Chapter 93 - 092: Let Shi Wei experience the hardships of life.

Shi Yaoyu didn't directly answer his question. "I heard that Dad brought in a lawyer a couple of days ago to draft a will, leaving fifty percent of his assets to Shi Wei."

"And then?"

"Don't you think Dad is being biased? Shi Wei already has Xing Ye. Shouldn't those assets belong to us?"

Shi Yin lowered his gaze slightly, a trace of mockery flashing in his eyes. His voice was devoid of any discernible emotion, "So what do you want me to do?"

Shi Yaoyu leisurely sat down across from him, pulled a check from her bag, and handed it to him. "Dad always complains I can't do anything right. I want to prove myself, but I don't have anyone around me who's on the same page."

Shi Yin glanced at the numerous zeros on the check but didn't reach for it. "Is it that simple?"

"This money is enough to buy you..." Shi Yaoyu deliberately drew out her words, "and your company, right?"

In order to prove herself, and spurred by sheer determination, Yao Yu had started her own company with her medical degree, venturing into the same field as her two 'brothers.'

But no matter how hard she worked, she couldn't match either of them.

Now that Shi Yin's company was hitting a rough patch, how could she not seize the opportunity?

Shi Yin suddenly chuckled, pushing the check back toward her. To him, this ambitious yet utterly incompetent woman was of no interest whatsoever.

He rejected her on the spot without a second thought, leaving Shi Yaoyu somewhat surprised, but not ready to give up just yet.

She languidly stroked the check between her fingers. "Wouldn't a merger benefit us both? I can leave you a seat on the board. Other than me, you'd wield the most power."

"I'm not so desperate that I need to sell my company."

His repeated rejection made Shi Yaoyu's expression darken. She restrained her smile. "Shi Yin, only by getting Dad's assets can we stand a chance against Xing Ye."

"You've always disliked Shi Wei, haven't you? Don't you want to..." She picked up the glass of water on the table and suddenly let it slip through her fingers under his watchful eyes.

A crisp shattering sound echoed as the glass fractured into delicate pieces on the ground.

Shi Yin's pupils contracted briefly, though his surface remained calm and unaffected, as if no situation could rattle him.

"Shi Wei has been comfortable in his high position for far too long. Why don't we give him a taste of life's struggles?" Shi Yaoyu curved her lips slightly, a shadowy darkness crossing her eyes.

She was like a blossoming oleander: beautiful to behold, yet laced with deadly poison.

Shi Yin lowered his lashes, speaking slowly and unhurriedly. "Confidence is a good thing. Overconfidence is arrogance."

He used a placid tone to outline her incompetence.

Shi Yaoyu suppressed the resentment welling up in her chest, locking eyes with him for a long moment. She let out a soft laugh and tucked the check back into her bag. "You have a week to think it over. I'll wait for your answer."

As she walked out of the office, Shi Yin finally breathed a sigh of relief. He pulled at the tie around his neck, yanking it off and tossing it to the side. Then he lapsed into a long silence.

**

Shi Family.

Shi Wei stared grimly at the young woman in front of him, tightly bundled in a baseball cap and mask, her whole figure wrapped with deliberate care.

"I'll go with you." He stood firmly in the doorway, refusing to let her leave.

Ever since dinner, when she mentioned sneaking into the homes of the theft victims to return the stolen goods, his heart had been restless and uneasy.

He'd tried talking her out of it twice, but she hadn't agreed to let him come along. So here he was, blocking her way while she was changing clothes.

"I'll be back soon," Yu Zhi murmured, pressing her lips together, her face hesitant.

"No."

Shi Wei leaned down and pulled her into his arms, resting his chin on her shoulder. His breath was warm against her skin as he murmured, "Zhizhi, let me go with you."

He knew her temperament well—whenever he got close or kissed her, her thoughts would scatter, leaving her unable to focus.

Enchanted by his presence, Yu Zhi hesitated briefly before nodding her head lightly.

When they arrived at the first home that had been robbed, Yu Zhi stopped him just as he was about to open the car door. "Wait here for me."

Shi Wei raised an eyebrow. "Zhizhi, do you not trust my skills?"

"No," Yu Zhi tugged on his sleeve, her tone softening. "Let me go in alone, okay?"

If he discovered the secret of the watch, he'd certainly think of her as a monster.

She couldn't allow that to happen.

Shi Wei caught the fleeting panic in her eyes, his own brows knitting together.

Suppressing the unease in his chest, his voice turned slightly hoarse. "How long will you take?"

"Ten minutes. I promise."

"Zhizhi." Shi Wei cupped her face, leaning in to place a gentle kiss on the corner of her lips. "Be careful. Don't make me worry."

Ten minutes was the most he could allow. If she didn't come out by then, he couldn't guarantee what reckless actions he might take.

Yu Zhi nodded and quickly got out of the car with a small green porcelain bottle, disappearing into the nearby underbrush.

As her silhouette vanished, Shi Wei pulled out his phone and called Chen Cai.

"Boss, I'm already in the surveillance control room. Should I cut the feeds now?" Chen Cai's eyes were glued to the screen in front of him, his free hand gripping the mouse tightly.

"Do it." Shi Wei gazed out the window. His deep, dark eyes were like an endless abyss, absorbing even the faint streetlamp light without reflecting it back.

His eyes seemed laden with countless emotions.

With the order given, Chen Cai moved the cursor toward the lower right corner. But just as he was about to click, the screen went completely black.

Chen Cai's face paled. Swallowing hard, his voice quavered. "Boss..."

"What happened?" Shi Wei's hands, resting on his knees, unconsciously clenched into fists.

"The surveillance system seems to have been hacked. I didn't even get the chance to disable it, and now..."

Hearing this, an image of the girl's expression earlier when she insisted he not follow her flashed through Shi Wei's mind. A suspicion began to form.

Still, to ensure nothing went wrong, he instructed Chen Cai to head to the next location directly.

His watch's hands ticked second by second, the tension in Shi Wei's gaze sharpening as he fixated on the time.

Five minutes passed. She hadn't come out.

Seven minutes passed. She still hadn't come out.

Nine minutes passed...

As the second hand neared the top of the dial, the car door suddenly opened from the outside.

Yu Zhi slid into the passenger seat, her lips curving into a faint smile. "I made it in nine minutes and fifty-six seconds."

She'd kept her promise. And delivered.

Shi Wei gripped her arm and pulled her into his embrace, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist. He didn't say a word.

He inhaled deeply, savoring the faint aroma that clung to her, feeling his blood course hotly through his veins. His entire being seemed to come alive again.

"What's wrong?" Yu Zhi returned his hug, her usually cool voice carrying a faint softness even she didn't notice.
