The Princess Kidnapping System Made Me OP-Chapter 46: Questions and Revelations
Chapter 46: Questions and Revelations
Wise stared at Rosalind’s bruised figure as she lay vulnerable on the floor.
His mind was a mess of emotions and thoughts. What was going on? If she had always been the demon then why claim she was being hunted by one?
Wise had sensed her panic that day, he had smelled her fear. That was how he was sure she had not been lying.
And yet his eyes were telling him a different story.
There was still a single dark horn sticking out of her head, parts of her skin were still backed out with scales and her nails were black and rigid.
There was no denying it.
Wise took a step towards Rosalind, his heart torn with turmoil.
What had he done?
Although he had thought she was a demon, it didn’t change what had happened. He had mercilessly dealt with her, thinking she was the cause of Rosalind’s problems.
If she was truly the demon, that would mean she was responsible for the massacre just a few days back.
All that death, all the bloodshed would have been caused by her and her alone.
Wise refused to believe that Rosalind was capable of such a thing.
He froze in his step as Rosalind’s eyes suddenly snapped open, she stared up at the sky for some time before she suddenly looked in his direction.
Rising up with staggered movements, Rosalind began to walk towards him. She swayed to the side, almost losing her balance before catching herself.
Her movements were so weak that it was as though a small wind could easily destabilise her.
Crack!
Wise heard the sound of bubbling energy, just as a red ripple of energy flew forward, charging right at Rosalind.
Boom!
Hardening his forearm with his scales, Wise thwarted the attack to the side, the red wave of energy sent crashing into a nearby building and reducing it to rubble.
He snapped his head in Tyris’ direction.
"What the hell are you doing? Can’t you see she’s an Ork?!"
Tyris stared at him, her expression fraught with guilt. "That thing is no longer an Ork, she is one of the lost— she has been demonized."
Wise’s fists tightened by his sides. "What do you mean demonized?"
It was the first time he had heard such a term being used in this world.
Tyris sighed in annoyance, what she was about to tell him was no doubt a well guided secret and yet she had to make him understand.
"Demon and Ork made one, and it’s not only Orks, humans, elves... any race can be demonized."
’So Rosa was fused with a demon?’
"That makes no sense, how is it possible?"
Tyris shook her head. "We don’t know the specifics, all we know is that things like her cannot be allowed to live," She said, pointing at Rosa.
"Our best chance at killing it is now before it evolves once more."
’It?’ Just that word alone had degraded Rosa, placing her on the level of monsters and demons.
Tyris doubled down on her efforts to convince him, "Do you know how many people that thing has killed? The bar wasn’t the first incident!"
’What should I do?’
Wise’s thoughts were in disarray. Was there any way to cure her? Could she even be cured?
He was sure her mind was already broken to an extent at least, their conversation in the restaurant played over and over in his mind...
’Up until I died...’
Those had been Rosa’s words... Was the real hee gone? Had he been living with mere embers of her past self?
Was she a lost cause?
Tyris’ voice became a bit more solemn as she said the next part. "She is the product of forbidden research..."
Her words went into Wise’s ears but he didn’t not reply, instead, he continued to ponder.
What was the right move?
Was it to save her? What if he could not cure her? Would letting her suffer such a fate for rest of her life be fair?
"Primus, kill her now!"
"Shut up!"
A heavy oppressive aura suddenly descended onto the street, its force so overwhelming and primal that even the queen’s shadows found it hard to breathe.
It was as though a weight had been placed above their head and their limbs felt as stiff as iron.
They fell to a knee immediately the weight descended and gritted their teeth as they struggled to look above the ground.
Only Tyris was left standing, her face contorted in both anger and concern.
Because, Rosalind had finally reached Wise.
"Rosa?" Wise called out, searching her eyes.
There was no familiarity in those grey eyes, they were hollow and soulless like that of a doll.
She bumped into Wise and stared up at him, their eyes met but Rosa was too far gone for it to have any effect.
Her dry lips parted and she spoke, her voice raspy. "D-drink... Drink... Drink..." she repeated, her voice pleading and her eyes moist to the verge of tears.
And then she scratched her fingers against her throat drawing blood as her voice intensified. "DRINK, DRINK, DRINK!!!"
It was as though she had been overcome by a maddening thirst, one that could never be satisfied.
Then she suddenly stopped and stared at the ground, where a pool of what was her blood lay strewn on the street.
She hurried to her knees, about to scoop about a hand full of blood when Wise squatted down to stop her.
He held onto her slender wrists, wrists he had held onto just nights prior as they fooled around the city.
Wise’s voice broke as he spoke a single word. "No."
He could not bear to see her reduce herself to a monster, to see her in such a state would soil the image he had of her for eternity.
Rosalind paused and slowly looked up at the man who had stopped her drink. One of her eyes was crimson, the colour of blood and above that side of her face was the dark twisted horn.
But on the left side of her face were her grey hollow eyes, she watched him for a second, both of them unmoving, and then a lone tear slowly dripped down from her eye.
Rosa fell forward, her head falling against his chest.
This close wise could hear her heartbeat with perfect clarity, that was how he knew...
There was no saving Rosa.
Her heart sounded like two metal gears grinding against each other. The demonic transformation had weakened her already failing body and damaged her heart.
Her death was inevitable.
Wise let out a pained sigh as he watched the girl in his arms.
Someone had done this, and right there Wise vowed to make them pay, no matter the cost.
He gently lifted her head to face him and then asked, his voice fraught with pain, "Who did this to you?"
For a faint sliver of a second, Rosa’s eyes showed a faint glimmer of life.
"H...hero"
