Chapter 70: Domum Kingdom

The Skentic ruins was a highly dangerous area that was nestled in a vast forest, and beside that forest was the city of Domum.

Although their last stop would be the Skentic ruins, they could not spend whatever time they would stay there sleeping in the ruins, so they first stopped at the city.

The group of five walked through the streets of the city, taking in the scenery.

Due to the presence of an ancient ruin just outside the city, Domum was a popular tourist attraction that raked in tons of people every month.

Merchants loved to trade here, couples came here on their honeymoons, and even families visited on vacation.

And Wise could see why.

The city was beautiful...

Buildings towered into the sky like sentinels, magnificent works of architecture that had an ancient-modern design, giving them more character.

The streets were made with black stone that reflected the gentle morning light, resembling polished obsidian.

By the side of the street was a transportation device very similar to a train. It was slightly smaller and had tons of runic markings on almost every part of its body, but it served the same purpose of taking people from point A to B.

The girls watched the city, their eyes wide in astonishment. Domum was by far the most advanced city they had ever seen.

But while they seemed eager to try the train, Wise took a few steps away from it, recalling past trauma.

Excluding Daphne who walked next to him, the other three were straying a few feet away from him and observing every single thing they saw.

"Do we really get to stay here while training?" Esme asked, unable to keep the excitement from seeping into her voice.

Wise nodded as they strolled through the street. "For the most part, yes."

"But first, we have a lot to do. We have to rent a house first."

Staying at an inn for over a month or however long they would be staying would not just be more expensive, but also less comfortable.

"Then after that, we have to register at the city’s adventurers’ guild. Only approved members are allowed to enter the dangerous parts of the ruins."

"Plus, we need the ID to sell the monster parts we would be gathering."

As much as he didn’t want to admit it, he was going low on cash. He could only carry so many gold coins after all. freёweɓnovel_com

"And then finally, we will get our stuff from the post office."

A few nights before they left the city. Wise had instructed Daphne to sneak out and post all their bags to Domum.

That was the only reason they were not buying a whole new set of clothes.

"Alright. Let’s go to our first stop—"

"Awww, it’s so cute!" Esme screamed, interrupting him.

Wise turned around to find that the girls had surrounded what looked like a sentinel drone.

It was a round object that looked like it was made purely of stone. It had little feathers by its side and was somehow levitating.

The sentinel moved around, trying to escape, but it was surrounded all round.

"Cute? You are calling this little demon cute?" Aofie said, glaring at the sentinel.

’Well, she’s right...’

Although this one was a bit more advanced than regular sentinels. A sentinel was still a sentinel, war machines crafted for the purpose of destruction.

Freya tapped its bald head and smiled. "It’s so round and smooth. Daphne, try petting it."

The latter stared at it for some time before slowly placing her hand on its surface. "Hmmm."

"Alright, enough of that." Wise walked up to them and glared at the little guy. "Let’s get going, we have a lot to do."

The sentinel slowly arched upwards, staring at Wise.

". . ."

"ALERT ALERT ALERT!!"

It suddenly began to glow a bright red light and was slowly rotating from place to place.

"MONSTER DETECTED, MONSTER DETECTED!!"

The girls immediately backed away while Wise grabbed the little guy and shoved him into his shirt. But it continued blaring loudly

"Be quiet! You stupid piece of—"

A large shadow suddenly appeared over Wise. He gulped as he slowly turned around.

Standing a few feet away from him was a colossal sentinel the size of a double door carriage. It was designed to look like a floating square skull, with empty red eyes and a spiked jaw.

The little sentinel went quiet and slithered out of his shirt, just as the eyes of the gigantic sentinel began to glow a nasty red colour.

A death beam?

Boom!

Before the sentinel could unleash its blast, a shadow spike rammed into its side, followed by a burst of lightning that shattered the top part of the sentinel’s skull.

The large stone sentinel fell to the ground with a clang.

The normal reaction was to be happy that the girls had helped him avert danger. But that was not the case. Wise was furious.

He gasped, staring wide eyed at the damaged machine. "What the hell have you done?!" He turned to face Daphne and Aofie.

Alfie frowned. "What are you yapping about? We saved you just now."

"Saved me? That was an ancient sentinel, a city relic. Do you know how much it costs?"

Aofie shrugged and looked away, pouting.

Daphne on the other hand looked like she had zero fucks to give. She yawned and lazily looked around as though she was searching for a bench to nap.

As Wise walked toward the sentinel, trying to ascertain the level of damage, he heard the clicking of armour as a group of knights stopped in front of the shattered sentinel.

In front of them, leading the knights was none other than the damn tiny sentinel.

’Snitch...’

The sentinel hovered towards him and rotated around him for a few seconds as though to tell the guard. "It’s this guy right here!"

Frowning, the knight commander looked at the debris and back at him. "You’re coming with us!"

And that was how he was framed by the little guy for a crime he did not commit.

*

Hidden in a dark alley, shrouded in darkness, was a man in pitch black clothing, bottle-like spectacles that reflected the light and a black flat cap.

He watched the group, his eyes sharp as he took in every single detail. From the way they walked to the way they spoke to even their temperament, he took note of every single thing.

’An elf, an Ork and three humans... an unlikely combo.’ He mused as he brought his flat cap a bit lower.

He reached into his shirt and felt his dagger, which was now pulsing violently in his chest.

"Not now Occisor. Soon."
