Chapter 241: Chapter 09: Brotherhood (3)

Her long brown hair was disheveled, seemingly untouched for a long time. Her entire body was filthy, and the tattered long dress she wore looked like it was made from the lowest-quality burlap. She resembled a beggar from the Human World. However, her figure was unexpectedly good, not at all like someone who lacked training.

Chains wrapped around her hands, feet, and neck. The other end of the long iron chains was held by a Zombie Soldier behind her.

Unexpectedly, a clattering wave of more Zombie Soldiers surged from behind the girl. Yes, more. Not just shield-bearers, but also crossbowmen.

Jones was stunned.

Every time the Zombie Soldiers pushed her, the girl took a step forward. The shackles on her body jingled incessantly. From time to time, she would lift her head to glance at the dais where Adelle and Jones sat. Her face, covered in grime, was unrecognizable.

Opposite her, the rhino-like beast was also being dragged forward step by step by the Zombie Soldiers. It roared angrily, attempting to attack them, yet each time, it was forced back by long spears.

Watching the girl, Jones softly asked, "Is she a human?"

"More or less." Adelle stroked his chin as he replied.

Jones widened his eyes instantly. "You’re having a human fight a beast?"

Seeing Jones’s astonished expression, Adelle laughed. "You think the beast will win?"

"Won’t it?"

"This girl, she’s today’s star. If she loses right away in the first round, what should we play next?"

"Star?" Jones looked utterly bewildered.

Adelle reached out and patted Jones’s shoulder. "Relax. You think I can’t even organize a party properly?"

With that, Adelle snapped his fingers softly.

Suddenly, the sound of massive iron chains reverberated throughout the arena.

Jones saw from the corner that a large group of Zombie Soldiers was straining to turn gears. A gigantic iron cage was being lowered from above, enclosing the girl and the beast together. The bars of the cage—each one thicker than Jones’s thigh—gave no chance of escape. Unless one turned into a bat and slipped through, even Jones lacked confidence that he could escape such confinement.

Next, the frail Blood Clan member named Conne Bruch stood up, walked to the railing, and spoke in a language Jones couldn’t understand. Instantly, the girl looked toward Conne and started conversing with him in the same tongue.

"What language is that?"

"Barbarian tongue."

"Barbarian tongue?" Jones recalled the introduction earlier when Adelle mentioned Conne’s family dealt in Beastman slave trade. "Is this girl a Beastman?"

"No, she’s a human. But humans come in many forms; it’s just that only one type is commonly seen. And this one... is uncommon." Adelle replied with a sly smile.

Soon, the girl turned and walked to the edge of the cage.

With a wave of his hand, Conne summoned several Zombie Soldiers, who immediately approached and unlocked the girl’s shackles through the bars of the cage.

Once all the shackles were removed, the girl stretched her body and turned to face the beast still tethered by chains, roaring furiously.

Adelle watched intently and softly recited an incantation.

Instantly, the sensory rings on the beast reacted, and with a "clack," all the chains binding it fell to the ground.

"Begin—!" Adelle shouted loudly.

The girl quietly watched the beast.

Freed from its restraints, the beast continued to roar in fury, even ramming against the cage. Soon, it realized it was powerless against the Zombie Soldiers on the other side of the bars. Then, it turned its attention to the girl trapped with it inside the cage.

Still, the girl remained silent, watching it expressionlessly.

The entire arena fell silent, with only the beast’s heavy breathing audible.

Step by step, the beast ambled toward the position farthest from the girl. Then it turned sharply, charging straight at her with all its might.

Jones froze, his eyes widening in shock.

Forget biting—given the beast’s size, a single ram would be enough to kill any human.

Yet, just as the beast’s horn was about to pierce the girl, she suddenly lowered her body slightly. Then, something unimaginable happened.

The girl’s figure began to expand. Her muscles swelled abruptly, doubling in size in an instant. Her clothes ripped apart.

A guttural roar—a beast-like bellow—broke out. She neither dodged nor flinched, instead pushing forward with her hands, forcefully stopping the charging beast in its tracks. The stone bricks beneath her feet cracked.

Immediately, the members of the Brotherhood cheered wildly. Conne, the slave contributor, smiled triumphantly.

Jones was utterly stunned.

Mere moments ago, he had seen a fragile girl being rammed by a monstrous beast. Now, the scene before him was two savage beasts locked in a fierce contest of strength.

The girl had transformed entirely into a humanoid beast, her entire body muscular, sturdy, covered in brown fur. A tail had sprouted behind her, and her stature had more than doubled in size.

"Is that... a Werewolf?" Jones asked, eyes wide open.

"Yes, a Werewolf—our Blood Clan’s ancient enemy." Adelle replied with a mischievous grin. "This is a gladiator Werewolf that Conne’s father went through great lengths in the North to acquire. Quite an interesting gift, isn’t it?"

Low growls filled the arena.

Turning his face slightly, Jones saw the Werewolf slowly retreating, inching closer to being cornered.
