Chapter 29: You Want To Be Tutored?

“Hm, it’s time already. Then this will be the end of today’s lesson!”

After such a busy class, it was lunchtime. If I were to exaggerate a little, I felt like I would die of starvation.

Since I’d been reading when I could during the lesson as well, I made quite the progress.

[□R&D in Progress : Magic Element─Energy Convertibility Theorem]

Soon, I’ll have the first step in developing this world’s version of a nuclear weapon.

I wouldn’t be able to do everything myself when it came to the actual development stage. My role went as far as establishing the theories and conducting preliminary tests. In order to start the actual manufacturing, there needed to be a lot more people involved.

This meant one thing. I had to gather those who’d cooperate with me.

It’d be best to have one from each field. There was already Lotte as the Fire Mage, and for Earth Mages I could get help from Miss Heerlein or Freyr. The problem was Water or Air Realm.

To receive help, I needed to become helpful to others first. Thus, I had to prove my abilities within the Academy.

It wasn’t my style to present my talents through fighting. And it wouldn’t catch attention, either. There were already many students at this school who were adept at Combat Magic.

So I was going to use the same method that I did in my original world. That was to first submit and publish an academic paper.

I didn’t take my eyes off of the book even while eating. Lotte stared at me as I was deeply concentrating.

“Hey, isn’t that a difficult book?”

“Huh? Uhh... yeah?”

“That’s fascinating. Can the Golden-Eyed comprehend such complex things with ease from a young age?”

“Not too sure. I’ve never seen another Golden-Eyed besides myself.”

I kept reading after lunch. Even while walking. I paid just enough attention to not bump into anyone and focused the rest of my senses into reading words and understanding formulas.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

What now?

“You there! No reading while walking!”

A blond, female student stood in my way. Her eyes were green like Vermel’s.

She wasn’t an elf. There weren’t many humans who could use Air Magic.

The other noticeable thing was that her skirt was a bit longer compared to other female students and she was wearing an orange armband. This much was enough to give it away.

A member of the student council.

“You’re....”

“You must be the oldest daughter of the Saliere family. And is this the famous Golden-Eyed lady? I heard you were the only one to get perfect on the written test in the history of Tilette.”

She wasn’t saying anything fancy but there was elegance in her voice and accent. The way Lotte lowered her head now compared to how she had stood tall before the Prince indicated that this person was anything but average. When I saw Lotte’s attitude, I instinctively bowed my head in greeting as well.

“I’m Aether.”

“A pleasure to meet you. I’m Shadiel Argana.”

“Argana is....”

One of the Four Grand Dukes, the Argana family. They were a high noble with the cleanest reputation in the whole Empire.

Of course they’d be. By default, the Air Elemental only blessed those who were good.

“It’s good that you’re passionate about your studies but keep that to your desk. Understood?”

“Understood.”

That was it for the meeting with Shadiel as I wasn’t the only one she was concerned with. She was busy calling on anyone using the lunch period to be sloppy with their uniforms or carry around items that would distract their studying.

After that brief encounter with Shadiel, Lotte and I purchased a few reference books and returned to the classroom. It’d be some time before afternoon classes finished and I could leave, it seemed.

Immediately following afternoon classes. Klion returned to the palace in a carriage decorated with gold.

Usually, it was recommended that all students stayed in the dormitories.

Klion didn’t bother. The reason being that it’d be undignified of him to live together with lowly people. As if they didn’t want to bother arguing against his stubbornness, the Academy also allowed him to do as he wished.

When he arrived at the palace, his father didn’t greet him as he was occupied with seeing to external matters. Without even announcing his return, Klion bypassed the Emperor’s office and headed to his room.

Instead, there was someone else there to greet him.

“My my, if it isn’t His Highness, the Second Prince. Have you returned from school?”

A languid voice. Klion knew the owner of the voice very well. A man who he saw at least once a week without fail.

“Well, if it isn’t Duke Blanton. It’s been nearly four days, hasn’t it?”

“Indeed. Have you been well until now?”

Jack Blanton. As one of the Four Grand Dukes, he was the head of the mage family that was at the pinnacle of Water Magic.

Most had never seen his aquamarine eyes due to the shades he wore. And yet the name of Blanton itself was an indicator of how well-versed he was in the ways of water.

