The Princess And The Lord-Chapter 1423: Brother and Sister
Chapter 1423: Brother and Sister
Lory stared at her brother’s face for a long, silent moment. So much time had passed, years slipping away like grains of sand, as they were separated by time and space. And yet, despite everything, Lucas’s appearance hadn’t changed much.
Blessed with powerful, gifted abilities, their kind could maintain their youthful looks far longer than most. To the world, they still looked as if they were in their mid-twenties. But inside... Lory felt centuries old. Weary. Tired. And yet—somehow, still hopeful.
She couldn’t begin to imagine what Lucas had endured during all those years apart. The crushing loneliness he must have felt. The guilt he likely carried, as heavy and relentless as her own... perhaps even more.
Lory considered herself fortunate. She had found her soulmate, Zhao Li Xin. His presence made her burdens lighter, her struggles more bearable. But Lucas... Lucas was still alone.
After all these years, he had yet to find his mate. The thought gnawed at her heart. What if his soulmate was in another world, as hers had been? What if Lucas was destined to wait endlessly, never knowing the warmth and quiet strength a true partner could bring?
She knew Fargo, Fred, Jay, and Clift would always stand faithfully by his side. But some things... some pains and fears could only ever be shared with the one person who was your other half.
Without that, no matter how surrounded you were, there would always be a hollow ache—an emptiness only love could fill.
Lory held his palm tightly and sighed, "What should I do with you, Luc?" She rested her head on the bed while momentarily closing her eyes. She actually still feels a bit tired, but she cannot sleep, not when she still worries about her brothers.
Suddenly, she felt a tug on her grip. Lory was startled for a second, then immediately raised her head. Lucas’s brows knitted tightly, his eyelids moved as if struggling to open his eyes. Lory immediately sat on the bed and examined Luc’s face.
"Luc...luc, wake up, come on, wake up," she urged him softly.
After what felt like an eternity, Luc finally able to open his eyelids, though his vision was hazy, his body heavy and aching as though he’d been running for days without rest.
Every muscle throbbed with exhaustion, but he didn’t have the luxury to dwell on it—not when that voice... that voice sounded so achingly familiar.
This can’t be real. He’s dreaming again. He must be!
"Lo...ry..." he struggled to form the words, his throat dry and weak.
"Hey, Luc, I’m here... can you see me?" Lory’s gentle voice trembled as she waved her hand in front of his eyes.
Lucas blinked sluggishly, still lost in a fog. "You’re... back?" he whispered, almost afraid the sound of his own voice would shatter the fragile vision.
"Yeah, I’m back, Luc!" Lory pressed his hand against her tear-streaked cheek, clutching it as though she’d never let go again.
The warmth of her skin seeped into his palm, startling him. He blinked rapidly, trying to clear his sight. Slowly, the blurriness faded—and there she was. Her face, her eyes—red and glistening with unshed tears—so vivid it struck him to his very core.
"Lory? H - how....?" His lips parted in disbelief, but no further words came. He blinked again, harder this time, expecting her to vanish like all the other times he’d dreamed of her.
But when he opened his eyes, she was still there. And then, as her tears spilled freely and dropped onto his face, he knew—this wasn’t a dream.
"Am I dreaming...?" His voice cracked, louder now.
"No, you stupid!" Her answer came out choked with emotion.
His hand cupped her cheeks as if to anchor her in reality. "Sister...?" he said again, as if repeating her name could make up for all the times he hadn’t been able to say it.
"It’s me, brother!" Lory laughed through her tears, her shoulders shaking. freewebnøvel_com
"Are you real? You’re back!" A sob tore from his chest as he pulled her into his arms with all the strength his broken body could muster.
"Yes, I’m back!" She held him back.
When Fredhardt woke from his deep sleep, his eyes fluttered open to the sight of Lory and Lucas embracing tightly. For a moment, he blinked in surprise, then shot up from the couch—but realization washed over him like a spring breeze.
Lucas... is awake.
A smile tugged at Fredhardt’s lips as he watched the two siblings cry and hold each other. The scene stirred a memory, years ago, when Lory’s powers first awakened and went out of control. Back then, after she was safe, they’d clung to each other just like this... crying, laughing, trembling.
