Jason raised a brow, gesturing for her to come closer. She didnt know why but she did come closer even while sporting the annoyed expression she had on her face. As she approached, he caught the faint scent of her perfume—rich and intoxicating.

"You smell good today," he murmured his tone a mixture of compliment and challenge. "And what did you want, for me to invite you to the mall so we can take a walk and hang out?"

She smiled, but it faltered as Jason grabbed her wrist, pulling her closer. She gasped, her composure slipping as she found herself inches from him. "Jason, someone might walk in. I didnt lock the door this time!" she said in the manner of a hushed whisper, her eyes locked in his.

"And?" His voice was a low growl, sending a shiver down her spine. "Aren’t you the boss? Or is it me you’re afraid of?"

Her eyes flashed with anger, but before she could retort, Jason kissed her. It was a calculated risk, one that paid off as she melted into him, her resistance crumbling. The kiss was electric, a clash of power and desire. As soon as she melted into the kiss, Jason knew that was the reason she had come in there to begin with. Just to be intimate with him, to remind him that she still existed.

So predictable. But also so cute. All of his women were just brilliant.

The door suddenly opened, and Samantha’s secretary froze in the doorway, her cheeks flushing as she stammered, "Excuse me... I didn’t mean to—"

Jason broke the kiss, his gaze sharp as he addressed her. "No need to leave. Come in."

The secretary hesitated, her pencil skirt clinging to her as she stepped inside. Samantha shot Jason a look, her lips pressed into a thin line. You fucking bastard! I told you but you didn’t listen!!

"What is this about, Bella?" she demanded, her voice tight as she turned back to the secretary. Jason turned to her. So even she didnt know why the secretary was here… Neither did Jason.

This meant the secretary whose name was Bella had come over all by her own accord, and even walked in all by her own accord, without knocking, all to find the two of them like this…

What were the odds? Jason had had a feeling about this secretary for the longest time. And now maybe it was time to figure it all out.

Jason smirked, his eyes locking onto the secretary’s. "I have a feeling she knows something we don’t." He leaned back in on the table behind him, his fingers steepled. "Tell me, who sent you?"

The secretary’s eyes widened, panic flashing across her face. She started to stammer an excuse, but Jason was not having it. He stood up, walking past Samantha as he approached Bella.

Bella’s expression was a vision of fear and anxiety at that moment, understanding that she had just seen something she was not supposed to. But with her abilities, she was going to make it out of this room. "Mr Cross, I swear I just came to have her confirm something with the Boss, I had no idea you... I swear I will never tell anyone anything. I love Ms Samantha more than anything and she trusts me, so please... Nobody sent me..."

Jason gave her slow, understanding nods, that made her calmer just by his open body language as he came to a stop in front of her. "I know I know. Trust me I know... but still. I can’t help but wonder… What are you here for?"

"I was—" she was just about to say, but Jason interrupted her with the snap of his fingers, his voice commanding.

"Look at me." His tone softened, laced with embedded commands after interrupting her pattern. His eyes glowed slightly as he said his next words, something that Samantha could not see while standing behind him.

"From now on, you’ll tell me the truth—the whole truth."

Her expression glazed over, her body visibly relaxing as his words took hold. And then after Jason smirked and started asking questions, Samantha’s jaw soon dropped to the floor as the secretary began to speak, her words spilling out in a rush.

What Samantha found out next was going to flip her world upside down.

— Meanwhile Somewhere else—

James Carter was sitting in an office, overlooking the city. It was the morning now and he was looking extremely happy. Every day was another day he was taking over the city and soon enough his name would ring out in the entire province. But one day... If he could... he would love for the Carter name to ring out in the capital too.

That was the biggest dream he had, the biggest dream he allowed himself. Well for now he was taking it day by day. And he was making progress.

He had been using the secretary from Samantha’s company for a long time, and at first, he had not really thought much of her, but now he knew just how useful having a woman like that right next to Samantha was. After all, the information she had been sending him was so vital to building up all his tactics recently that it was almost a shame he couldn’t take her seriously.

She thought they were in a relationship, that she was his secret backup plan, his mistress in the shadows who was going to rise and become the queen of the Carters.

She was so wrong...

She was nothing more than a pawn in this game. That was the world to James Carter. The world was split up between people who played the game, and people who were pieces in the game. If you were a piece, you would never be able to distinguish yourself from the true game. You will be used and sacrificed and then thrown away back into the box where you belong.

James smirked, thinking bout the coming few days... Jason Cross. Was he a piece or a player? Well, James had a way to use him as a piece, but he would have to put the right pieces in play first. His connection to Jack Cross was the first thing. The next would be his connection to the secretary.

James chuckled as he took a sip of his drink. Jason was a nutty guy offending so many families at once. There was no way he was going to survive this.

The Ellis, The Carters and the same family that abandoned him before, the Cross family were all coming after him, trying to rip his head off his shoulders and it was going to happen because Jason had no protections in place.

There was more to this business than met the eye. It was not a thing he could navigate safely just because he had somehow gotten some money from somewhere and invested it in Samantha’s company. Businesses needed networks in the light and the darkness.

James chuckled, shaking his head. Now that he had galvanised the Cross Family, who were going to occupy Jason to an extent, he could start chipping away at Samantha using the piece he had by her side. That girl was feeding him the best information. He should reward her with fifteen minutes of his time the next time he saw her.

"Mr Carter... you called for me..." said a woman walking in while wearing the sultriest silk robes that slid off her body in the next moment, exposing her already pert nipples to the open air. James placed his drink on the table and smirked.

Samantha, wait for me.

You will never get away from me while I still have money power and influence in this city.
