The Omega Is Pregnant-Chapter 88
“We haven’t gone into the exam room yet.”
While Tae-seo was on the phone with Yoon Seok-hoon, Kang Se-heon quietly looked around the hallway. A few couples were scattered about, waiting for their appointments, and some of them clearly recognized them. Even the passing nurses stole glances. Now that the story had spread nationwide, the stares were much more blatant than before.
“What time does the meeting start?”
Tae-seo tapped Se-heon’s phone with his fingertip, holding his own up to his ear. Glancing at the time on the screen, he refocused on the call.
“Then let’s talk after your meeting. Yeah. Okay. Bye.”
He spun Se-heon’s phone in his hand as he ended the call.
“Did you get a new phone?”
Since Se-heon’s model looked just like his own, he immediately noticed the change.
“It’s the new one we’re about to launch. I’ve been carrying it around for testing.”
“It’s pretty.”
“Just pretty?”
“Well, aside from looking different from the previous model...”
Tae-seo turned the phone over in his hands again. Was it lighter? He couldn’t quite pinpoint anything specific. Just as he was inspecting it, his own phone started ringing.
“Calling again.”
It was the third time already while they were waiting. This time, Tae-seo used the excuse that he’d be going into the exam room soon and quickly hung up, sighing.
“Can you hold onto my phone for a bit?”
“Are they calling because they’re curious about the gender?”
“That too... but they also said we should come together next time, and they want me to pick up more supplements while I’m here. And since they never know when meetings will end, they keep calling just in case I leave the clinic before then.”
That’s why he was getting more calls than usual today.
“Your parents are really involved.”
“I think it’s because we’re apart.”
Tae-seo responded after hesitating over the unusually frequent contact. He was doing fine—it wasn’t something to worry so much about...
“Yoon Tae-seo, please come in.”
A nurse opened the exam room door herself and called his name. As if waiting for the cue, Tae-seo got up.
“Let’s go.”
Back straight, fists clenched tightly, Tae-seo marched forward, and Se-heon barely managed to hold back a laugh.
Was finding out the gender really something to walk into like a general heading to war?
****
“We’ll start by listening to the heartbeat.”
At the doctor’s prompt, Blessing’s heartbeat echoed loudly throughout the exam room. The explanation that a baby’s heart beats faster came to mind. The sound was so strong, it felt like Tae-seo’s own heart was beating in sync. He instinctively raised a hand to press lightly over his chest.
“Very healthy. Let’s take a look at the screen now.”
As the doctor turned down the heartbeat volume, both Tae-seo and Se-heon fixed their eyes on the ultrasound monitor.
“This is the left hand... here’s the thumb... one, two, three, four, five. See? All five fingers are open. And over here is the right hand.”
Following the doctor’s explanation of the hands and feet, they both watched intently. Then, Tae-seo’s eyes narrowed as he focused on a particular spot on the screen.
“Mothers usually notice it first with their second child... but here, do you see it? Wonder who he’s going to take after. No matter who he looks like, he’s going to be one handsome baby.”
The doctor’s hint made Tae-seo’s mouth fall open slightly.
So Blessing is a boy.

At the reception desk, Tae-seo ran into an unexpected dilemma. It wasn’t life-or-death, but still not something he could answer easily.
“Whose card should I use?”
One was from his father. The other was from Se-heon hyung.
If he used one, the other might feel left out.
“Since Se-heon hyung gets jealous easily, maybe I should use his card today... but Dad really wanted to come to the appointment...”
He’d been disappointed he couldn’t come because of his meeting.
“Then maybe I should use Dad’s card and tell him the baby’s gender? Ugh, why am I overthinking something so trivial?”
Hearing his muttering, a nurse assisting another patient at the counter bit back a smile. His face was so serious, but the nature of the dilemma was so silly, it made him seem all the more endearing.
And one more person, overhearing Tae-seo’s muttering, shook his head.
“So that’s why he insisted on paying.”
No wonder he’d said, I’ll take care of the bill myself.
While Se-heon was chuckling to himself in resignation, Tae-seo’s phone—still in his hand—started vibrating. The caller ID read ‘Dad.’ Se-heon stepped forward to hand it over, but the call ended before he could reach Tae-seo.
“...Is he calling because he wants to know the gender? Or just because he wants to hear Tae-seo’s voice... or maybe both?”
Mumbling to himself, Se-heon glanced down at the phone—and froze when he saw the wallpaper.
“Using my photo as his background is sweet and all...”
But something about the specific picture made Se-heon frown slightly.
“...Why this one, though?”
