Jin Gyu-min's eyes swept over Kang Se-heon from head to toe. Ever since Se-heon had readily agreed to meet, suspicions had continuously surfaced and subsided in his mind. Why would he respond to my message so easily? Or maybe, I just happened to catch him at the right moment when he needed an excuse to leave somewhere.

“If you’re just going to stare, I’m leaving.”

Kang Se-heon placed his phone on the table as he spoke.

“Be honest. Where are you coming from?”

“A gathering.”

“What kind of gathering? Ah...”

Jin Gyu-min had been about to ask for details but quickly nodded in understanding. There was one gathering Se-heon attended regularly but never seemed particularly eager about.

“I read online that President Kang Su-hak went to the supermarket branch.”

Jin Gyu-min recalled an article he had come across. Seeing that Se-heon didn’t deny it, he clicked his tongue.

Even in small family-run businesses, money was enough to cause discord. For a major conglomerate, the stakes were even higher. The current KH Group chairman had only two sons. If both had been equally capable, they could have each taken charge of a solid subsidiary. However, while the eldest was exceptionally competent, the younger son had never quite measured up.

Now that the corporate reshuffling had taken place, the difference in their assigned roles was glaring, and it was clear that the impact would reach Se-heon as well.

“That must be uncomfortable for you.”

With their father overseeing a prime subsidiary and his elder son achieving significant results, the atmosphere at those gatherings must have been unbearable. Jin Gyu-min didn’t need to be there to know it.

When Se-heon didn’t respond, Jin Gyu-min let the topic drop. There was no need to push further when it was obvious Se-heon had no interest in discussing it. Instead, he shifted to the real reason he had called him here.

The nurse had mentioned that after receiving the confirmation of Yoon Tae-seo’s pregnancy, Se-heon had left without another word. That was something Jin Gyu-min needed to address.

“You’re the father, right?”

“Yes.”

“So, the ‘landlord’ thing was bullshit, huh?”

“That was also true.”

Since Jin Gyu-min didn’t know the full details, he scoffed at Se-heon’s response.

“When you put it like that, you sound like a complete bastard. You, the landlord, got the quiet and well-mannered Tae-seo pregnant—”

“It happened once. Tae-seo was suffering through his heat cycle, and he reached out first. It wasn’t a relationship, just one night, so there was no ‘us’ to begin with. And as for being his landlord, Tae-seo had nowhere to go, so I let him stay at my place. That part wasn’t a lie.”

Se-heon’s succinct explanation made Jin Gyu-min frown. So, he hadn’t deliberately brought Tae-seo into his home only to get him pregnant.

“Wait. Heat cycle?”

“Yes.”

Jin Gyu-min’s expression changed as things began clicking into place. He recalled the night Se-heon had called him for a sedative. At the time, Jin Gyu-min had complained about being sent on an errand in the middle of the night, but since sedatives required a doctor’s prescription, he had gone along with it.

“So that sedative was for Tae-seo?”

Now that he knew the timeframe, he could pinpoint the exact night the pregnancy had occurred.

“So you’re saying it was a one-night stand? And that’s supposed to mean you two have ‘nothing’ between you?”

A one-night stand wasn’t the same as being strangers. There was a connection, however brief.

“Tae-seo and I already discussed this.”

“Then what exactly was he to you?”

“If I had to define it, he was someone I couldn’t ignore.”

Se-heon thought back to Tae-seo. After that night, when they had unexpectedly run into each other at the hotel, he could have just walked away. But instead, he had spoken to Tae-seo, asking whether he was really going to marry Kang In-hyuk. When Tae-seo took his phone number, Se-heon had handed it over without hesitation—even though, in hindsight, it made no sense. He had never given his personal number to someone after a one-night stand before. Usually, he preferred to cut ties immediately, avoiding the hassle of further entanglements.

But it hadn’t ended there.

Se-heon had also been curious about why Tae-seo hid his pheromones, why he smiled at young girls as if suppressing his identity as an Omega, and why he had sat alone at the hotel restaurant, scanning the menu. The impulse to sit across from him still didn’t make sense, even now. That night, Tae-seo had no idea, but Se-heon had canceled a meeting just to stay.

And later, when Tae-seo had shown up at his house—Se-heon had let him in.

“You cared enough to escort him to the hospital like royalty?”

It wasn’t just taking him in. Se-heon had suddenly called, demanded an appointment, and taken care of everything without missing a single detail. Even as Jin Gyu-min voiced his disbelief, Se-heon remained unmoved.

“Fine, let’s say he was someone you couldn’t ignore. So now he’s pregnant from that one night, and you’re saying you’ll take responsibility? Are you going to marry him?”

“I have to.”

For everything else, Se-heon had spoken in vague, indifferent terms, but the moment marriage was mentioned, his answer was sharp and immediate. His decisiveness made Jin Gyu-min even more confused.

“Why?”

