Chapter 54 - 053: Can't I call you Zhizhi?

He stumbled over to the coffee table, his steps unsteady, and with trembling hands, opened the plastic bag.

When he found the two sets of clothes at the bottom, the tips of his ears burned with a deep flush.

Shi Weiqing took a deep breath, as if he were holding something scorching hot, unable to muster the courage to look at them again.

He knocked twice on the door, but his throat seemed to choke up: "Um..."

After a few seconds of silence, a faint 'click' sounded.

Yu Zhi pressed herself against the door, extending one hand out from the gap.

A faint white mist wafted forward, and Shi Weiqing's gaze lingered on her porcelain-white lotus-like arm for two seconds before hurriedly shoving the items into her hand and turning away in a panic.

He tried to steady his breathing, but the earlier scene seemed etched into his memory, lingering stubbornly.

"Why did you set the temperature so low?" Yu Zhi emerged from the bathroom, feeling the cold wind drilling into her pores relentlessly, making her shiver.

Shi Weiqing turned his head, and his eyes were met with a goddess-like visage.

The girl wore a white camisole nightdress, her jet-black hair cascading behind her, with a few strands obediently framing her delicate cheeks. Her almond-shaped eyes shimmered like rippling waves, drawing one in irresistibly.

Shi Weiqing was stunned for a moment, but as his gaze lowered, his brows furrowed tightly: "Why are you wearing so little?"

"It's not little at all." Yu Zhi sat down beside him and picked up the air conditioner remote.

As she sat, her already knee-length dress slid up further, revealing even the tops of her thighs.

Shi Weiqing stared at her slender legs, his voice growing darker: "Aren't you cold?"

He grabbed a small blanket intending to cover her up, but as he approached, he accidentally brushed against her wrist, causing the remote control to drop to the floor.

Yu Zhi bent down, and the small bow on her chest swayed back and forth.

Before she could pick up the remote, Shi Weiqing had already wrapped her up tightly in the blanket, pressing her securely against his chest.

His chin rested on her shoulder, his eyes darkening: "Have you ever worn this in front of anyone else?"

Yu Zhi, caught off-guard by the embrace, momentarily froze, unable to react: "What?"

Shi Weiqing's throat shifted, repeating the question once more.

"No, I haven't." Yu Zhi pursed her lips slightly, tilting her head a bit: "Why?"

Shi Weiqing inhaled the faint fragrance wafting from her neck: "Winter is almost here. Don't wear this dress anymore."

The tingling sensation shot straight to Yu Zhi's brain, freezing her in place. The hands she had raised to push him away hovered in mid-air.

Noticing her silence, Shi Weiqing tightened his hold around her waist: "Did you hear me, Zhizhi?"

"What did you just call me?" Yu Zhi tilted her head back slightly, locking eyes with him.

Their faces were so close, and Shi Weiqing, staring at her near-perfect lips, suddenly leaned closer, only to stop a few centimeters away.

His breath spilled onto her face, the fiery warmth reminiscent of a midsummer day.

"Can I not call you that?" Shi Weiqing forced himself to look away, the corners of his lips faintly curving: "Hmm? Zhizhi."

This time, Yu Zhi was completely stunned, her lashes fluttering erratically. Two spots of red bloomed on her cheeks.

"You... You should let go," Yu Zhi stammered, flustered from the closeness, having never been this near to a man before.

Shi Weiqing was reluctant to let go, but his rationality forced him to slowly retreat, leaving her soft body.

After just having coaxed her back, if his overstep scared her away, it wouldn't be worth it.

Shi Weiqing gently ruffled her hair, his tone warm: "If you don't like me calling you that, I won't call you that anymore."

Yu Zhi lowered her head slightly, the fabric of her skirt clenched tightly between her fingers. Her voice was so soft it was barely audible: "Not really."

It wasn't that she didn't like it; she just couldn't adapt to the intimacy so quickly.

Shi Weiqing curved his lips, deciding not to dwell on the topic further. Glancing at the time on his wristwatch, he said, "I'll head back to my room now. You should rest early."

Yu Zhi responded faintly, and from the corner of her eye caught him rising to leave. Just as she thought she could finally exhale a breath of relief, he suddenly stopped.

She held her breath, her emotions tumultuous like a roller coaster, unable to relax for even a moment.

Shi Weiqing gazed at the crown of her head, his deep-set eyes hinting at a stirring darkness: "Zhizhi, goodnight."

"Goodnight." Yu Zhi looked up briefly, her eyes darting away as soon as they met his.

The breeze sneaked in through the window, accompanied by the soft sound of a door gently closing. The curtains lifted in faint ripples before falling back into place, as though the moment had never occurred.

Next-door bedroom.

Shi Weiqing stepped out of the bathroom, feeling refreshed. Leaning against his headboard, he stared at the few screenshots saved in his photo album. His deep eyes sparkled like stars.

While he was engrossed in the images, the door to his room abruptly swung open.

"Zhizhi, why did you come over?" Shi Weiqing looked at the figure at the doorway, equal parts surprised and delighted as he quickly stood up.

Yu Zhi said nothing. She walked straight to the bed, pulled back the corner of the blanket, and lay down.

Her movements were fluid, seamless, and entirely uninterrupted.

Shi Weiqing: "..."

He froze in place, his heartbeat accelerating as he noticed something unusual about her.

Shi Weiqing walked over to her, bent down, and touched her head, calling her name twice.

Yu Zhi squinted slightly but showed no expression or response.

"Zhizhi, are you sleepwalking?" Shi Weiqing chuckled softly, pulling his hand away from her head and pinching her cheek.

Yu Zhi seemed slightly uncomfortable, grabbing his wrist and yanking him down with surprising force.

Shi Weiqing, caught off guard, toppled onto the bed and, before he could react, felt her slender arms wrapping around his neck.

"Why are you so strong?" Shi Weiqing murmured quietly, his face lit with a growing smile.

He pried her hands away from his neck and, while she was distracted, slipped out of her embrace.

Shi Weiqing scoffed at the idea of taking advantage, and though reluctant, he decisively carried her back to her own room.

But to his surprise, within half an hour, she returned again...