The photo had been taken the day Tae-seo first came to Se-heon’s place—when he’d threatened him to let him stay for “just a few days.” Se-heon looked at the expression full of irritation in the picture and muttered to himself.
Tae-seo, who had come up beside him without him noticing, said,
“That’s the one I like the most.”
He took his phone from Se-heon and looked at the photo of him.
“What do you even like about it?”
“All the others make you look too handsome. The photos in the articles, the ones that come up when I search your name, and even the face standing right here in front of me—they’re all too good-looking.”
“That’s a really nice compliment, but somehow it feels weird.”
“Well, whatever. It’s my phone. As long as I like it—oh!”
He had been brushing it off, but suddenly raised his head as if something occurred to him. Worried it might be a cramp, Se-heon gently touched his face, checking him over.
“What is it? Are you in pain?”
“No, it’s not that.”
Tae-seo stretched out his arm, holding up his phone. At some point, he’d already opened the camera app and was lining up a shot of both of them. Se-heon furrowed his brow, giving him a what is this now? kind of look, but Tae-seo shamelessly faced the camera and flashed a V-sign.
“Taking it. One, two...”
No three.
The screen froze for a moment as the shutter clicked, then returned to live view.
Tae-seo lowered the phone and smiled in satisfaction at the result. “This one’s not bad.” As he started forwarding it to several people, Se-heon grumbled, clearly displeased.
“You’re just going to snap my face like that? And who are you sending it to?”
Tae-seo had rushed the countdown on purpose, robbing Se-heon of the time to prepare—so of course the picture came out worse than in person.
“My parents, your parents, and Grandpa.”
“...Why?”
Se-heon genuinely couldn’t understand. Wasn’t a photo of the two of them something to keep between the two of them?
“I think I’ve been too caught up in my own thoughts. I was wondering why they kept calling today when they usually don’t even check in that often. Do they really care that much about Blessing’s gender? I kept thinking that...”
He °• N 𝑜 v 𝑒 l i g h t •° looked over at Se-heon, still holding the phone.
“But my dad only asked about me. Is it hard waiting? Did you buy your supplements? Let’s go together next time. I’ll take care of everything. That’s all he said.”
Talking about the background photo of Se-heon brought back memories of his parents’ faces when he’d returned home after leaving. How they’d looked at him—with such visible relief, and such overwhelming worry.
“Even though I came with their permission this time, I think... they just miss me. So I told them the gender and sent the photo too.”
Se-heon, touched, reached out and gently patted Tae-seo’s head.
“Still, my face is all over the internet. It’s not like it matters.”
“You really don’t get it. I’m sure they’ll like this kind of random, casual photo even more. The more ‘unflattering,’ the better—especially Grandpa.”
Tae-seo sounded so confident that Se-heon didn’t bother denying it. After all, it wasn’t like any of them were obsessively collecting his photos. No point in ruining the mood.
“Got a reply.”
At the buzz, Tae-seo immediately looked down at his phone.
“Knew it—they loved it. Look.”
He handed the phone to Se-heon. Despite their busy schedules, everyone had responded.
“I figured they were all waiting.”
After replying to each person, Tae-seo looked up at Se-heon with a proud smile. Then, still beaming, he pulled out the ultrasound photo he’d received from the nurse.
“Since we took a photo of Blessing and one of us too, I’m going to remember today for the rest of my life.”
His words were laced with happiness. Se-heon was about to smile back when something occurred to him. He glanced between the ultrasound photo and the phone in Tae-seo’s hand... and then smiled deeply.
“Yeah... even an ordinary day like this, when you look back later, ends up feeling really special.”
As he murmured to himself, Tae-seo held up the ultrasound so it showed clearly and took a picture of his own face. Then he shifted slightly, angling the phone so Se-heon could fit into the frame too—only to stop and turn with a curious look.
Since when had he been taking photos of me?
“Tae-seo.”
Se-heon’s warm voice made Tae-seo’s heart skip a beat.
“Wanna look here and say something?”
The sweetness in his eyes made Tae-seo feel like his heart might stop.
Infected by Se-heon’s gentle mood, Tae-seo’s face broke into a joyful smile. He lightly waved the ultrasound photo.
“Today, we got Blessing’s picture taken. I should go buy some clothes that’ll suit him.”
Speaking to the camera, Tae-seo made Se-heon laugh softly.
“You gonna buy blue ones?”
“Hmm...”

Tae-seo looked at the ultrasound photo for a moment, then shook his head.
“I’ll get blue, yellow, pink... I think green tones would look nice too. And obviously, we have to have some clean white ones. Maybe we should just go with full rainbow?”
He just wanted to buy everything that was cute.
Just thinking about it made Tae-seo’s smile brighten the entire screen.
