The Nameless Extra: I Proofread This World-Chapter 23: True Authority
"Will you trust me?" Ruvian said.
After voicing the question, his gaze shifted away from her face and settled on the translucent panel hovering between them.
The [Character Sheet] had been summoned only moments ago, and its pale light reflected faintly in his eyes.
He read through the information in silence.

Then, Ruvian inspected her [Innate Blessing].
’Lunira’s Golden Weightscale.’ he muttered.
The reason he had asked her that question was never arbitrary, but it was anchored to this blessing, because of its nature.
It was a blessing that guided her toward the best possible answer whenever she was forced to choose or respond to a question or choice.
It did not explain why an answer was right or wrong, nor did it offer any reasoning. Instead, it simply urged her to choose, and to do so with complete trust.
The blessing only activated when she was made to pick between options. If no choice was presented, it remained dormant and silent.
Because of that, Silvena was always confident when she made her decisions, even when others hesitated.
Ruvian, who had read the novel, understood how powerful it truly was, and he also knew how far it would push her.
But one day, that very same blessing would also guide her to an answer she could not accept.
As he lifted his gaze and looked into Silvena’s dark eyes, she met his stare without wavering.
Then, she answered unhesitatingly.
"I’ll trust you."
"Good," Ruvian replied.
"Then, both of you... buy me ten minutes, and keep his hands full."
Both of them nodded.
And almost immediately after, the man charged toward them, though he no longer looked like a man anymore, as two twisted horns had grown from his head.
Irene moved first and stepped forward to block the incoming attack. She braced herself as she met him head-on with her sword, while Silvena followed right behind her and adjusted her stance to back her up from the rear.
Ruvian remained where he was and watched the fight from afar. As he observed, some important context from the novel appeared in his mind.
More specifically, it came from the author’s footnotes—written during the early parts of the story when the novel had just begun and when Zian first met Silvena at Wellencrest Academy.
When the story began, it had been noted that Silvena had lost a single member in the Golden Ciphers.
It was also stated that her goal during the early phase of the story was to seek revenge against a certain demon who had taken something precious from her...
And that precious person was Irene, who had died while protecting her.
That loss was what caused Silvena to become obsessed with hunting demons, and it slowly pushed her into believing that their existence had never truly disappeared.
Yet, even with all that established, the author never explained how Irene died or when it happened. She only mentioned that the two of them were caught off guard by a demon.
So when Ruvian learned that the blonde-haired woman accompanying Silvena was Irene, he calmly noted that Irene was still alive around this time, during this Prologue stage.
But that realisation brought another understanding.
As the dangerous man appeared, radiating a strange pressure and distorted mana, Ruvian began to suspect that this was the untold event of the novel.
’An event where Irene was meant to die.’
With that assumption in mind, he tested it by provoking the man earlier, deliberately stirring his emotions.
Since demons could never fully understand human emotions when they took over a body. That reaction was all the confirmation he needed.
So it was, indeed, the same demon that had killed Irene.
Now that everything had aligned, Ruvian realized that he was about to change the momentum of the story far earlier than it was supposed to happen.
But the thought did not trouble him in the slightest. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
Why would it? Not only had he already become acquainted with Silvena, but he had also been given a chance to prevent Irene’s death!
Irene might not have been the strongest among the Golden Ciphers, but she possessed the greatest potential, especially since she was the youngest among them.
Having concluded that thought, Ruvian did not waste any more time, and as the clash continued ahead of him, he activated [Omniscient Review].
[-500 PP has been deducted.]
His thoughts moved rapidly through the contents of the novel, starting from the beginning and pushing forward nonstop, searching for a single spell that Zian had discovered in the recent Chapters he read.
It only took him a few seconds to flip to the page where the chant of the spell was written, while the world around him had slowed down.
’What the demon had used earlier to exert pressure on me was undoubtedly Dark Mana...’
And while it was effective at attacking the mind, it had failed to take hold because Ruvian’s Mental Strength was high, thanks to [Indomitable Will], of course.
Furthermore...
’From what it seems, he’s a weak a demon. His control over Dark Mana is very poor,’ Ruvian thought as he observed the mist.
’If he were stronger, he would already be commanding the crimson mist at will, but instead, he can only release it. But he is doing well against Irene, so I guess he’s probably a High Demon.’
He watched as Irene clashed directly with the demon, trading blows at close range, while Silvene swept away the spreading mist with steady wind spells to keep it from closing in on them.
With that confirmation, Ruvian reached his conclusion.
’Then... this is the best spell to defeat the demon.’
He still doubted whether he could properly wield it, because the spell demanded an absurd degree of control.
However, he knew he could compensate for that weakness with his [Indomitable Will] blessing, and since the spell taxed control more than mana consumption itself, the risk was acceptable.
Furthermore, even if the fight dragged on, Silvena and Irene would still hold the advantage, especially now that they were no longer caught off guard.
Yet he knew too well that advantage was prone to withering. Complacency, after all, was the most patient of enemies, and it thrived in this sort of scenario of all.
Therefore, there was no reason for them to lower their guard. If this conflict was to be resolved, it would be resolved completely... here, now, and without leaving room for regret.
Ruvian raised his hand without hesitation, and began the chant.
"From the primordial wellspring where you rest untainted, and from the cradle of creation of luminous current, I call upon the mandate that governs all flows."
"Come forth, and chain the corruption."
He issued the final words calmly...
"[True Authority]."
