The Mighty Mage-Chapter 493: Examination
Chapter 493: Chapter 493: Examination
Long Yifan was baffled by the sudden change in Gu Jin’s demeanor.
If she wanted to mess with Bai Qing and Li Mian, she should have done it quietly. Why involve instructor Luo?
Gu Jin smirked,
"To punish them legally as well as on our own."
It took a few seconds for Long Yifan to catch on to Gu Jin’s words, but the moment he did, an evil smirk appeared on his face.
See...this was the reason why he loved Gu Jin. She was just like him.
When it comes to punishing the evildoers, she acts just like him.
...................
Gu Jin led Long Yifan to her dorm room. Luckily for them, the last night’s party had tired all of Gu Jin’s teammates, and none of them were present in the dorm.
Entering the room, Gu Jin made a beeline for the small cupboard beside her bed and took out a pouch.
Waving her hand, a pair of gloves appeared in front of her, which she wore in a swift motion, and she started to mix the powdered herbs in each pouch with precision and accuracy.
Long Yifan watched from the sidelines and couldn’t help but feel awe.
His wifey was a smart cookie!
Once done, she poured the newly formed powder into a blue pouch, closed the pouch, and threw it in Long Yifan’s direction.
Long Yifan caught it effortlessly and asked,
"What is it?"
"Something similar to Lustshade." Gu Jin smiled coldly.
She refused to admit that when she recognized the poison in Long Yifan’s system, she felt a wave of fury wash over her.
Lustshade was something even the evil alchemist despised.
Not because of its properties, but also because of its side effects.
At one point, the residues of the poison would trigger the poisoned person to have intimacy every single hour of the day, and eventually, the poisoned person would lose all of their rationality.
What the f*ck was Bai Qing thinking when she drugged Long Yifan like that?
Suppressing her rising anger, Gu Jin motioned for Long Yifan to sit,
"For the next few days, don’t go close to any female or male. Avoid physical touch. And get Bai Qing to inhale that pouch."
Long Yifan agreed,
"Okay."
In his heart, he was dancing with joy. His wife was taking revenge on his behalf! How could he not be happy?
Gu Jin sat back in her chair after handing Long Yifan the pouch, her gloves already vanishing with a flick of her wrist.
Her sharp eyes studied his face for a moment, then she said casually,
"My training ends in two weeks."
Long Yifan blinked. "Oh?"
She nodded. "After that, I’m planning to visit Lightning Mountain."
"Then I’ll go with you. Wouldn’t it be safer if I came along? You know... to protect you?" Long Yifan said without hesitation.
Gu Jin stared at him.
Then scoffed.
"I should be the one protecting you."
"I won’t argue that," Long Yifan grinned. "But let me come anyway."
She didn’t say yes.
But she didn’t say no, either.
Instead, she stood and dusted her hands. "Fine. You can come—if you can keep up."
Long Yifan’s eyes lit up. "Deal!"
"Now leave. You’ve got a train to catch."
Long Yifan’s smile faded a little. He looked around the room as if trying to memorize every corner of it. "Can’t I stay just a bit longer?"
"No."
"But—"
"No."
He pouted. "Then at least give me a goodbye hug?"
"No."
"...A pat on the head?"
"No."
"Okay, how about just stand by the door and wave when I leave?"
"No."
Long Yifan sighed dramatically and slumped his shoulders like a scolded child. "You’re so heartless, you know that?"
Gu Jin didn’t reply. She just crossed her arms and stared at him until he finally started walking toward the door.
When he reached it, he paused and looked back one more time. "You’ll miss me, right?"
"No."
"I’ll take that as a yes."
She rolled her eyes. "Leave before I change my mind."
"Alright, alright!" He turned the doorknob, then hesitated again. "Gu Jin?"
She looked up.
He gave her a small, genuine smile. "I love you, baby."
Gu Jin glared at him, as if she would skin him alive if he didn’t leave and Long Yifan smiled.
The door clicked shut behind him.
The room was quiet again.
Gu Jin sat back down at her desk, her fingers drumming lightly on the wooden surface. She looked at the empty pouch on the table, then at the door.
For a long second, nothing happened.
Then, just the faintest tug at the corner of her lips.
A smile.
Small, rare, and gone in a heartbeat.
"Idiot," she murmured to herself.
