The Lord: In Another World, I Have a Summoning Card !-Chapter 44: Time Passes
"Of course, for the time being, as long as things go well, external support can be utilized, but it must be limited and under strict supervision."
Arthur thought to himself as he considered the possibilities.
In fact, throughout the events, Dugril had been assisting Arthur.
Although Dugril claimed that his actions were driven by his desire to understand why his army was defeated, which led to the death of his comrades, or at least to avoid dying himself out of ignorance, Arthur was not convinced by his words.
After all, there were dozens of ways Dugril could have pursued his goal, yet he chose to extend a helping hand to Arthur and present himself as sincere and useful, as if he sought to gain Arthur’s trust and prove his value.
However, Arthur was not angry about this behavior, nor did he consider it despicable or deceitful.
After all, who would stand idly by, waiting for their death, if there was the slightest chance of survival? If Arthur were in his position, he would have done the same — perhaps with even more ingratiation and flattery.
In the end, nothing is more precious than life.
And this applied not only to Dugril but also to others, like Gerhom and his soldiers.
Even after they were captured and humiliated, they did not act like those heroic leaders in epic stories who chose to commit suicide to escape torture or to prevent the leakage of information that could lead to the defeat of their people.
On the contrary, they clung to life like natural living beings... not out of heroism, but out of instinct, a desire to survive, or perhaps waiting for a new opportunity, even if it was slim.
And when he finished his thoughts, Arthur turned his gaze towards the guard who was still wearing the armor and gestured to him calmly.
The guard understood the signal and began carefully removing the armor before placing it back on the table.
Arthur approached the armor on the table and wore it himself this time, quickly adapting to it.
Feeling his pulse quicken with each step he took toward it. He lifted the armor with his hands and began to put it on, sensing that its parts fit his body in a strange way, as if it had been made specifically for him.
He didn’t need to pause to check if it fit; it felt as though he had naturally adapted to the armor, as if the two had become one.
"Although I don’t plan to fight on the front lines, enhancing my personal security has become a necessity," Arthur whispered to himself as he donned the armor.
He felt its weight on his body, yet there was an unexpected sense of comfort. "Besides, there’s something about this armor that makes me feel... like I look handsome."
Arthur thought, running his hands over the edges of the armor, as if the appearance gave him an add aura of safety he had never felt before.
As he adjusted to the feeling of the new armor, the guard carefully placed the scroll and fruit inside the designated iron chest.
His hands moved lightly, and his face reflected a deep respect for what he was carrying in his hands.
Afterward, the scroll and fruit were carefully placed inside the box, and the lid was securely closed once again.
...
Three Months Later
With the sunrise, the castle whispered with activity. Guards moved everywhere, patrolling the walls, standing at the ready.
Meanwhile, inside the castle, Arthur sat at his table in the castle—his command room—running his fingers over the documents spread before him. Each paper was filled with the details of the battle records he had fought against the attacking forces in the past months.
After the defeat of Gerhom’s army, the first few weeks had passed relatively calmly, during which Arthur’s achievements were recorded.
It was unfortunate that he couldn’t gather any useful intelligence from Gerhom or his soldiers, but there was little Arthur could do about it.
It seemed that Orcs’ teeth weren’t only hard as rumored, but their minds were just as tough. They all kept complete silence, except for Dugril, who acted obediently and played the role of the traitor excellently.
However, the information he provided was not of great value and did not offer Arthur any real advantages.
This reinforced Arthur’s initial suspicion—that the kingdom’s leadership, after years of dealing with the orcs, had likely planted spies within their ranks and had been able to gather far more valuable information than what a low-ranking orc like Dogril, or even some of the senior orc commanders, could possess. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Because of this knowledge and under Dugril’s insistence, Arthur rid himself of Gerom and the rest of his soldiers.
After all, no agreement had been made between the humans and the orcs regarding the exchange of prisoners, and even Adamant had not planned for Gerom or the soldiers who knew about Jonathan, the Silver Knight under his command, to survive.
Once he finished with the matter, he went through a quiet period focused on maintenance and rebuilding of the fortifications
But this peace did not last long, as it seemed that the news of Gerhom’s defeat had reached the main orc army.