Nothing else was necessary. Blanton could bring the beasts to a heel like dogs with his name alone.

“And what is that in your hand?”

“Ah, this? It is a water gun.”

“A water gun...?”

Duke Blanton waved around a toy the size of his palm. It was a toy gun made of rough materials. With every pull of the trigger, a stream of water came out instead of a bullet.

“I found this fun little thing on a business trip to the beastkin country so I purchased one at the duty-free. I hope that my daughter will like it.”

“Mm, there seems to be a childish part of you that occasionally surfaces, Duke.”

“Haha, it’s an honor to hear that. I’d been thinking about the inevitability of growing old as my eyes have recently started to blur.”

Blanton was one of the few who could jest with Prince Klion. He handled the Second Prince so brilliantly that he was said to be someone who could rein in His Highness who was blotted with sexual desires.

Even with this conversation, something could have gone wrong and incited the Prince’s displeasure. Klion was like an active bomb detonator. The only one in the palace who knew how to handle that bomb well was Blanton.

Instead of getting angry, Klion ended the conversation with a click of his tongue. He then brought up a new topic a few seconds later.

“Well, no matter. Do you recall how I told you last time about the Golden-Eyed slave I was to buy from Duchess Hasfeldt?”

“I do. You were going to spend tens of thousands of gold to purchase her. The rumors within the palace say that that is how stunning a beauty she is.”

“Of course they’d talk. It was my first time seeing a Golden-Eyed, but I’m confident that none could compare to that wench.”

“Then why have you not brought her into the palace yet? It should have been sometime since the agreement with Duchess Hasfeldt.”

At that moment, Klion furrowed his brow. Something bad must have happened, surely.

“Because the Duchess admitted that Golden-Eyed into Tilette!”

“Hooo, despite having gone through with the contract?”

“That’s right! That bitch must have wanted to screw me over! Is this how fickle the mouth of one of the four pillars holding up this Empire should be, Jack?!”

“No, of course not. The Emperor should hold the Duchess accountable for her offense.”

“Father is reacting indifferently to it. That’s why my chest is about to burst with frustration!”

Klion pounded at his chest.

“Is there something that can be done?”

“If that is the case, then there is no need to take it out further on Duchess Hasfeldt. Is it not the Golden-Eyed girl that you desire, Your Highness?”

“It is.”

“Approach her tomorrow with a few thousand gold. This is what you’ll tell her: that you’ll feed and house her as much as she wants so she should quit the Academy and come be your servant.”

“Indeed, you mean to seduce her with money. Then again, there’s nothing in this world that can’t be solved with gold. It was good that I talked to you, Jack.”

“It will at least be worth a try. Then I’ll be taking my leave.”

After thanking Blanton, Klion ran to his personal safe and took out 5000 gold pieces. Such an amount wasn’t easy to come by for most nobles, let alone commoners.

Originally, the 30 000 gold intended for Duchess Hasfeldt was also to save her face. But now that they’d become hostile with each other, it saved him on expenses, rather.

“No bitch could resist all this.”

Grinning, Klion laid down on his bed.

Once afternoon classes were finished, I was assigned to my dorm.

First, I had to go retrieve my things from Miss Heerlein’s place. I told Lotte then returned to the mansion and packed 40 kg worth of gear.

Most of that weight was magic papers and mana stones. The rest were daily necessities.

The money that I made went into paying tuition so my wallet was light, currently. There were only a few pieces of silver. Like this, I’d have to return to work before a month passed.

It was heavy luggage but it wasn’t to the point that I’d fall over from carrying it. I came back to the Academy with a large sack full of stuff. Even on the way there, I focused on reading.

[You’re not putting down your book even though you were warned.]

Shouldn’t it not matter as long as I don’t get caught? The student council wouldn’t be going around at this time, either.

“You’re back earlier than I thought.”

I was in the same room with Lotte. Whether it was a stroke of luck, I didn’t know. It could have been decided in order of our scores.

As soon as I unpacked, I pulled out a pen and paper. I was writing down a formula when Lotte approached me. She looked like she had something to say.

After pursuing her lips, she let out a sigh and reached into her pocket. From the inside of her robe, two silver pieces were pulled out.

“Could you please tutor me?”
