The Noble Lady's Rebirth: She just wants to Rest in Peace!-Chapter 300 - 301: News Received
Shanmoi and Hailan glanced at each other and followed directly inside.
Only then did Nanny Guo quietly explain the situation. Zhao Housheng frowned, "Let’s not ask her much about this for now. Sister Ning is a person with her own thoughts. If she doesn’t want to talk about something, she’ll keep it inside. When she’s ready to speak, she naturally will."
Zhao Housheng had such a temperament; he felt that his sister was quite like him in this regard.
Nanny Guo nodded and then entered the inn.
As this was the border city and the cold season, there were no passing merchants. In winter, the inn had few people. So, only Zhao Housheng’s family was there with a few servants.
When Lin Youning came with Shanmoi and the others, the whole inn became lively. The innkeeper was happy to make money and, after receiving instructions, immediately had someone go to the kitchen to prepare meals. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Lin Youning chatted with Sister Ling for a while, and once Liang Hui’er deemed it enough, she let Shanmoi take Sister Ling out to play.
When no one else was in the room, Lin Youning spoke first, "Sister-in-law, please don’t ask me. I don’t want to talk about it. If you don’t want me to stay here, I’ll leave now."
"Look, I haven’t even asked anything, and you’re already throwing a tantrum." Liang Hui patted her hand, "You’re married now and have the status you do; who would dare upset you? It must be the Marquis, right?"
Seeing Sister Ning’s expression change, Liang Hui quickly stopped talking, "Alright, alright, I won’t say or ask anything. You can stay here as long as you want. This is your home."
Lin Youning’s expression finally improved. Liang Hui was surprised to see this, not understanding what could have happened to make the usually gentle Sister Ning change her expression upon hearing the Marquis’s name.
"I see you’re not looking well, and after such a long journey, you should rest here first. I’ll call you when it’s time to eat." Liang Hui thought she might want to be alone, so she offered.
Lin Youning felt relieved, thinking her sister-in-law was considerate and understood her feelings. "Thank you, sister-in-law."
"Alright, we’re not strangers." Liang Hui patted her hand again, looking worried, "As long as you’re alright, that’s all that matters."
Lin Youning hung her head in guilt. Liang Hui said nothing more and got up to leave, leaving only Lin Youning in the room.
Leaning on the bed, Lin Youning knew that she had escaped, and once her big brother knew, he would definitely chase her here. When that happened, she couldn’t hide forever. But how could she face him?
He and Gu Er are the same.
Lin Youning often thought like this, but another thought in her heart told her that her big brother wasn’t that kind of person. Maybe there was some hidden truth back then, or maybe she was mistaken, and her big brother wasn’t the person back then. Someone like him couldn’t have done such a thing.
But what about Aunt’s side? She certainly wouldn’t agree to her carrying a child not of the Gu Family. So whose child was Brother Zong’s?
Lin Youning didn’t know what to think anymore. Every time she managed to prove her big brother wasn’t like that, another fact immediately contradicted it.
Lin Youning felt her head about to explode. She tried to calm herself and not overthink.
She should’ve been happy knowing her big brother had feelings for her, but this discovery sent her plummeting into an abyss.
Perhaps because she was thinking too much or because of the shock, Lin Youning lay on the bed and gradually fell into a deep sleep. Meanwhile, Gu Yifeng, who received the news at the camp, said nothing and rushed out, leading his horse towards the border city.
Upon reaching the residence, he saw Li Si standing at the door, learning people had left the city for Zhao Housheng’s place.
Gu Yifeng said nothing, didn’t even dismount, and rode straight out of the city. Last night, when he kissed Sister Ning, she was so calm, he thought she’d gradually accept it. But upon hearing her departure, he couldn’t control his heart, fearing that in that moment, Sister Ning would leave him forever.
When Gu Yifeng arrived at the inn, Zhao Housheng was sitting in the main hall. Seeing him, he quickly stepped forward to greet him, though his face showed concern.
He had heard about the arrangement between the Marquis and Sister Ning from his wife. Seeing Ning Jie so upset, it had to be a problem with the Marquis, but as a subordinate, he couldn’t ask. Yet, she was his sister, and he felt worried.
Gu Yifeng glanced at him and then strode upstairs. Zhao Housheng did not stop him. Liang Hui and others upstairs heard the commotion and came out of the guest room. Liang Hui directly pointed to the guest room where Sister Ning was sleeping. Gu Yifeng nodded and walked in.
Upon entering, Gu Yifeng saw a small figure curled up on the bed. His heart was tightly gripped. He gently closed the door, walked to the window, and sat down, staring at the curled-up figure on the bed, not knowing what to do.
He didn’t expect that his actions last night would scare her so much. If he’d known the result, he wouldn’t have acted so impulsively.
Thinking that from today on, Sister Ning might hate him, Gu Yifeng felt suffocated.
Outside the guest room, Liang Hui and Zhao Housheng stood, Liang Hui looking worried, "Is everything okay in there?"
Zhao Housheng nodded, "It seems they’re not coming out for now. Let’s go downstairs to eat."
Seeing Sister Ning in trouble, Liang Hui lost her appetite, but with everyone watching, she had to lead them downstairs to dine.
In her sleep, Lin Youning had a long dream. In it, she kept running but couldn’t get out of the Gu Family’s courtyard. She heard Mrs. Kong’s sharp laughter, Gu Er’s cold eyes, and lastly, her big brother standing, silent and watching from the side.
Lin Youning didn’t understand why her big brother wasn’t saving her. She knew she was still the family matriarch of the Gu’s big house, and he was just her cousin, but she couldn’t help but seek his help.
"Little sister, little sister..."
In her dream, Sister Ning heard someone calling her, using her childhood name, a name rarely used anymore. Only one person liked calling her that, and he gave her so much love.
Lin Youning suddenly opened her eyes and saw her big brother looking worriedly at her, holding her tightly in his arms.
"Little sister, it’s just a nightmare. It’s okay now." Gu Yifeng held her tightly, "It’s all big brother’s fault. Big brother promises, what happened last night won’t happen again."
