The Magic Academy's Physicist-Chapter 27: F**king Homeroom Teacher
Chapter 27: F**king Homeroom Teacher
I went to school early to account for any delays in my schedule.
The north section of the Academy was packed with golems. A few Earth Mages were operating them to repair the damaged outer wall of the building.
I took a detour so as to not interrupt their work.
There was much to do. Firstly, I needed to look up some magic theory books at the library.
Since I didn’t have my student ID yet, I couldn’t immediately head to the library. I spoke to the Academic Affairs team and they issued me a temporary pass. When I showed them the Academy Proof of Admittance, there was a look of great surprise on the face of the person who wouldn’t issue me one before saying ‘a slave’s status isn’t recognized’.
“Oooh.”
It was my first time stepping inside the library.
It felt meaningful that I could browse and choose books as I wished when I used to rely on Miss Heerlein to borrow them for me.
[□R&D in Progress : Magic Element─Energy Convertibility Theorem]
To prove this theorem, I needed to look up math-related books first.
It wouldn’t be at the undergraduate level. I went up to the fifth floor where they had the reading rooms for graduate students. The place reeked of another’s life being ground to pieces.
It didn’t need to be academic papers, just a book of that level.
[Comprehensive 4-Element Theory Using Linear Algebra]
[Advanced Magic Mathematics]
[Concerning the Usage of Group and Representation Theory in Fire Magic]
These were the three I was loaning.
I sucked at math... would be a lie. It wasn’t a lie, however, that I was lacking compared to those who were in theoretical physics or majored in pure maths.
Hard math was necessary in developing magic theories. That was why I came here, to study this again.
After checking them out, I went directly to class. There were a few students who had arrived earlier. One of them greeted me with a wave when she saw me.
“Aether!”
Red hair and red eyes.
Her shoulder-length hair was neatly combed, skin glowing white even without any makeup. It was an appearance like that of a child in a noble household.
And that actually was the case. Lotte was the daughter of Margrave Saliere in charge of the western frontier.
It was the privilege of the student who arrived first to get their choice of seating. And generally, those students tended to sit in the back of the class. This was the same both here and in the other world. As expected, the few who were already here were occupying the back seats by the windows.
Lotte didn’t do that. She was sitting at the very front.
And directly in front of the lectern at that. This would probably pressure the teacher more than the student.
Her will to make strong eye contact with the soon-to-be homeroom teacher certainly stood out. It was something to appreciate, since it meant that she was passionate about studying.
I exchanged greetings with Lotte then sat next to her. It was the seat in closest proximity to the chalkboard.
A few more people came in afterwards. Some were familiar faces, having seen them before.
“Yo! I knew we’d be in the same class!”
Freyr. Family name was ‘Shelkany’, I think.
It wasn’t a name from the Empire, but neither was it a name from elf country.
She freaked out when I teased her about her height by calling her a kid, yet she was proud to think of herself as a dwarf. How ironic.
The other one was a male elf student.
‘Vermel Horde’, the most mysterious figure as of now.
The reason was simply because of how calmly he responded to the beasts’ invasion. As if he had known from the beginning that it would happen.
Could it be that there are others who came over to this world from Earth?
It even gave me such thoughts. In the first place, Vermel seemed aware of what kind of magic I was learning. It was vastly different from others who’d think that I ‘wouldn’t be able to use magic as a Golden-Eyed’.
[Who knows? He could be a regressor.]
A regressor?
[Someone who travelled back in time. He could be an elf originally living in this world but time turned back for some reason. Everyone else, us included, don’t remember it happening, but that elf retained his memories, perhaps.]
Well, that didn’t seem probable. It’d create a time paradox.
As someone who had been in experimental physics for so long, I had a habit of doubting anything that couldn’t be observed.
I couldn’t even accept things that were widely-known to the public such as parallel universes, wormholes, and dark matter. To me, they were just one of many hypotheses until proven through experimentation.
On that note, the hypothesis of Vermel being a regressor was immediately scrapped from my mind. But the other premise of the Goddess dropping someone else besides me into this world had some merit. Because I was a victim of it myself.
If that was what happened to Vermel, then he wouldn’t have come in his natural form. Earth didn’t have elves, after all.
There were two possibilities. He either incarnated as an elf to begin with or the mind of an elf happily living their life was overwritten by the Goddess’ power.
[We normally call them transmigrators.]
Sure. Let’s say that Vermel was a transmigrator like the book said.
Then that would mean I was also a transmigrator borrowing the form of some girl from this world.
With those thoughts, I turned my head in Vermel’s direction to see what would be his reaction when we faced each other.
Like that time right before the written test, Vermel made an uncomfortable face when our eyes met and subtly looked away.
What’s wrong with him?
[What. Is it green light?]
Bullshit.
As someone who’d originally been a man, those weren’t the eyes of interest from my perspective.
How to put it. He seemed to be wary of me.
[There are different branches of transmigrators. They vary, such as those who transmigrate into a character of the novel they were reading, or into a character of the game they were playing, etc.]
Novel? Game?
I’ve never heard of such a thing.
