Wei Zilin paused and turned around to look at Zheng Yuntong. His gaze almost made her heart stop for a bit, and then he said slowly, “There isn’t much we need to work overtime for lately, and I’ll try to not give Assistant Shen any OT either. That way, the two of you can spend more time together.

Zheng Yuntong, “…”

‘Boss, you’re being real considerate, but you saying that makes me feel all uneasy! O(≧口≦)O’

After Wei Zilin left, Xu Moyan silently kept the slippers Wei Zilin had used in a separate compartment, deciding never to let anyone else use them.

Zheng Yuntong ran up to her, catching Xu Moyan and saying, “What was that? Why was Boss here?”

Xu Moyan pretended to be calm as she said, “Didn’t I tell you? He came over tonight for dinner.”

“No, you never told me anything like that! Even though it’s so important!” Zheng Yuntong’s eyes shone excitedly. “If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come back so soon!”

Xu Moyan laughed at her, teasing, “Yeah, why don’t you just stay at Shen Zongyi’s place next time?”

“What are you saying?!” Zheng Yuntong blushed and immediately let go. “You two sure are progressing quickly!”

“Don’t think too much of it.” Xu Moyan took Wei Zilin’s cup and washed it. “I just made the pu’er tea and we barely drank any of it. It’d be a waste to just throw it out, so do you want some?”

“Sure, I guess,” Zheng Yuntong said as she brought her cup over. “But don’t change the subject. I can’t believe you didn’t tell me something so important.”

Xu Moyan filled Zheng Yuntong’s cup with tea. “I didn’t hide it from you on purpose, I just forgot to tell you. Last night, we only talked about you and Shen Zongyi.”

Mentioning Shen Zongyi’s name was the easiest way to distract Zheng Yuntong.

Right now, Zheng Yuntong would end up over the moon at the mere mention of his name.

“Fine, I’ll let this go for now.” Zheng Yuntong held her cup and drank a sip of hot tea. She had just returned from the cold outdoors, and having a cup of hot tea now was bliss. “But the two of you seem pretty close now.”

“I guess.” Xu Moyan could not help but smile too. “I didn’t think I’d get so many chances to interact with him. It’s a pleasant surprise, but I can never be myself around him, and I keep embarrassing myself.”

Zheng Yuntong scratched her head. “I guess that’s just something that happens when you’re facing someone you like. I have the same problem too, so I can’t help you. Still, things are looking pretty good now. I really don’t see the boss getting along with a woman this well! I mean, he even came to your place. I think you stand a chance here, seriously!”

“You say it like you know everything. Well, do you know where he goes after work?” Xu Moyan laughed, poking the back of her hand.

“Hey, I don’t know what Boss does after work, fine, but believe me, I’ve been at the company for quite some time now! I know what he’s like. He seems all nice and friendly to you, and he looks like he doesn’t have a temper, but this is my first time seeing him like this in all my years! He treats every woman like he does Liang Wenyin. She isn’t the exception, you are. You got this in the bag, I mean it!” Zheng Yuntong said solemnly, and she even nodded hard.

Xu Moyan picked up her cup, but then she remembered how she had cleaned and kept the cup Wei Zilin just used. With a little regret, she pervertedly thought she should have just used his cup instead.

“I hope you’re right,” Xu Moyan said. She seemed to have fallen into a strange loop. She had some hopes, and she wanted to go for it, but she was scared and worried that she would lose even what little hope she had now. That was why she took two steps forth and then carefully stopped again.

“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely keep an eye on his every move for you when we’re in the company.” Zheng Yuntong yawned as she said that, going to the washroom to remove her make-up.

“Ease up on that, or else Shen Zongyi might get jealous.” Xu Moyan teased her before returning to her room.

She turned on her Weibo. There were a lot of things she wanted to say, but she did not know where to start. She was a little excited, but also a little nervous. After all, she had dinner with Wei Zilin, and he stayed for a long while. To be honest, she was ecstatic.

Since she did not know what to say, she went to Wei Zilin’s Weibo and saw that he actually had a new post.

Yu Linling: Two people and four dishes. It was very warm, like a home. Small happinesses bring about great satisfaction. I hope every day will be like this one.

Underneath the words, he had posted the picture he took at dinner earlier, the one with her chopsticks and fingertips in the top left corner.

Xu Moyan’s heart pounded, and she felt like Wei Zilin’s words lured her into inevitably thinking of something more. Hopefully, this was not a misunderstanding.

She almost had the urge to confess to Wei Zilin right there.

