Chapter 158: Chapter 158. Fake Call

Andre approached the skeletons, clasped his hands, and closed his eyes.

A faint golden light emanated from the box behind him, flowing into the containers holding the remains.

As the golden light entered the containers, the skeletons were enveloped and turned to powder.

Each of them carried some powder to the outside of the church, and in a place resembling a cemetery, they dug pit after pit and buried the powder inside.

Andre then performed a prayer for the deceased, inviting the Holy Mother to guide their souls.

Although Ed wanted to say that their souls should have already been taken during the battle, it would be somewhat disrespectful to say so in the current situation.

"Alright, the mission is finally complete. Let’s go back to the ship."

Everyone nodded, and Ed once again controlled the lantern, making it float around them, with mirrors swirling around it.

Looking at the church behind them and the densely packed buildings and collapsed ruins, Jason couldn’t help but ask, "No other exploration teams have been here yet. Shouldn’t we loot it?"

"Uh... I mean, treasure hunt."

Ed also felt it would be a pity to give up now, after all, they had spent quite a bit of time getting here. But to tell the truth, he had actually put away quite a few valuable things while others weren’t paying attention. A thief and treasure hunter can never leave empty-handed; this was his life motto.

Seeing everyone’s gaze, Andre shook his head seriously.

"No, we’ve been in this Dark Region for too long. Adding the time it took to sail out, we still have at least a month left. Our mental state will start to deteriorate."

Then he looked at Jason and said, "Didn’t you hear the whispers? Vanessa heard them too. Our situation isn’t absolutely safe right now."

Just as Andre was speaking, Elena, who had been standing next to Ed, suddenly collapsed and bumped into him.

Elena’s brows were furrowed, and she was holding her head in her hands.

Seeing this, Vanessa didn’t hesitate to open her arms and insert five threads into Elena’s chest.

A bottle of potion appeared in her hand, the same kind Jason had drunk earlier, capable of eliminating his mental problems.

The energy surged into Elena’s chest along the silken threads.

A moment later, Elena opened her eyes; her face, which had just regained some color, turned pale again.

The weakness from the previous battle, coupled with the lack of protection from the ship’s runes upon entering the island, made her even more vulnerable to the intrusion of dark spirits.

Seeing this, the others fell silent and hurried towards the ship.

As for stopping and continuing to loot, they decided against it; the current environment posed a greater danger than the skeletal evil spirits on the island.

As they returned, more skeletons appeared from nowhere and attacked them.

Andre faced the skeletons with a powerful punch, a blue glow sweeping forward.

The skeletons fell in droves, cleared in less than 10 seconds.

The group hadn’t even had time to stop.

Soon they arrived at the port where the ship was docked.

A bloody stench wafted into their nostrils on the gentle sea breeze.

"Something’s happened? Quick!"

The smell of blood in this place could only be coming from their ship.

There were no living beings around besides them. The undead don’t bleed, and the passage of time had eroded even the corpses. The already impatient group grew even more anxious. This was a very bad omen.

Ed took direct control of the mirror, using the illuminating stone to create a beam of light that mixed with the lantern’s glow, shining into the distance. It struck the Blue Fist, anchored in the harbor. The ship’s position had clearly shifted from where they had left it.

What worried them most were the planks that had been there earlier. The sailboats that had been floating nearby were now sinking, with only their shattered sterns visible.

As the light shone, the color of the seawater around the Blue Fist also changed. It no longer seemed a deep black.

Seeing this, Andre stomped his foot, creating a crater in the ground, and shot off like a cannonball. Jason and Vanessa followed closely behind, while Ed carried the weakened Elena on his back and hurried forward.

Andre jumped onto the boat first. By the time Ed arrived, the light had already illuminated the murky liquid in the seawater: it was blood. Very fresh blood.

The dark seawater began to bubble and gurgle, and a figure emerged. It was Sankaka, who had been guarding the boat. He slowly walked from the water to the shore. As Ed stepped back to ashore, he saw that Sankaka was carrying the tail of a huge shark in one hand.

The shark’s tail was at least two meters wide, covered in wounds, and blood was still flowing from it. With a heave, he dragged a shark seven or eight meters long ashore.

Andre jumped off the boat again and walked over in a few strides. By now, his expression had returned to calm.

Sankaka was covered in blood, but he acted as if nothing was wrong. He opened his left hand, and as the light flickered, a stream of clear water gushed forth. He raised his left hand above his head, and the water flowed down, washing over his body. His raised hand was like a shower of rain.

The clear water washed away the blood and grime, and also reassured Elena and the others, for as the liquid washed over him, Sankaka was revealed to have no wounds.

Andre, on the other hand, showed no concern whatsoever; he knew Sankaka’s strength very well. He had checked on Hamo and the others when he jumped onto the boat, and they were not in danger.

Sankaka flashed a bright smile, revealing a mouthful of sharp teeth. He reached out and touched the tip of his long, sharp nose.

"This damned sea beast really overestimated itself. But the flesh of these creatures living in the Dark Region is all foul-smelling; all that effort wasted." He seemed a little angry again, kicking the shark beside him. The shark twitched slightly at the movement.

Gami stepped forward to examine the shark and, in front of everyone, began to dismember it using his four tentacles.

While dismembering it, he explained, "This shark’s skin is quite tough; it could be made into a leather garment, comfortable to wear, and maybe even offer some defense. Its back and tail are quite sharp, but the blood and flesh are filled with dark magic. Yep, this is inedible." He shook his head.

At this moment, Ed couldn’t help but peer at the enormous shark. Its fatal wound was likely the huge, bloody hole in its head, along with some scratches and bite marks on its body.

Looking at Sankaka’s sharp teeth and his pointed, slender nose, Ed imagined the creature’s fighting style. Although he had never seen Sankaka fight before, he imagined it was powerful.

After all, according to Elena, Sankaka was the strongest member of the exploration team besides her father. If they were in the sea, her father might have been bested by Sankaka; he was a true killer of the deep.

Since everything was all right, everyone boarded the Blue Fist. Elena slid off Ed’s back, greeted everyone, and then went to her room alone to rest.

A moment later, Gami came up, dragging a pile of materials behind him with his tentacles, and then went into the cabin.

"Set sail."

With Andre’s command, the sails unfurled. Andre walked to the helm and began to steer.

He said to the few people still on the deck, "I will slow down a bit and go to the island where Ed and the others were before, to transfer the woman’s soul. After that, we will leave the Dark Region as quickly as possible."

Everyone nodded and then returned to their rooms for a short rest, waiting for the ship to arrive.

Ed returned to his room, collapsed onto the bed, and fell into a deep sleep within seconds of closing his eyes.