In fact, it was more plausible to say that a Goddess marketed a product using the world she oversaw as a motif and caught those who took the bait in a net.
Because for me, the existence of this Goddess was already something observed. Though I didn’t understand, I could accept it. Like when physicists first became receptive to quantum mechanics.
[It may be better to think of it that way.]
However, it was still in hypothetical stages. Since this wasn’t something proven, I needed to approach this by coming up with some postulations and verify the most probable one.
But I could be considered a weirdo if I straight-up confronted him all ‘I’m in the same situation as you’ from the get-go. And if by chance Vermel wasn’t a transmigrator, it’d be embarrassing on my part.
Vermel sat at a bit of a distance from where Lotte and I were. Yet his gaze burned relentlessly into the back of my skull. I felt like I was explicitly under watch.
The relationship I needed to pay immediate attention to was with the elf as I already got along well with Lotte and Freyr.
“Are you the slave who was under Duchess Hasfeldt?”
And who’s this bastard?
The guy who came in next already seemed bothersome, just from his looks.
He had gold rings on all fingers with other accessories such as necklaces and bracelets hanging off him. Like he was screaming to the world that he was someone important.
How should I put this? He was like the personification of the Russian palace right before the Bolshevik (October) Revolution.
“Who are you?”
“Oh dear, are you too lowly to know who I am? Understandable, I suppose. You wouldn’t normally be able to talk face-to-face with such a person.”
This guy was rude as fuck.
I briefly recalled why I wanted to enter Tilette Academy. When I did, I understood why the guy in front of me was being confrontational.
The Second Prince of the Philiut Empire.
He was probably that bastard.
That was some shitty luck. So he had some skill, did he? I heard that he had applied for admissions but I didn’t know that he passed, much less be assigned to the gifted class.
But it wasn’t much of an issue at this point because that damn scenario of me being sold to the palace had been foiled long ago.
There was only one thing I needed to do: learn every magic in order to return to my original world while safe within the bounds of Tilette.
And develop a way to beat the Cataclysms along the way. Otherwise, the continent could be ruined before I learned everything.
“Then I’ll introduce myself. I am the future Emperor of this nation.”
Then Lotte, who was next to me, whispered in my ear with a slight frown.
“He’s His Highness the Second Prince, Klion Philiut. Famous for his sexual voraciousness towards women. Apparently, he’ll go for anyone with lower status and a decent appearance.”
It looked like it.
“Lady Saliere, was it? What did you just say?”
“I informed her of your name, Your Highness.”
“I see. Ah, don’t misunderstand, by the way. My principle is to embrace any beautiful woman regardless of her status. I’m not too concerned about family names and such.”
It was a talent in and of itself to word it that way. Wasn’t he just saying that he purposefully takes his pick from Baron households or commoners since there’d be protests if he laid a hand on anyone at a Count’s level or higher?
I wanted to go and demand of the Emperor right this minute why he didn’t raise his kid properly. What would happen to the country if the self-proclaimed future Emperor was like this? Ahh, I was really, really curious!
“Since today is the first meeting, I’ll leave it at that. We have many days ahead of us so we can take it slow.”

The first encounter with the Prince was terrible. At least from my end. I was being hit on by some piece of shit because I was in a woman’s body.
I was a little pissed. There were so many humans and elves on this continent, so why did I end up in the body of Golden-Eyed girl who was a minority group?
As soon as the Prince left, I whispered to Lotte.
“That Prince, is that how he usually is?”
“No, he wasn’t that bad when I met him at a younger age. But at some point, his obsession with women crossed the lines. I don’t know why he became like this either.”
Before I knew it, the rest of the students came in and found their seats one by one. The bell rang from the gothic-style steeple. It was the bell for the morning meeting.
The lower years of the Academy wasn’t much different from a high school system. There were aspects like every class having a homeroom teacher, the students being taught in one classroom, one teacher going around to multiple classes teaching the same lesson, and such.
Of course, that wasn’t to say that there weren’t any aspects of university systems.
First of all, one could sit wherever preferred during lessons. Textbooks and other belongings could be left inside the lockers in the hallway and grabbed whenever needed.
Hmm, was there any university with designated seating? That’d be funny if there was.
“The teacher’s coming!”
The sound of heels could be heard from the hallway. It was getting closer. As if....
[General Theory : Doppler Effect]
Wow, what a way to ruin it.
Can’t it stay still at a time like this?
[Sorry. It’s automatic.]
Alright, this much was okay considering what kind of day it was today.
My current state was one of elation. I was somewhat excited to be back in a position of learning after a long time. If the homeroom teacher was a good person, I couldn’t ask for more.
Drrrrr. The sliding door opened. A scent of lavender mixed with tobacco pricked my nostrils.
The homeroom teacher made eye contact, then walked all the way to the front where the lectern was. They picked up the chalk that had been rolling around on the lectern and wrote their name one letter at a time.
─ Klais Hasfeldt
“... It’s nice to meet you. I’m Klais Hasfeldt and will be in charge of the gifted class. I hope for us to get along this year.”
After finishing, the teach briefly looked down at me.
[Ohhh shit.......]
Gonna sit in the back starting tomorrow.
