Chapter 64: Subaru’s second chance

Seconds turned to minutes, both Alyndra and Kael’s bodies had vanished completely.

Alya and Sasha tended to the wounded in silence as the group could finally take a breath.

Apparently, Alya’s active skill provided absurd amounts of "wireless" control on her blood.

Even a drop of her blood could guide every part of the body of a lower life form. From controlling it to forcing it to create too much pressure, imagination was the limit.

She decided to explain these things that "I" should already know after learning the truth. There was a lot to talk about but the atmosphere hadn’t allowed us.

What was more surprising was that she actually just guides the body to boost it’s natural healing. Everyone probably would not be that comfortable as she injected them with her nails if they knew her single thought could turn them into meat paste or a slave.

Ren’s face was adorned by a bright smile as she conversed excitedly to struggling to breathe Kobi.

Kobi’s body wasn’t a gory nightmare anymore, his eyes were open and he was listening. His body exuded power equal to Alyndra’s gravity but he probably couldn’t even control that much output without becoming a broken mess again.

Ren hugged Zhenny and Kobi with her muscular but petite arms (she had pushed Zhenny on the ground besides Kobi too).

Sticky tears covered every inch of her face, and Zhenny’s small face was buried completely in Ren’s massive breasts.

Kobi hugged both of them with shaking arms, placing his forehead against theirs.

Much needed wholesomeness after all that, I suppose.

"Wh–What’s happening to me... Lucien?" I shivered as I heard Subaru’s confusion filled whisper.

Fifteen minutes were finally over. Well what was comforting was that my instincts sensed no danger from him anymore. Even if he crashed out, I could more than handle it.

"You lost all your powers and are now just an ordinary human." I replied directly, there was no point playing any games with someone I wanted to work together with.

There was a look of complete shock and disbelief on everybody’s faces for a moment.

Clang!

Just as I finished talking, his pure white long katana fell from his hand, not for dramatic effect but because he was... unable to lift it any longer.

The black katana with red patches was also unsheathed but the next second, it magically released itself from his grip and sheathed itself. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"Is this a prank of sorts? No, no one can just take away my powers..." Subaru’s every step echoed as his short body exuded blood thirst that made even air itself weigh.

"It was the price of getting a second chance... You can start anew now! Get stronger than you were before and live your life to the best. Look at the positives, Subaru!" I spoke in a light tone which actually came out very serious and sorrowful.

If I were to have everything I ever wanted, power, Alya, wonderful memories, and it was all suddenly snatched away, I would feel worse than horrible.

"I don’t need it! I was one of the strongest allied with people equally strong. I was literally the ruler of a planet and my focus was perfecting my swordsmanship with them. I had everything—A family, a goal, a home." He gritted his teeth as he grabbed my collar.

Alya almost acted to restrain him, only stopped by my raised hand.

"You were forced to get this chance, I suppose. I am sorry, but there is nothing you can do besides accepting what had happened." I bowed. I had no idea if anyone can even be comforted in that situation.

"Lucien... This is not a joke. You made me an ant that could be squashed by the likes of them..." He pointed at the messed up slaves, "And call that a chance?! Chance?"

"It’s what the artifact said..." I was lost for words. He was someone able to destroy continents now facing even someone like Sasha would require him to focus.

His experience and instincts should still be there but no matter how skilled someone was if all they could do was one damage to the enemy that had one thousand health points.

And the enemy could kill them with one hit while moving much faster. Every fight would require you to go beyond everything and anything which kind of sounded thrilling in a sense but in this life threatening context, dreading.

"I don’t care about that!"

"I will protect you with my life of course. I will take full responsibility." I bowed deeper this time, calming him was the main thing.

[Damn host... Why don’t you list the main benefit of the second chance?]

Huh? I think I already did... What are you talking about?

[Oh? Did I not tell you? My bad, my bad.]

Red screen wobbled like it was smiling slyly.

[He can change his past through primordial trials and fix his greatest regrets.]

I mentioned that to him. He, and everyone who could hear us, including Alya, was completely mind blown. Past could be changed? Everybody wants that.

I didn’t explain further, just leaving him with that. He went completely silent at first and glared at me for a good five minutes, trying to see if I was lying.

Even when everything told I wasn’t, he still wasn’t convinced. "I suppose I can stay with you for time being. But, I swear, if it turned out to be false, you’d be better killing me instantly and not dare spare me. I will find a way to kill you."

I took note and didn’t of his tone lightly. After the fight with Alyndra, I clearly knew I was not unkillable. Far from it.

...

"[Paw of Pazuzu: Best of Beast]" Suge muttered under his breath. Next moment, his massive black muscles trembled, his arcana and minor injuries began regenerating faster and faster as he touched the ground with his palm.

With the [Eye of Sanguine] I could see he was consuming the energy from earth itself. This clearly seemed to be a spell at the heights of Saint class or maybe even higher.

My healing capabilities seemed duller and duller the more I saw these freaks.

After a few minutes as we were resting and conversing about what to do next, Suge stood up. His foot was tapping rapidly against the ruined black bricks and ground, clearly worried about other Alphas and something more.

Everyone above and on Saint class should have some sorta way to sense their surroundings definitely. Someone at his level probably saw everything in the organization.

I bit my lip when I saw his brows covered in sweat. Something was troubling him.

"What’s wrong now, Suge?"

My words instantly brought everybody’s already tired eyes to Suge, their faces as pale as they could be.

"It’s not now, it had been for a while... Something big is happening on the first floor. Two overload class fighters have been going at it for a while..."
