Chapter 17: Changing A Bit Of The Plot

Adrian sighed as he continued looking at the patriarch.

Boreas did not voice the question immediately, but the doubt in his eyes was clear.

Even Adrian didn’t know why the church would suggest it, but in the manhwa, Boreas had ended up finding a lotus, albeit with less mana concentration than this one and fed it to his wife with his very own hands in hopes to save her.

And right then and there, she froze into an ice sculpture, the last bit of warmth left her body as her life was snuffed out.

The pain was unbearable for the patriarch who then lost his mind, attacked the church only to be apprehended by the combined effort of all the great families and then executed.

Renelle Ardent learnt of this which fueled her rage against the church and she ended up destroying them as the Ice Queen.

It was the author’s attempt at creating a cliché story for the Villainess, so her reason for becoming one didn’t just sum up to her obsession with the prince.

Boreas let out a sigh as he looked at Adrian before asking, "and how do you know all this?"

Well, he hadn’t exactly prepared an answer for that question, after all, he couldn’t just say that this world was from a manhwa he read and he had been reincarnated into it... could he?

So he looked for the next best possible answer.

Lifting his hand slightly, he pointed towards the cat that was blissfully asleep on his head and answered, "my spirit told me."

Boreas followed his finger and realized that he only just noticed the cat that had been on the kid’s head all along.

It was strange, but he didn’t comment, assuming that the spirit had something to down with wind or light mana which worked for stealth.

"I see," the patriarch nodded slowly, his gaze lingering on the sleeping cat for a moment, "then does your spirit also happen to know the cure?"

"Yes," Adrian nodded.

The hope in the patriarch’s eyes immediately reignited as he leaned forward, "and what would that be?"

"An Inferno Wyvern’s core," he answered calmly, "the heat mana will suppress the ice mana allowing the body to regain balance."

How did he know this? Again, it was thanks to the Chapter titled Arti_Facts that the author released.

Boreas frowned, it wasn’t due to the fact that the beast mentioned was an S rank beast, it was due to the fact that those were hardly, if ever, seen in the North.

"And you are sure of this?" He asked, his demeanor becoming completely serious.

"Yes," Adrian answered without a single change in his expression.

Silence returned between the two for a short while before the Patriarch spoke up again.

"...Your spirit," he said slowly, "seems unusually knowledgeable."

«Of course I am,» a voice echoed lazily inside Adrian’s mind.

Adrian resisted the urge to sigh.

The cat stretched slightly, curling its tail around Adrian’s head. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

«I am a being of immense wisdom after all,» it then paused and looked up before asking, «wait, what am I knowledgeable about?»

He ignored its question and focused on the patriarch who was still thinking, of course it’d be hard to believe a kid over the Church, but then again, from his expression, Adrian seemed sure of what he was saying.

Adrian, on the other hand, didn’t reveal this information out of pity or even gratitude, no.

The reason he did so was because they were his Renelle’s family, if the events of the manhwa repeated themselves then she’d definitely end up heartbroken.

And he wasn’t going to allow that.

This would change the plot of the manhwa quite a bit, but he didn’t care, as long as his actions served in ensuring Renelle’s survival, he didn’t care if they were plot breaking.

"Then I’ll head towards the East and hunt some," The patriarch finally spoke up, "but if I find out that you are lying..."

A heavy pressure immediately filled the room as the patriarch looked at him with glowing blue eyes, if Sebastian’s pressure had made him sweat, this one outright forced him to his knees.

Boreas slowly stood up and walked towards him before stopping a few feet away, looking down on him.

This was the true power of the man who ruled the North, not the warm father Renelle spoke about, nor was he the gentle lord servants praised.

But the SS-rank spirit mage who had stood at the peak of Avera for decades.

Boreas Ardent looked down at him with glowing blue eyes.

"Then I’ll make you wish you never met the Ardent family."

For several seconds, neither of them spoke.

Adrian could feel the mana in the room making it harder and harder for him to breathe, yet his expression barely changed.

"...Understood," he said calmly.

For a brief moment, the patriarch stared at him in silence, then suddenly, he started laughing.

With it, his pressure disappeared entirely, almost as if it was nothing but an illusion.

"My daughter truly has an eye for interesting people," his gaze moved briefly to the cat still resting on Adrian’s head.

The creature hadn’t reacted to the pressure at all, iff anything, it looked even more comfortable.

"...Very well," Boreas finally said, "I will investigate this Inferno Wyvern you mentioned."

His eyes returned to Adrian.

"But understand something, child," the warmth had returned to his voice, yet the authority within it remained absolute, "If what you said is true then you may have just saved my family and I’ll forever be in your debt."

Well, Boreas could repay the debt by allowing his daughter to become his, but Adrian had a feeling that it was far too soon to bring that up.

Besides, right now, he was a butler who hadn’t even met the lady yet, so how would she accept him?

Slowly, he stood up straight without a change in his expression before bowing slightly, "as long as it’s a favor that serves the Lady, then I expect no reward as her butler."

"I see," Boreas said with a smile on his face before walking to his desk and retrieving an envelope and handed it to Adrian.

"This should grant your admission directly into Renelle’s class when the academy resumes," he explained, "so make sure you don’t embarrass my daughter."

Adrian took the envelope with both hands and bowed again, before saying, "then I shall take my leave."

"Very well," Boreas said as he returned to his desk, "the coachman is ready to leave whenever you are."

"Thank you, Patriarch," he answered before turning toward the door.

Just as he reached it,

"Adrian."

He stopped.

"Yes, Patriarch?"

Boreas leaned back in his chair, his gaze no longer that of a ruler but that of a father.

"Do not tell Renelle about her mother’s illness."

Adrian paused.

"She knows her mother is sick," Boreas continued, "but not how serious it is."

His voice grew quieter.

"And I would like to keep it that way for as long as possible."

Adrian gave a small nod, "understood."

Then he opened the door and stepped out of the office.

The moment it closed behind him, the patriarch suddenly spoke to himself, or at least that’s what it seemed like.

"So what do you think?" He turned to the side where a man holding a cane calmly walked out, "Sebastian."

"I believe the child is a strange one," Sebastian answered as he looked towards the closed door.

"I see," the Patriarch smiled as he leaned on his chair.

He was quiet for a short while before he added, "Prepare the carriage, we’ll leave for the East at dawn."
