Chapter 34: 034 As long as I’m here, what are you afraid of? (Second Update)
Yelu Yan looked down at Li Xianyun, whose starry eyes were so beautiful. Her timid appearance made one want to protect her, yet also tease her.
He had never felt this way before.
Yelu Yan gazed at her autumn-water-like eyes and let out a light chuckle, saying, “Do you intend to tear Khan’s clothes?”
Li Xianyun, staring at Yelu Yan’s smiling face, was suddenly stunned. It was her first time seeing him laugh.
When Yelu Yan laughed, he would reveal two rows of neat, pearly white teeth, his brows relaxed, his whole being radiant.
He really did look good when he laughed.
Seeing her dazed and lost in thought, Yelu Yan gestured with his eyes.
Only then did Li Xianyun look at her small hand. She was holding on tightly to Yelu Yan’s lapel. She might have been a bit forceful since the lapel was somewhat crumpled, but it was far from being torn as he exaggerated. How could she possibly tear it?
She released her grip, looked away, and said, “Let me down, Your Grace. It’s not good to be seen by others.”

Yelu Yan, his lips curving upward, pressed his toes against the ground and leapt into the air, holding her close.
Li Xianyun, unaccustomed to such experiences, cried out in alarm, closed her eyes, and clutched Yelu Yan’s lapel without care, pressing her little head against him.
One could feel the smoothness of her forehead against Yelu Yan’s aqua-colored chin, just like that of porcelain.
The two were so close that Yelu Yan’s body stiffened for a moment.
He looked ahead, his deep-set eyes trembling, feelings sprouting in his heart like never before.
Yelu Yan carried her horizontally and steadily landed on the high tower at the center of Qingyan Pool.
The top of the tower featured octagonal eaves with blue bricks and green tiles, both beautiful and flat, suitable for people to lie or sit upon.
Yelu Yan placed Li Xianyun gently down, one arm around her back and the other supporting her arm, waiting for her to stand stably before he said, “You may open your eyes now.”
At his words, Li Xianyun peeked out from one eye to survey her surroundings, only to find herself on top of a three-story tower. Her legs grew weak, and she clutched Yelu Yan’s sturdy arm tightly, nearly on the verge of tears, trembling as she said, “Khan, please take me down, I beg you.”
Yelu Yan looked down at her lively little face and laughed, saying, “With Khan here, what is there to fear?”
He paused, then added, “Open your eyes and just take a look around. If you still insist on going down, Khan won’t stop you.”
“Won’t I fall? What if I slip?” Li Xianyun kept her eyes tightly shut as she spoke, still not reassured.
Yelu Yan laughed and said, “With Khan here, there’s nothing to fear, hmm?”
The “hmm” at the end of his sentence was utmost gentle, causing Li Xianyun’s heart to race wildly. Finally, she obediently nodded, her slender white hands gripping Yelu Yan’s arm tightly as she opened her eyes to take in the distant view.
They say when you climb high and gaze far, indeed it is so. Standing here not only allowed one to see Qingyan Pool in its entirety but also the distant pavilions and towers, green woods and bamboo groves, artificial mountains, and waterfalls—the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful.
Li Xianyun’s slightly furrowed brows gradually relaxed, and her expression eased considerably.
Meanwhile, Yelu Yan’s gaze remained fixed upon her palm-sized face, watching every change and smiling as he bowed and said, “Still want to go down?”
Li Xianyun looked up at him, he was so close, almost as if either of them leaning forward would bring their lips together.
Feeling shy, Li Xianyun said, “Can you help me sit down?”
Standing like this didn’t offer many stable points to maintain balance, and she felt that a moment’s inattention might cause her to fall.
Although Li Xianyun was very clear in her mind that Yelu Yan wouldn’t let her fall, the fear in her heart still compelled her to be extraordinarily cautious.
“Alright.”
Yelu Yan said, aiding her to slowly sit down.
Li Xianyun unavoidably came into contact with his robe, her entire small face blushing furiously, without needing to think, she knew her face must be embarrassingly red.
She couldn’t help feeling relieved that it was night, for if it had been daytime, would she not have wanted to find a hole to crawl into after being seen by Yelu Yan?
After sitting down, Li Xianyun raised her hands to tidy her dress, curved her legs, and wrapped her arms around them lightly, a picture of cuteness and obedience.
Seeing her seated, Yelu Yan also sat down beside her, one leg cocked, the other stretched out, exuding a wild aura.
Li Xianyun observed the surroundings and indeed, just as Yelu Yan had said, this place was an excellent vantage point.
All of the Imperial Palace’s beautiful sights were visible at a glance.
The quiet around them was only occasionally broken by the low flight of bats and the sporadic chirping of tired birds; everything was so serene and beautiful.
Facing such scenery, all worries seemed to float away into the clouds, lightening her mood.
Yelu Yan supported himself with both hands, leaning back slightly, gazing at Li Xianyun’s delicate and lovely silhouette.
“Feeling better?” Yelu Yan broke the silence to ask.
Li Xianyun turned to look at him and answered, “Much better, thank you.”
The tenderness of that moment somehow struck a chord in Yelu Yan’s heart, causing his heartbeat to quicken without notice, a sense of joy accumulating in his chest without finding an outlet.
Li Xianyun tilted her head to gaze at the ink-blue sky, where the moon shone brightly and only a few stars twinkled, occasionally veiled by light wisps of cloud drifting across.
“Would you like to lie down and see?”
When Li Xianyun turned her head, she saw Yelu Yan already lying on the roof, his arms cushioning his head, not looking at her but staring into the vast sky.
Li Xianyun hesitated for a moment, then took off her cloak, before she could spread it out, a large hand took it from her.
Yelu Yan spread the cloak behind her and at the top, folded it several times so that it would cushion her head from the cold.
Li Xianyun had not expected Yelu Yan, who seemed rough and wild, to be so intricately thoughtful and gentle.
After Yelu Yan had done this, he said, “Lie down.”
Li Xianyun gave an “Mhm,” lowered her head, raised her pale hands to gather her waist-length hair gently to her chest, and slowly lay down.
Such an experience of lying down and looking at the vast night sky was truly endless enjoyment.
Seeing her comfortably positioned, Yelu Yan also lay down next to her.
Li Xianyun turned her head and saw Yelu Yan lying about a foot away from her, neither too far nor too close, making her feel not the slightest discomfort but rather a sense of security instead.
Their gazes inadvertently met.
Yelu Yan asked while watching her, “What’s wrong?”
Li Xianyun hastily turned her head and picked a random topic, “Khan, do you come here often?”
Yelu Yan, resting his head on his arms and surveying the sky, seemed to be lost in thought for a moment before replying, “I come here when I’m feeling down.”
Li Xianyun glanced at him, astonished that someone as powerful as him could also feel down.