In order to preserve the honor of their race, even though they did not send forces of the same caliber as Gerom or stronger, they sent multiple groups of young orcs to attempt to breach the stronghold.
Of course, Arthur was not pleased with the idea of being treated as a training dummy, but this "surprise gift" was, in his view, a valuable opportunity.
He quickly seized it and began organizing military rounds that included defensive battles, and occasionally offensive ones when the chance arose.
Arthur slowly rose from his seat near the window, clasping his hands behind his back as he gazed at the training grounds from afar.
He then raised his hand, revealing three gleaming cards, each bearing a different symbol or crest.
"The most important thing that helped me continue... is these things."
He first looked at the stone card.
[Summoning Card – 250 units of building stone]
"A key resource for reinforcing fortifications... These stones are three times harder than regular ones, as if they were made specifically for the walls of a besieged castle. Without them, the walls would have collapsed under the repeated orc assaults."
Then he turned his gaze to the second card.
[Summoning Card – 300 tons of grains]
"And this card is a treasure. As long as the properties can shift from the virtual to the real, it can feed a thousand regular men for ten months. A full ten months of sustenance."
Finally, he paused before the last card, his eyes focusing on it more intently.
[Summoning Card – 500 Hebrad Knights]
〖Unit Name: Glowing Spear Knights – Kingdom of Hebrad〗
〖Number: 500 Fully Armored Knights〗
〖General Description: The Glowing Spear Knights are an elite unit from the Kingdom of Hebrad, known for their high discipline and lightning-fast attacks. They are trained in the use of long swords and heavy spears while riding, making them a devastating shock force on open battlefields.
〗
〖Armor and Equipment: They wear interlocking blue steel armor with an additional protective layer for their horses. Their armor is adorned with the emblem of the Kingdom of Hebrad: a flaming spear within a ring of fire. Each knight carries a heavy black steel spear, a side sword, and a medium-sized rectangular shield.
〗
〖Special Abilities:〗
〖Vanguard Strike: They can execute a devastating breakthrough into enemy lines when led by a knight of Iron rank or higher.
〗
〖Unit Cohesion: It is difficult to disrupt them under arrows or magic, thanks to their psychological and collective training.〗
〖Tactical Integration:
They can be integrated with infantry or archery units to form complex offensive formations.〗
〖Additional Units:
300 Secondary Spear Knights – Alifron Province
50 Unit Commanders – Every 10 knights are supervised by a subordinate commander.
Supreme Commander Sir Darius Valtamir, a tactical expert and top-tier fighter, enhances his unit’s effectiveness by 15% in organized battles.〗
Unlike the first card, which is classified under the "Character Cards" category, where the leadership character is the focal point and the accompanying soldiers are merely secondary support—as in the case of Sir Jonathan de Castor and the Black Raven Knights—this new card belongs to the "Special Military Unit Cards" type.
It primarily focuses on the unit as a cohesive combat force, with the commander being merely a coordinating element, surpassed by the collective efficiency of the unit itself.
The leader of this unit, despite holding a military rank and a leadership symbol, did not possess a significant individual superiority over his soldiers, unlike Jonathan.
The difference in strength was minimal, which gave the unit a more cohesive and integrated combat style, as if it were a well-oiled war machine moving as one entity.
Arthur even noticed, after testing them in one of the patrols, that almost all of the unit members possessed a strength level no less than that of a "trained knight," while the number of Iron Knights was much higher compared to the Black Crow Knights.
This alone made the card highly valuable strategically, especially in battles requiring the confrontation of organized Orc armies or intense attacks.
With this balance in mind, Arthur decided to act wisely, just as he had done before. Instead of summoning the full force available in the card, he opted for a partial summon, calling up only about 60% of the full power, while keeping the rest in its default state as an emergency reserve or for a larger upcoming battle.
This decision was not random
Arthur had come to understand the importance of managing military resources with the mentality of a seasoned commander, not an impulsive adventurer.
The results were good.
The summoned half of the unit alone was not enough to repel the fierce retaliatory attack launched by the Orc armies after their previous defeat.
However, these forces were also able to execute a limited counterattack, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy and imposing tactical control over positions near the castle.