..........................................
Two hours passed.
The quiet hum of the academy halls was broken by a low groan from the bed. Bai Qing’s eyelashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Her head throbbed, and her body ached. The room was unfamiliar — dim, plain, and cold.
Then it all came back.
Last night. The plan. Long Yifan. The thunder shock.
Before she could gather her thoughts, the door creaked open.
Instructor Luo stepped inside.
Tall, stern, and sharp-eyed.
Bai Qing froze.
"Instructor Luo?" she asked, trying to sound composed, but her voice trembled. "What... What are you doing here?"
Instructor Luo’s gaze was cold as steel. "You’re awake. Good."
Bai Qing’s throat went dry. Her heart pounded in her chest.
"I—uh—I don’t know what happened. I just—why am I here?"
"You know exactly why you’re here." Instructor Luo crossed the room slowly, arms behind his back. "You’re under arrest for drugging Long Yifan with Lustshade."
Bai Qing’s blood ran cold.
She laughed nervously.
"W-What? That’s insane! I didn’t do anything! We were just... talking! The three of us—me, Li Mian, and Long Yifan—we were just having a casual conversation."
Instructor Luo didn’t blink.
"Don’t insult my intelligence. Gu Jin already provided testimony. We’ve examined the residue from the room and confirmed the presence of Lustshade."
"You’re making a mistake!" Bai Qing shouted. "This is all a misunderstanding!"
"Then you won’t mind cooperating with our investigation," he replied flatly.
"You’ll answer our questions and submit to truth verification. Refusal will only strengthen the case against you."
"I didn’t do anything!" Bai Qing snapped.
"It was Li Mian! She’s the one who set everything up! She told me she had a plan to lure Long Yifan. I just... I just followed her to talk! That’s all!"
Instructor Luo’s expression didn’t change.
"I swear!" Bai Qing stood, panic growing. "I didn’t know she had Lustshade! She probably drugged Long Yifan, not me! I was just trying to help!"
"You knocked Li Mian unconscious," Instructor Luo said coolly. "We found her injury. She’s still not awake. How do you explain that?"
Bai Qing stuttered. "I—I didn’t mean to! I thought she... I thought she was going to hurt Long Yifan!" freeweɓnovel.cøm
"So you admit Long Yifan was in danger?" she asked calmly.
Bai Qing’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
Her knees felt weak. She backed toward the wall, eyes darting.
Instructor Luo gave Bai Qing one last look before gesturing toward the door.
"No—wait! You can’t—!" Bai Qing began to protest, but two academy guards entered the room, their expressions unreadable.
One of them stepped forward and firmly grabbed her arm. "Move."
"Instructor Luo, please! I’m innocent!" she cried out, but her words bounced off the walls like hollow echoes.
Luo didn’t respond. He simply turned on his heel and led the way.
Bai Qing was dragged out of the infirmary and through the academy halls. Whispers followed her like shadows, students and staff turning their heads as she passed. Her face burned with shame and fear.
At the academy gates, three officers from the Magic Council waited—tall, armored, and radiating authority.
One of them held a sealed document; the other two stepped forward to receive her.
"Instructor Luo," the leading officer nodded. "We’ll take her from here. She’ll be held until her trial."
"Be thorough," Instructor Luo replied. "We can’t afford any mistakes with this one."
He handed over a pouch containing the collected evidence—traces of Lustshade and a detailed report. Then, with a final nod, he stepped back and let the Council officers take over.
The moment Bai Qing was in their custody, her demeanor changed.
She started panting, her face flushed unnaturally.
"I... I don’t feel good," she said, stumbling slightly. "It’s hot... I think someone poisoned me!"
The officers exchanged cautious glances.
Bai Qing suddenly leaned toward one of them, her tone sultry and breathy. "You’re so strong... Can you hold me a little longer?"
The man stepped back immediately, face hardening. "Keep your hands to yourself."
The female officer beside him grabbed Bai Qing by the collar and yanked her upright.
"Don’t try that nonsense. You’re only adding more charges."
"I swear! I’m not trying anything! Someone poisoned me! Please!" Bai Qing wailed.
"You can’t feel it, but something’s wrong! Check me—get a healer! I’m serious!"
The lead officer gave a sharp nod. "Fine. We’ll take her to the examination ward before the prison intake."
