The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 54: Joke (2)
Chapter 54: Joke (2)
"You make it sound as if I am being a terrible mother right now. How was I to be ready to hear her poem when I was worried about our son and selection? Nothing is going as we planned," said Tabitha.
"No, it’s not going as you planned. I had no part in the selection other than hearing the day it would start and the women you picked. I need my scholars to look into what causes you to change. You’re no different from my mother with the way she started to act," Jeffrey said as he walked around Tabitha. "Thankfully I know that you will soon go back to normal."
"I am tired of hearing all of you speak of going back to normal. I am feeling stressed, Jeffrey. I share your feelings of wanting to ensure the kingdom has a good ruler after us. Everyone trusts that you have raised Tobias well to become a good king. I have not raised any of these women therefore I need to be tough with my pick," Tabitha said, causing Jeffrey to stop.
"I know that like my mother you want to pick women who will listen to you. I know that is what you are looking for along with a woman like yourself. I am not a fool, Tabitha. You wish to keep your hands on the queen’s seat when we’ve already decided to leave the palace and let the next generation come to us when they want help. You fail to let go," Jeffrey said, being honest with her since no one else would be.
Well, other than Tobias, but Tabitha was so caught up in thinking she was doing what was best for Tobias that she wasn’t listening.
"I know the pressure that is on you. You will face greater judgment should the next queen fail us because it is one of your duties," said Jeffrey.
"It is one of my very few duties. Birth you a son and pick a queen worthy of my seat. It is all I am tasked with as your queen and I will not fail. I must keep careful watch over the next queen and guide her. She will need to be as strong as I was to survive," Tabitha replied, turning away from Jeffrey.
"The next queen will be strong as long as she has your guidance. As of right now, I see the older Wallace girl has her hand closest to your throne-"
"I did as you said and tried to get closer to her. I didn’t anticipate that news about her turning down a dance with Tobias would be shared. I went light on her because it was a small matter and yet, I am still made to be the bad guy here. I don’t know why I come to you when you don’t see my side. I am tired," Tabitha said, covering her face with her hands.
There was so much on her mind these days and her family was making it difficult for her.
Jeffrey sighed, knowing he couldn’t leave her when she was like this, for Sofia to return and find her mother sad. ƒгeewebnovёl.com
"I called her to a room to have a word with her. To get to know her better and it was ruined before I could even speak with her. I thought he would have appreciated that I only sent her to her room. I do not know what to do to have him not angry with me," Tabitha said, feeling a headache coming on just as she felt other nights.
"I believe you," Jeffrey said, embracing his wife. She sounded more believable to him now than when she spoke before. "I will help fix this. You will need to be better at showing that you didn’t send Hazel to her room to spite him. I would hate to think that you did."
"I did not," Tabitha said, resting her head on Jeffrey’s shoulder. She didn’t send Hazel to her room to taunt her son, but she had refused to have visitors hurt him just as she thought he had hurt her. "I need this selection to be over with quickly."
Tabitha started to dislike how it was going. It was nothing like she imagined with her enjoying picking Tobias’s wife with him. The day was to end on a better note. It wasn’t right but she wanted to shift blame to Jasmine who should have told the other women instead of coming to her.
Had the other women made it a bigger issue than it was, then her punishment for Hazel would have been more fitting and Tobias wouldn’t have left the palace.
"I want you to remember that you are the oldest when you are with Tobias and the women. You need to have better judgement. I am not saying that you were wrong in sending her to her room. It seemed like too much to me, but that is your job. I mean that you need to be careful with these women and the things you do concerning our son. Try to start over with him and all the women," Jeffrey proposed.
"I can talk with him and start over, but I can not do the same with the women. Two days have gone by and there are only five days left. What I will do is try to speak to Hazel alone again and not meddle when Tobias picks her again. I am yet to figure out when they became so close," Tabitha said, trying to remember more about the past.
Jeffrey laughed much to Tabitha’s dismay.
"What is the joke now?" Tabitha asked, annoyed by his laughter. She was tired of his laughter when she didn’t see anything funny. She would love for him to switch places with her to see how stressful her position was.
"It is something I want to keep to myself. I need to send word to the Collins estate to have our son come back. If he comes-"
"If? You must have him back here as soon as possible. He cannot spend the night out when. What if someone were to attack him?" Tabitha asked, worried about Tobias’s life
"He is with the Collins and if you are worried about him being safe, instead of calling him back here when it is already dark, we should leave him there and speak to him when he returns. We should use this time to think of how you will fix your relationship with him. Is it possible for you to plan a time for you, Tobias and Hazel to sit together?" Jeffrey asked.
"It wasn’t in the plans. How are you so certain that he likes her? I still think he is going after her because he knew that I liked her sister more," Tabitha said, suspicious of Tobias’s sudden interest in Hazel.
"The only way you will know the truth is by sitting with the two of them. Tobias wasn’t acting this way with the other group of women. We worried that he wouldn’t find someone he could love, but we are seeing that there is a chance. Forget about what you want and help them grow to love each other," said Jeffrey.
"Very well. I will help her, but you must let your son know that my calling upon her from now on doesn’t mean I wish to harm her. I am not cruel to ruin Hazel just to push her sister or any woman into his arms. I need a bottle quickly," Tabitha muttered, interested in having a drink before Sofia returned.