From what he knew, Se-heon wasn’t someone who obsessed over lineage, nor did he have a particular fixation on appearances. He had always treated relationships like flowing water—if the right person appeared, he would marry, but if not, he wasn’t in any rush.

“It was driving me insane thinking about him. But once I considered marriage, I felt at peace.”

The corner of Se-heon’s lips curled slightly at the thought of putting his name on Tae-seo.

“You bastard...”

Jin Gyu-min felt an urge to curse but swallowed it back.

That’s not just ‘caring’ about him. That’s interest. That’s liking him.

“You seriously don’t think you like him?”

“If I did, we would have dated. I didn’t even know he’d get pregnant.”

“So, basically...”

Jin Gyu-min struggled to piece things together, but it was a challenge.

“This is insane.”

He had no idea where to even begin pointing out what had gone wrong. From what he could tell, Se-heon clearly had some level of feelings for Tae-seo. But because of his personality—his unwillingness to make easy declarations—he hadn’t admitted to himself that he actually liked him.

Se-heon’s hesitation wasn’t necessarily indecisiveness; it was just how he was. He didn’t define things unless he was absolutely sure. But how the hell was Jin Gyu-min supposed to explain that?

Just as he was sifting through his thoughts, Se-heon suddenly stood up.

“Huh? Where are you going?”

“Tae-seo texted me.”

Se-heon briefly flashed his phone screen before walking away without another word. Jin Gyu-min, left behind, stared in disbelief.

“...It was just a ‘what are you doing’ text.”

It had been so short that he had easily caught a glimpse of it. It was the kind of casual, passing message anyone might send to check in. And yet, Se-heon had reacted like it was some kind of urgent invitation.

He said it’s just ‘someone he couldn’t ignore’...

Jin Gyu-min let out a slow exhale.

“...He’s completely hooked on Tae-seo.”

Tae-seo sat on a bench at school, tapping his foot against the ground absentmindedly.

One simple text—What are you doing?—had led to an immediate call from Se-heon, who had bluntly asked where he was. And now, here he was, waiting on a bench.

“I’m scared to text him now.”

He had sent the message with the intention of arranging a meeting, but he hadn’t expected such an immediate and direct response.

The sun had already set, and the school grounds were dimly lit by scattered streetlights. A few students lingered, but most had already gone home. Tae-seo watched the occasional passerby for a while before lowering his gaze again.

Just then, a pair of polished shoes stepped into his line of sight, right in front of his sneakers. Without looking up, Tae-seo opened his mouth.

“I had something I wanted to ask you.”

“How many questions?”

“If I can ask all night, I might.”

Tae-seo shrugged with a small grin. There was a lot on his mind. When Se-heon sat down beside him, they both faced forward in silence.

“Go ahead.”

It was a simple invitation—he would listen. Tae-seo pressed his lips together, deciding where to start.

“What’s your family planning situation?”

The question was so casual that Se-heon answered immediately.

“Yoon Tae-seo, the baby, and me.”

Hearing his own name spoken so firmly made Tae-seo flinch. It wasn’t as if he had agreed to have the baby yet... but then again, he had come here to talk to Se-heon in order to make that decision.

Tae-seo moved on to his next question.

“You don’t even like me. Are you really okay with marrying me?”

That night, during his heat cycle, Se-heon had done everything he could to help him, even calling in a doctor. But he had been the one to ask Se-heon to hold him. That was something he needed to acknowledge.

“I feel like I just heard that question earlier...”

Se-heon muttered, sounding unimpressed.

Jin Gyu-min had interrogated him in much the same way. But even then, Se-heon hadn’t hesitated to answer—because he had already figured things out in his own head.

“Saying I ‘like’ you would be a lie. I didn’t fall for you at first sight, and I’ve never had some ideal type in mind. Falling for someone is both easy and difficult at the same time.”

“You’re being vague on purpose.”

“But I was curious about you. I wondered if you were really Kang In-hyuk’s fiancé, and I wanted to know why you hid your pheromones. Even now, there are times I want to crack open your head and see what’s inside. It makes no sense how you can be so clueless and yet so sharp at the same time.”

“Wow. You’re talking like I’m some kind of alien.”

“You’re unusual.”

That was how Se-heon had come to define Tae-seo—an oddity. Someone he couldn’t look away from.

“And you want to marry someone like that?”

“I just realized that I could marry someone like you. Yeah, we got tangled up because of the baby, but the idea of living with you didn’t seem bad.”

What had influenced him most was the time they had spent together under the same roof. Those days had been good.

“I didn’t think you were this easy. You told me not to read into what happened that night, and now you’re agreeing to marriage so easily?”

Tae-seo reminded him of the conversation they had the morning after his heat cycle. Se-heon seemed to drift into thought for a moment, as if reminiscing.

“...Yeah. I did say that.”

“Well, that’s it, then. If you’re willing to marry me, it’s over. How does it feel to be pushed around by a little fetus?”

A quiet laugh slipped from between Se-heon’s lips.

“...Not bad.”
