The Lady's Butler: I Reincarnated To Serve The Villainess-Chapter 43: Welcome To The Academy [100 PS Bonus - ]
"What?" Renelle asked, noticing Adrian’s gaze that had been on him for quite a while now.
The two were currently in a carriage headed towards the academy where Adrian would finalize his admission.
Renelle, on the other hand, didn’t need to worry about that since she was a second year who had been attending since the first.
"You look beautiful," Adrian responded calmly.
Renelle had on the academy standard uniform, a white blazer with black lines running along the collar and the edges.
Beneath it, she had on a white shirt and a ribbon. Her skirt was a black pleated one with two parallel white lines at the bottom edges.
Completely the look was a thigh high black student stocking, one that made Adrian almost appreciate the Author’s writing.....almost.
He on the other hand, was dressed similarly, with a tie instead of ribbon and long black pants instead of a skirt, his glasses still resting on his face.
"You’ve stated that before," she said, clearly unimpressed by what she assumed was a shallow comment.
Or at least that’s what she wanted him to think.
"Would you prefer a detailed praize?" Adrian asked, a smile appearing on his face.
Renelle crossed her legs, leaning slightly back against the seat.
"...Go on."
She probably should’ve thought that decision through and she’d definitely regret it a few seconds later.
"Your uniform is designed to suppress individuality," Adrian began calmly, "and to create a sense of equality among students."
His gaze lowered briefly before returning to her face.
"Yet, it fails."
Renelle quietly listened, with a calm expression on her face, trying her hardest not to let herself blush by focusing cold mana on her cheeks.
"Because even in something so standardized," he continued, "you stand out."
Adrian was far from done.
"Your posture, your presence, the way you carry yourself, " he said, looking directly into her eyes, "it makes everything else look inferior."
"It feels like the uniform is the one being —"
"Adrian," Renelle called out in a soft tone, cutting him off.
"Yes, my Lady?" he answered with a small smile.
"...Stop," she ordered.
"As you wish, my lady," he answered without losing his smile, after all, he knew exactly why she ordered him to stop.
Renelle didn’t ask him to stop because she was angry, or anything like that.
Instead, it was she was finding it harder by the second to keep her calm expression, and if he said anymore, she was sure her face would turn red hot.
Which would be embarrassing.
Silence returned in the carriage, but Adrian was still openly staring at her, and she was very conscious of it.
"What happened to the maid?" Renelle asked, trying to distract him from her, even for a while.
Adrian placed a hand on his chin as he recalled the events of the previous night, before replying, "I had her delivered as a gift, for them."
She understood who he was referring to when he said ’them’, so she didn’t bother asking, she just nodded. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"I see," Renelle said before asking again, "alive?"
He looked into her eyes, curious if she hadn’t guess it already, still, he answered.
"She was a danger to My lady both our the past life and this one," Adrian calmly said, "so I removed that danger."
She silently observed his expression for a while before turning towards the carriage’s window, looking at the passing buildings as she muttered, "I assumed as muc."
Did she feel sympathy towards the maid? Not in the least bit.
Besides, if Adrian hadn’t removed her, She, herself, would’ve done so, removing the thorn growing in her mansion.
Silence returned in the carriage, but this time, Renelle was a lot less embarrassed.
"Hm?" Adrian let out in question as a little fox suddenly floated towards him before resting on his head, apparently, that was its new favorite spot.
Renelle looked at the interaction, wondering why her spirit had gotten so attached to Adrian so fast.
It was probably because he was the one that fed her the Lotus the ’first’ time they met.
Speaking of the first time they met,
"How were you able to see her?" She suddenly asked, pulling his attention towards her again.
"Hmm?" Adrian let out in question.
"Crystal," Renelle clarified, "you were able to see her the first time even though her presence was hidden."
If a spirit remained hidden, although they’d still remain in the same physical space...sort of, they’ll be completely invisible to the eye.
Except you had special eyes like the Saintess or Isla, or
"My glasses," he answered as he lightly adjusted them, "they’re a magic tool."
She paused, inspecting the glasses on his face again, if there was one thing she was certain of, it was that everything he did was related to her in some way.
But she couldn’t be certain that those were the same magic tools just yet.
"Where did you get them?" she asked, her voice quieter than before.
"The Ardent family’s secondary treasure vault," he answered, "they’re a reward granted by the Patriarch after I completed my training."
She was certain now that they were the very same magic tools she had gifted the prince, in her past life, the very same ones he had discarded right in front of her.
"I see," She muttered, turning back to the window, before adding in an almost whisper, "they suit you better."
"Hm?" Adrian asked, not quite catching the last part.
"Nothing," Renelle answered.
Adrian then turned his attention towards the little fox on his head, raising a hand to pet it, which it gladly allowed, unlike a certain cat currently in his vault.
«I am not a pet,» Noctis’ voice appeared directly in his mind, which he promptly ignored and continued petting the three tailed ice fox.
The carriage ride lasted for a while longer before it suddenly stopped in front of a grand set of gates.
Beyond the gates stood an equally grand building with students moving in and out through the open gates, their uniforms similar to Adrian’s and Renelle’s.
The coach soon opened the carriage door allowing the two to step out, and Renelle slightly turned to him.
"Welcome to the academy."
