Chapter 64: Ship Eater

"So Adeline’s monster has arrived?" Wise rose and walked to the edge of the ship, staring at the open sea.

About three hundred metres away from them, the water was being split apart as a creature changed toward their boat.

The monster was fully hidden by the water, leaving only one part of it above sea— a structure similar to a shimmering blue hook.

But that hook was all he needed to identify the monster.

Wise took a step back. "Is it too late to abandon this ship?"

Esme immediately turned to him. "What do you mean?"

"That is a Ship Eater, but you probably know it by its popular name, the Kraken."

The petite girl paled and let go of the railings. "A K-Kraken?!"

Krakens were some of the most powerful monsters in the sea. It was larger than Wise in his dragonic form and was known for eating ships whole.

"A Kraken?!" One of the passengers said, rising up to his feet and rushing to the edge of the boat to confirm it for himself. "My God, it’s a Kraken! Call the ocean guard!"

Other guests ran to the edge of the ship to take a look as well, panicked looks on their faces as they saw the beast.

’So it was the cause of the missing ship reports...’

’And by fouling her sea, Adeline was probably talking about the ship’s debris.’

"Can you beat a Kraken?" Daphne asked from beside him, watching the approaching creature warningly.

If he were a fully grown dragon, then it would be a breeze, but dragons his age could only use a fraction of their power.

Adeline would have known that his chances against this thing were slim. ’Is she trying to kill me?!’

Wise’s gaze sharpened. "We are going to find out today." He said, answering Daphne’s earlier question.

"Stand back!" A guard screamed as he shoved the people away to get access to the edge of the ship. "The ocean guard will now contain the situation."

The man was accompanied by five other members of the guard. They were in scaly armour similar to swimming tights and had a gleaming helmet with a glass front on their heads.

For weapons, there was a rope strapped to their waist, and they each had a long pointed sword in their hands.

The leader of the sea guard was about to jump when Wise held his hand.

"You can’t handle that thing."

Thwack!

"What?" The man’s face twisted in rage as he slapped Wise’s hand away. "Do you know how many Krakens I have killed?"

Wise frowned at the disrespect but held back his urge to shove the man into the ocean. "Baby Krakens..."

A vein was popping on the man’s head. "What did you say?!"

"You have been killing baby Krakens, this is the real deal, an adult."

"Why am I wasting my time with you?" The man spat.

"You are clearly clueless. Sea guard, move out!"

He pulled the glass covering of his helmet down to shield his face and jumped down from the ship.

The guards landed on the water surface as though it were solid land and then sped forward, charging right at the monster.

Among the six men, only one member of the sea guard heeded his advice and waited.

The young man looked nervous, he was most likely a coward, but his cowardice had saved his life.

"What are their chances?" He asked Wise from beside him.

Leaning at the edge of the ship, Wise watched as a tentacle began to rise from the surface of the water. "Zero."

**

"Surround it on both sides and aim for the hook on its head, if we manage to knock it down, it will destabilize it— what the hell?"

The guard captain watched with wide eyes as a gigantic tentacle rose from the sea, charging right towards them.

It was far larger than any tentacle he had ever seen and bore sharpened spikes at its edges.

’Could he have been right?’ The man briefly wondered.

’It doesn’t matter, I’ve killed more Krakens than anyone else. Very soon, this too will just be a number.’

"Second formation!" He screamed as the ocean guard dispatched, spreading away from each other.

Boom!

The tentacle exploded against the surface of the water, sending a large wave that rose high up into the sky.

’Too easy!’ None of the guards had been caught up in the blast.

’It is just big, it’s still as dumb as all the others.’

"Hit the hook with everything you have!"

A green energy began to swirl in his hands as he got nearer to the Kraken. "Now!"

Boom! Whoosh! Tzzzz!

The guard company unleashed a wave of devastating attacks aimed at the hook, causing an explosion of steam to spread around them.

"That’s it!" Once the steam began to clear, the captain watched as the hook fell apart, crumbling to dust.

"It’s time to finish it off!" He said, but instead of waiting for the others, he was already charging ahead, hoping to add another kill to his name.

That was how he had gotten promoted to captain in the first place. He was a professional kill thief!

"Skill, Swordfish Thrust!" The captain lifted his sword high up and plunged it right into the water above the broken hook.

But his sword just went right through, there was nothing there.

"A decoy?!"

To his horror, he saw a dark figure rising from the ocean, one so large that he felt his legs rattle.

He sprinted forward, hoping to escape, but the creature was just too large, no matter how fast he ran, he would never make it!

The silhouette of the monster suddenly appeared, moments away from slamming into him, a monster so large that it could swallow three ships whole.

"AHHHHHHHHHHH, HELP ME, SOMEBODY HELP ME!!" The captain screamed at the top of his voice, but the other guards like him were already running.

The creature’s large maws pushed up the water, tossing him high up into the air, and then the Kraken appeared.

Its maw was wide open, a mouth filled with so many serrated teeth that even the tongue had teeth!

"FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!" The captain felt a warm substance slip into his trousers.

He was seconds away from being swallowed whole when—

Boom!

Wise appeared next to him and drove his foot into his side, with so much force that he was launched straight at the ship, and into one of the retreating guards.

He stared down at the beast, a sword in hand... and then he smiled.

"If all I get to eat is fish, then no one is having any meat."
