Chapter 227: The Legend of 1,000 Stairs (II)

But if she could be honest, she would’ve preferred her marriage to be something she chose on her own, not something dictated by a holy being she had never even seen.

She wasn’t even a werewolf or a lycan to begin with! So why had the Moon Goddess dragged her into this whole mate bond nonsense?

But still ... why did Edmund suddenly want to take her there?

Oh no.

’Don’t tell me that he actually believed in that ridiculous legend?!’

"Then ... should we leave now?" Edmund didn’t say a word about the Moon Goddess’ temple, but his eyes and his thoughts were clearly telling a different story.

[I really want to go to the Moon Goddess’ temple,] he sighed to himself. [Maybe ... if we do the ritual, I really can stay with my wife forever.]

So he actually believed in that legend?!

"Husband," Primrose stopped him just as he was about to get up. "Have you ever heard about the one thousand stairs of the Moon Goddess’ temple?"

She wasn’t sure why she brought it up. Maybe it was just curiosity, but since her husband seemed to believe in that ridiculous legend, she figured she might as well ask what he thought about it directly.

"I know that place," Edmund said, and his eyes started to light up like someone just whispered a divine secret into his ear. "It’s not far from here. We just need to walk for about ten more minutes. Do you want to go?"

He didn’t hesitate at all when he asked.

"I can give you a kiss to help you feel more energized," he added with a calm tone, but the way he said it made Primrose feel like he was trying to tempt her, like a lovesick teenager convincing their crush to try some romantic ritual.

Alright, maybe not that dramatic. But still ... he clearly wanted to go to the Moon Goddess’ temple.

Primrose let out a quiet sigh. "Alright, fine. Let’s go there before heading back to the palace."

But just as Edmund leaned in for a kiss, she quickly raised her hands and covered her lips.

"Don’t kiss me here," she whispered. "There are people around."

"Why not?" he asked, blinking in confusion. "Married couples kiss in public all the time."

Primrose looked around and sure enough, a few couples nearby were sneaking in kisses here and there.

"Yes, but they’re not using their tongues," she whispered, lowering her voice even more. "Let’s just find a more private spot. Maybe behind that tree?" She subtly pointed with her eyes toward a big tree nearby.

It wasn’t that she wanted Edmund to use his tongue on purpose, but, let’s be honest, that kind of kiss would make it easier for him to pass on his saliva and give her that stamina boost.

Edmund didn’t say anything. He just stood up immediately, grabbed her hand, and led her straight to the tree without a second thought.

He didn’t even glance at their belongings. The only thing on his mind was fulfilling his wife’s "request" for a kiss.

In her defense, Primrose had only asked for some help with her stamina. She didn’t ask him to start making out like a man on a mission.

But apparently, the only part Edmund heard was the word ’kiss’ and nothing else.

Once they were behind the tree, Edmund gently pushed her back against the trunk and kissed her, not just once or twice, but over and over, until Primrose genuinely forgot how to breathe.

He didn’t even try to hold back, not even a little.

Maybe that fortune-teller was right when she told them that Edmund had too much bottled-up desire.

Most of the time, he did a great job keeping it under control. But every now and then, he could act just like a wolf in heat that was completely overwhelmed by how much he wanted her.

"Edmund ... Edmund!" Primrose turned her head to the side, trying to dodge his lips. "We’re still in public. Don’t do anything crazy here."

It was as if his ears had been plugged by something, he didn’t listen to her words at all. Instead, he shifted his attention to her cheek and neck, kissing them again and again until Primrose felt her legs go weak.

Now she knew for sure that whatever they did this morning clearly wasn’t enough for him.

"Edmund!" Primrose eventually raised her voice and pushed him back. "Stop it!"

The second she said that, Edmund froze in place like a statue. He stopped chasing her lips, and stopped pressing her against the tree trunk.

"I ... I’m sorry," he said, staring straight into her golden eyes.

As if he had just realized what he was doing, his eyes widened in shock and he took a few steps back in panic. "I’m sorry! Did I hurt you? Did I go too far?"

[Shit. Shit. Shit. What is wrong with me?!]

[She only asked me for a kiss, nothing more!] He panicked. [Did I push her too hard against the tree? Crap, did I hurt her back? Did I grab her arm too tightly?]

[Why do I keep acting like a beast around her?!]

Primrose quickly walked over to him and gently held his face in both hands. "It’s alright. Really, it’s alright. You didn’t hurt me, so don’t worry."

She looked into his eyes, making sure he really heard her.. "I just think ... we shouldn’t do anything too intimate in public. That’s all."

"Really?" Edmund finally let out a long sigh of relief. "I didn’t hurt you at all?"

Primrose nodded. "You didn’t." She gave his cheek a few light taps and smiled. "Alright, I think I’m good now. Let’s go climb the Moon Goddess’ temple before sunset."

Her feet still hurt, actually, but she wasn’t as exhausted as before.

Besides, Edmund had always given her everything she wanted, so now she wanted to give him what he wished for too, even if she still thought that legend was total nonsense.

"I’m really sorry about my behavior earlier, my wife," Edmund said, lowering his head like a guilty puppy. "It won’t happen again. I promise."