When she clicked on the comments, she immediately saw the passionate fans’ cries.

“OMG, is my liege actually dating someone now?”

“Tell me I’m not the only one who thinks the fingers in the top right are a girl’s! Right?!”

“You were complaining about being single yesterday, and today you’re taken? My liege, could you give us some time to breathe here?”

“I keep feeling like those fingers look a little familiar.”

Xu Moyan’s gaze was fixed on that last comment. No one could be that perceptive, right?

“Moyan, I’m coming in!” Just then, Zheng Yuntong shouted from outside the door.

Xu Moyan let her in, and before her voice could even stop ringing in the former’s eyes, Zheng Yuntong was already holding up her phone excitedly. “Look! This is a confession, isn’t it?”

Xu Moyan looked at it and saw that it was Wei Zilin’s Weibo post.

“I went to sneak a peek at the boss’ Weibo, but I didn’t think I’d see something so shocking. Other people can’t tell, but you ain’t fooling me. Isn’t that our cutlery?” Zheng Yuntong’s eyes were practically shining.

“Urk, you think so too? So I’m not overthinking things.” Xu Moyan said uncertainly, “But I’m worried you’re not objective enough. You always wanna match Wei Zilin and me together, so you’d naturally gravitate towards that.”

“No way, don’t you see that all the comments think so too? I’m definitely not the only one.” Zheng Yuntong glanced at the phone in Xu Moyan’s hands. “So you’re looking at it too. Do you want me to log into my alt account and join in the fun?”

“Please don’t.” Xu Moyan was feeling somewhat melancholic. “If it’s true, I’d probably lose my mind out of sheer joy. Never mind, what will be, will be.”

However, things did not go as smoothly as Xu Moyan thought they would. The next few days, Wei Zilin seemed to be especially busy, and even Shen Zongyi had to stay with him in the office after hours. Zheng Yuntong was better off as she did not have to stay back as often as Shen Zongyi did, but there were still many days when she could not come home for dinner.

Finally, there was one day she did not have to stay for overtime, but she ended up coming home alone.

Xu Moyan was clearing up in the kitchen, and she casually asked, “Why did you come back alone? Does Assistant Shen need to work overtime again?”

“Yeah, we’ve been swamped lately. The annual consumer day show is next month, right? They name and shame a few international brands every year, dealing a blow or two even if there’s no real truth behind it. Our company handles PR for a few foreign brands, including that car manufacturing company that starts with an M. Wasn’t there a quality issue at the end of last year that ended in a huge recall? That company is worried that the consumer day show will target them this year, so they asked us to prepare in advance.”

Zheng Yuntong stretched her arms. “It doesn’t matter if the late evening CCTV show will call them out or not. Since the client requested it, we gotta list out every possible outcome and solution anyway, so we can keep the client happy. And since it’s a major client, the boss has to personally handle it.”

Zheng Yuntong picked up a freshly-fried tater tot and bit into it, but it was so hot that she threw her head back and stretched out her tongue.

After a while, she continued, “That’s not all. It just so happens that the pair of celebs whose affair made the news lately came to our company for crisis management too. Also, that make-up brand that starts with an H recently made headlines because some of the chemicals in their products were found to be higher than acceptable levels. That’s had a huge impact, and it practically influenced their sales all across Asia, so they came to our company for emergency PR too. That’s why we’ve been so crazy busy. But it’s almost settled, the only thing is we don’t know if we can handle everything before Valentine’s Day. You know, it’s my first time celebrating this particular holiday, so I really look forward to it.”

Lin Yi had been swamped with work lately, and Wei Zilin had mentioned it to her over WeChat too. As for what that work actually entailed, he never said. Since it was related to his work, Xu Moyan did not know if there was any sensitive information involved, so she never really asked either.

Still, on the third day after Wei Zilin came by for dinner, she received a WeChat voicemail from him that said sadly, “I might be really busy lately, so I won’t have time to drop by for soup dumplings.”

As though afraid she would misunderstand and think he was making excuses, Wei Zilin also added, “I’ll visit you once this busy spell is over.”

He spoke as though talking to his lover.

Xu Moyan did not point that out, but thanks to Wei Zilin’s explanation, she did not think the worst.

On Friday, February 13th, Zheng Yuntong bought a lot of chocolates and brought them home after work.

Xu Moyan got off work later than she did today, so when she came home, she saw the mountain of chocolate on the dinner table. “Why did you buy so much chocolate? Didn’t Shen Zongyi go out on a business trip?”
