The Monster King's Legacy-Chapter 222: The Titan King
The battlefield trembled as the Obsidian King finally stepped forward. Each movement of its colossal form sent shockwaves rippling through the earth, its obsidian crown glinting ominously in the faint light of the Earth's Heart, a star like ball of solid energy that shone with a mix of several colours, making it a bit difficult to tell what the true colour was.
Lance stood at the base of the massive Titan, his fists clenched and his sharp eyes fixed on its glowing visage. Beside him, Aelyndra, still in her dragon form, growled low.
The Obsidian King's voice boomed, deep and resonant, shaking the very air around them.
"You show yourselves now, traitors! Your shackles will no longer hold nor hinder us!" it declared, its glowing eyes locking onto those before it. "These abominations must be cleansed. Only then can the earth be reborn."
The Obsidian King raised a massive arm, its crystalline veins glowing brighter as it swung downward with immense force. The impact shattered the ground where Lance and the others stood, creating a crater that stretched for miles.
They managed to avoid impact, and Lance leaped to the side, avoiding the attack, though he underestimated the damage, narrowly avoiding falling into the crater.
Aelyndra roared and unleashed a torrent of golden flames, the heat so intense that the air shimmered. The flames struck the Titan King's arm, engulfing it in a blinding inferno, but as the flames dissipated, the Titan King emerged unscathed. It swung its other arm toward Aelyndra, the sheer force of its movement sending her crashing into the ground.
"Aelyndra!" Lance shouted, rushing to her side.
She groaned, lifting her massive form from the rubble. "I'm surprisingly fine," she growled.
The Titan King pressed its attack, its movements deceptively fast for its massive size. Lance and Aelyndra fought back with everything they had, but the Titan King's defenses stood impenetrable.
A single swipe of the Titan King's arm sent both of them sprawling. The ground beneath them cracked and split as the Titan's attacks grew more ferocious.
"We're not even making a dent," Aelyndra muttered, her golden eyes narrowing as she struggled to rise before Lance healed her.
Lance stood, stretching a bit. "At this rate, won't it destroy the entire island?" He said. Even though the island they were on was at least as big as a small country, all the pounding and damage would eventually get to it. "We just need to find a weakness."
The Titan King raised its arm again, this time summoning a massive wave of dark energy. The wave crashed toward them, consuming everything in its path.
Aelyndra looked forward as the attack was so wide they wouldn't be able to dodge in time, unleashing a powerful barrier to shield herself and Lance. The barrier held for a moment but shattered under the Titan's relentless assault, before it gave way completely, she immediately erected a few more.
As debris and smoke cleared, the Titan King loomed over them, its glowing eyes filled with contempt.
"Your defiance is meaningless," it said. "You cannot stop the inevitable."
Lance's gaze hardened as he met the Titan's gaze. "Maybe not. But I'm not giving up." He said. freewebnσvel.cøm
He and Aelyndra could only wonder where the elders were at such a time. They didn't even realize it, but somehow, they had somehow disappeared… it felt all too convenient.
Putting the thought aside, he lunged forward almost like a beam of light, unleashing several cleaving blades aimed at the Titan's legs. The attacks struck true, creating small cracks in its crystalline armor, but they were insignificant against its massive form.
The Titan King retaliated with a devastating stomp, the ground beneath Lance shattering as he narrowly dodged, perhaps, one of his major minus in the battle was that he couldn't fly.
"Lance, we can't keep this up!" she called out, her voice strained.
Before she could finish, the Titan King unleashed another wave of energy, its power forcing both of them to block rather than dodge.
"This thing isn't just strong," Lance muttered, his gaze fixed on the Titan King. "It's nearly invincible."
Aelyndra growled low. "We need help. The elders—" She said, stopping once she remembered their predicament.
"This is on us." Lance said.
"Illusion magic is useless, most of my offensive magic is not strong enough… a lot is lacking. So far, only my defensive magic seems to be good enough." Aelyndra said, more to herself than anyone.
Though she was being a bit hard on herself, Lance didn't blame her, after all, she was only a little over fifty, there was no way a mage would be able to develop catastrophe level magic in such short years when they've been developing magic all-round and on their own for the better half of those years.
Just then, the Titan King raised its arms, summoning yet again another surge of energy. The battlefield trembled as the power of the Earth's Heart began to seep into the air, amplifying the Titan's already overwhelming strength.
"Prepare yourselves," the Titan King said, its voice echoing like thunder. "The end begins now."
…
The battlefield trembled under the weight of the Titan King's presence as the battle continued, Lance and Aelyndra pouring out all they could bring upon the Titan King. Even then, nothing seemed to be working.
Suddenly, as the Titan King raised its colossal hand to strike, a sudden surge of energy emanated from Aelyndra. Golden flames surrounded her form, intensifying to a blinding light that forced even the Titan King to hesitate.
Lance turned to her, shielding his eyes from the radiance. "Aelyndra?"
The glow around Aelyndra grew brighter, her scales radiating with divine energy. The power of the Dragon God, which had enhanced all dragon-blessed, now surged through her veins, reaching its peak. For some reason, it appeared to have been triggered at that moment, working another miracle.
Almost spontaneously, her form shifted slightly, her wings expanding, the edges glowing like molten gold. Her horns sharpened, their tips crackling with golden lightning, and her claws glowed with an intensity that hinted at devastating potential.
As the transformation completed, Aelyndra stood taller, her aura so fierce it couldn't be compared to her just a moment before. Even more surprisingly, the Titan king waited for all this to happen, not bothered in any way that she would pose a threat to him.
"Aelyndra…" Lance murmured, awestruck.
She turned to him, her golden eyes blazing. "Wow… This must be how you felt…" She said. "I'm stronger now, Lance. Stronger than I've ever been."
The Titan King roared, its voice reverberating across the battlefield, shockingly, a mild laughter.
Looking at their enemy, Aelyndra turned to Lance, "though, I don't feel strong enough to deal any substantial damage."
"A-hahaha… baby steps."
"..." "We don't have time for baby steps."