Pulling out his phone, Fredhardt dialed a number. After a few rings, Fargo’s voice answered lazily.
"Hey, Luc is awake," Fredhardt said simply.
There was a sharp click as the call ended abruptly, followed by muffled sounds of movement on the other end. Fredhardt chuckled, shaking his head, then began dialing Jay and Clift next.
Moments later, the door slammed open.
Fargo burst in, his chest heaving as if he’d run the entire way. His eyes locked on Lucas, who had just pulled away from Lory, still blinking in disbelief.
"Hi, Fargy, did I make you wait too long?" Lucas said with a wide grin.
Fargo’s face twisted—caught between laughter and tears—as he strode over in long, urgent steps. Then his expression hardened.
"You finally woke up, you stupid King!" Fargo scolded, his voice cracking slightly.
"Yeah..." Lucas replied sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. His gaze drifted back to Lory, almost as if he still wasn’t sure she was real. "What... happened?" he asked at last.
Fredhardt approached leisurely, hands in his pockets. "Rest first. We have plenty of time to talk."
"That’s right, Luc. I’m not going anywhere," Lory said reassuringly as she tucked the blanket around him.
Lucas hesitated but finally obeyed, leaning back into the pillows.
The door swung open again, this time with Jay and Clift storming in together.
"LUC!" they shouted in perfect unison.
Lucas turned his head and waved casually. "Hi guys~"
Their faces lit up like lanterns, and in the next instant, both men rushed him, enveloping him in a crushing hug.
"G-Guys... you’re heavy..." Lucas groaned as the two grown men pinned him down on the mattress. He weakly patted their backs in defeat. "H-Hey... I... can’t... breathe..."
Fredhardt rolled his eyes and barked at them. "Alright, break it up, you two! Do you want our king to pass out again?" He shot Lucas a wicked grin. "We can’t have him falling asleep again—not when he’s got a mountain of work waiting for him."
Lory’s eyes suddenly went wide. That’s right... Now that Lucas is awake... Her expression shifted instantly from worry to giddy excitement as she leapt off the bed, arms raised high in triumph.
"Yes! I can finally go on a date with Li Xin now!" she cheered.
"Eh? Who’s Li Xin?" Lucas frowned, still confused and slightly dazed.
But Lory was too caught up in her own excitement to notice. "Finally! A proper date with my sexy husband! Oh—what should we do first? I know - I know, we should watch a movie, first and then—"
Lucas’s entire body froze. His pale face twitched. "W-Wait... H-Husband?"
Fargo grinned devilishly. "Yeah! Don’t you know? Your sister’s a married woman now!" He raised his hands dramatically, "Ta-daa~!"
"M-MARRIED?!" Lucas’s voice cracked as all color drained from his face. His eyes rolled back as he collapsed limply against the pillows.
"Oh crap!" Fredhardt’s smirk vanished. "MEDIC! Somebody get the medic! THE KING’S DOWN AGAIN!"
"THE KING’S DOWN!" Clift echoed in alarm, his voice breaking.
"Nooo, LUC! Come back to us!" Jay cried out, shaking Lucas frantically.
Lory stood frozen for a moment, then panic surged through her again. "Luc! What happened?!" she exclaimed, reaching for him.
"Stand back! I’m gonna save him!" Fargo roared as he shoved everyone aside. "I’ll give the king CPR!"
He puckered his lips dramatically as he leaned in, his mouth barely an inch from Lucas’s, when all of a sudden, Lucas’s eyes snapped open. He saw Fargo’s thick lips hovering over him, and his survival instincts kicked in.
With a burst of energy, Lucas shot up and landed a solid punch square on Fargo’s jaw.
"I’M AWAKE!!" he yelled, his voice raw and furious.
Fargo staggered back, rubbing his bruised jaw—but instead of being angry, he looked oddly pleased. "Hah! If we knew it was that easy to wake him up, we should’ve tried this sooner."
Fredhardt looked at Lucas, who was now fully awake and fuming, then nodded thoughtfully. "Yeah... we really should have."
