chaperone and attend the Peace Treaty Ball at Denril together.
Reward: Undisclosed.]
"What’s the reward?"
[Reward: Random Roulette.]
"What?" I stared at the words which disintegrated before a black box appeared with the neon sign of TAP ME on it.
"Oi, what kind of scammy technique is this?" I asked feeling my eyelids threatening to close.
[Random Roulette is a program which allows the host to choose any reward solely based on luck. The rewards could range from a divine weapon, to a skill or even nothing.]
"Nothing?" I glared weakly.
[Giver of Gifts asks you to try your luck.]
"This... sounds like a damn... gamble game,"
[Goddess of Wisdom reminds that you don’t have to put anything on line.]
"I had to do the work... before getting to this point." I pointed out.
[Defender of Divine Glory asks you to have some trust in your fortune as if it could be a providental moment for you.]
"I don’t understand..." I mumbled but then again, it wasn’t like I was going to lose anything.
I clicked on the box and the sound of the cogs whirring filled my mind before the sound of bell ringing. My eyes were barely open to see the reward and I only saw a few words before my eyelids slid closed.
[Congratulations, you have won... experience... Have fun!]
The next morning, felt rather cold and I slid closer to Sol hoping he wasn’t too cold, I wanted to wrap my arms around him but I couldn’t move my body. I must be really tired, I should try and get some more rest before we go out to play.
But strangely enough, there was a weird scent around me.
Suddenly I heard the doors being thrown open and I heard Miri’s excited voice calling for me.
But I couldn’t respond until I heard a loud gasp.
