The Mob Character Who Woke Up!-Chapter 80: History Class (4)
"A-age of madness?! What's that supposed to mean?!"
So many frantic murmurings about the ominous topic suddenly filled the classroom like a wave. Professor Morgrave took in all the excited chatter and smiled with satisfaction.
Nice, she had captured their full attention now. This was exactly the way to teach these stupid students who thought they knew everything. She was a genius at this. She praised herself internally.
Kaizen just looked down at the words he had frantically written in his notebook.
Age of Shattering and Age of Madness seemed too mythical to actually exist in reality, but then again, there must be a concrete starting point for everything, right?
'What is the true lore of this world? I genuinely wonder.'
Kaizen was incredibly keen to learn more about it. He was too excited to discover the real beginning of everything.
The devils and gods that apparently existed. And where did the devils originally come from? Where did the gods come from?
Were they really otherworldly creatures that bestowed a small fraction of their incomprehensible power to pitiful mortals out of kindness?
Or were they all-seeing, all-knowing creatures that created this entire world from nothing?
Kaizen didn't know the answer to any of those fundamental questions, and similarly almost every single student in the class was visibly interested in the topic now.
Kaizen even noticed that the elven princess was keenly paying attention with a focused expression.
'Doesn't she already know this information? Elves must have preserved their history meticulously since they have significantly longer lifespans and form tight-knit communities.'
Not to mention, since these creatures were naturally harmonious with nature and each other, there weren't constant internal wars and political upheavals to destroy records or change kings and entire lineages like what happened frequently in human kingdoms.
Even orcs who chose their chieftain purely based on physical power and combat prowess had more stable historical records than humans.
But then again, there must be secrets even these elves don't reveal to the outer world despite being in a formal alliance with humans and other creatures.
Kaizen's eyes unconsciously trained on her long elegant pointy ears. Suddenly feeling his persistent gaze on her, the princess turned her head around sharply. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Kaizen immediately looked to the side desperately to avoid her cold eyes, only to accidentally see Lance at the other side doing a slow slicing gesture with his thumb across his neck.
Kaizen immediately closed his eyes in resignation.
'What a shitty luck stat I have.'
Kaizen could only curse his absolutely terrible luck that kept putting him in these situations.
At the same time, Professor Morgrave clasped her hands together loudly, making the entire class fall silent once more.
"But we are not going to learn about the Age of Madness today."
Disappointed sighs erupted from the students who shook their heads in frustration. It was just getting interesting! Kaizen felt too disappointed as well.
Professor Morgrave chuckled at their reactions and raised a single finger.
"Don't worry so much. This is just an introductory class to whet your appetite. We have plenty of time throughout this entire year to cover everything properly.
"The Age of Madness, the Seven Bloodlines of the Beasts, the Lineage of Gods, the Nine Demon Kings and their territories. These are all topics we are going to explore in detail in the coming classes.
"So be prepared to have your minds blown away. Class dismissed."
Saying that final statement, she took one more long look at the silent students and walked purposefully toward the door. As she was leaving the classroom, she stopped at the threshold and said without turning around.
"You don't have any other classes scheduled today. You can go directly to your Magic department and start learning if you want to get ahead."
Then she was gone.
Only after she had completely disappeared from view did the students begin to chatter excitedly about the tantalizing things she had just mentioned.
"The Seven Bloodlines of the Beasts! The Lineage of the Gods!! That sounds so cool!"
"And here I thought Age of Madness was going to be the ultimate knowledge drop but nah, nah, the really cool things are only about to come!"
"I am definitely not missing any of her classes!"
"Did she say Nine Demon Kings? Like, nine of them?!"
Kaizen was in a similar state of excitement too.
'Seven Bloodlines of the Beasts? Lineage of the Gods? Nine Demon Kings? What are all these things? I don't know anything at all!'
Kaizen was too excited for the upcoming classes. He desperately wanted to learn more about the actual history of this world. Where the magic originally came from and why it existed.
And not to mention, he genuinely believed that understanding magic and its origins would give him concrete answers to his biggest questions.
'Like what is this world really? Is this genuinely a game world that was made real? How did I actually wake up in this body? What's my real purpose here?'
But there's a significant chance that the history she knows might not be entirely true at all.
That was the fundamental problem with ancient history that didn't have any photographic documentation or reliable sources.
Often times throughout history, historical records were written by the victors of conflicts.
That means there was a high probability that whoever were considered the good guys at that time must have deliberately rewritten history to make themselves look heroic.
'Hmm, maybe I should research this myself independently.'
'Maybe I should join some history-based clubs when it's time to join academy clubs and extracurricular activities.'
Kaizen nodded to himself while processing this plan. Just then Leo tapped on his shoulder.
"Hmm? What is it?"
"Are you alright? I felt like something was missing when you first came into class today?"
Kaizen's eyes widened seeing the usually hyperactive Leo being genuinely concerned about him.
Not to mention the guy was actually calm and serious for once instead of bouncing around. Kaizen deliberated for a second about what to say, then sighed heavily.
"Forget about it. Just do your things. I am heading to my department now to start learning. Bye Leo."
It was strategically best to uphold some version of the truth and just give Leo small crumbs of information here and there.
That way when the inevitable confrontation time came, Leo could understand what was actually going on and get his revenge against Lance himself without requiring Kaizen's direct input or involvement.
That way the fight would remain just between Leo and Lance as it was supposed to be. Kaizen wouldn't be dragged into it at all.
He grabbed his bag and walked purposefully toward the door without looking back at anyone.
Leo watched his retreating back with a confused expression, then turned to look at Klaus who was also staring at Kaizen's departing figure with those unblinking red eyes.
Klaus suddenly turned his head and locked eyes with Leo for a brief second before standing up smoothly and collecting his bag.
He too was heading to his department to learn about rune magic and ancient symbols.
Leo sat there alone for a moment, looking between the two empty seats.
"Why does everyone seem weird today?"
