The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 427: Sisterly behaviour- I
Estelle was the eldest child of my parents and the daughter of the responsibilities that were in front of her. She had accepted them and promised them with due diligence in the future.
My mother did not have any problems in teaching her how she was supposed to be a queen and what her responsibilities detailed. What morals she followed and what she let go of.
The ones she had included in the non-priority list were also Me and Catherine. Though we were not as high as the rest of our family members were, we were there when it came to the throne.
I knew about it. She confirmed it indirectly, her words did so I had always remembered it. It was not the reason why I always prioritized Catherine, because I knew Estelle would not.
I continued to stare at her, Reminding myself of all those times when she had made it known there was nothing that was in between her and the throne. But how was I supposed to know that she would send my little sister, barely hitting the age of fifteen, to a completely unknown destination, without anyone powerful enough to supervise her?
She could have passed on the information to a lord of any village to take care of our sister but she had made absolutely no efforts on this.
"I have always known that you were selfish to your own needs but I had always decided for the past and if not that, I had always tried to make your goal our goal. But even selfishness has its own limits, Estelle."
Shaking my head, I let my disappointment be known to her. "I truly cannot comprehend how he could not find any feelings in yourself to make an effort to make sure of your sister’s security. You could have hidden her in the palace itself, but you choose to send her so far away that when she was found, her skin was barely hanging onto her bones.." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"She was fine, alive. No one was looking for her, at least! She was safe." Estelle replied bitterly. "I did what I had to, and I had a window of time. The decision was—"
"She could have been safe but dead. Her dead body could have been brought away in a cottage to the point where no one would have been able to recognise her. What then?" my voice gradually increased with each word, refusing to believe that she could have been daft. "Even a single mother with her child knows better than to live in a barely inhabited area. Do you understand what kind of danger both of them could have been?! And what if Lara had never endangered herself, but let Catherine take all of it herself?!"
"She was told to do—"
"It doesn’t matter if she was told to do it or to do it. If it came to her life in danger, she could have easily escaped and forgotten about Catherine and kept the money she was given by you. In fact, she could have kept on taking money from you, but Catherine... she may not have even been here anymore." Leaving Tristan’s hand, I stepped closer to my sister. "I refuse to believe that you could not have thought of any of these consequences. What I do choose to be brave, is that you willingly did not think of them. You ignored them because they had nothing to do with you."
Her face changed and it was one of the rare times I witnessed the panic on her face. "I wanted to keep her safe—"
"She would have been safely hidden in the palace, or with one of the people who supported our mother and you as her legacy. In fact, she would have been safer with the people in politics rather than hungry peasants who would have taken any opportunity to—" I stopped myself before. I said something I didn’t even want to think about.
"A little girl, barely capable of defending herself and having no one to take care of her, was the easiest target anyone could have ever found." I shook my head in disgust. "If not as a sister, you should have thought as a woman, what could have happened to that girl."
Estelle closed her eyes, defeat written all over her face. "I did not—"
"I do not care what you think about what to say anymore. I truly cannot hear another word from you." I stepped away from her, emphasizing on how I felt. "You did not want her to be responsible and I understand that. But you could have done a lot more than just discarding your blood. I am going to take care of Catherine from now on. She will no longer live under your custody."
Her eyes flared up and I knew she was going to resist. I would have never taken a Catherine from her but I knew where her resistance was coming from. Estelle did not care about Catherine going away from her, what she cared about was that I was snatching someone she thought belonged to her.
She smirked. "Pray tell, where will you keep her? What house do you have?" She looked behind me, and at Tristan. "He is the one who has conquered a kingdom and you are no one to him. Is he going to allow your sister who he has no relation with in his house and feed her for free?"
I blinked at her with as much nonchalance as I could find myself before turning to Tristan. "I want my sister to live with me forever."
He bowed. "Your wish is my command, my queen."
Satisfied, I turned to my sister as she did the same to my king. She was looking for any kind of deceits that Tristan might have but he did not even have the amusement I know he felt. I felt a trace of it from the bond.
He had meant what he said. He would host Catherine until she wanted to live with me. Even if she did not and wanted to live in a separate house, Tristan would provide her that.
Her eyes turned to me and I smiled. "Would you look at that?"
Estelle opened her mouth to say something again, but having enough of her, I turned to Tristan. "Would you be alright taking care of everything? I’m going to go to Catherine."
I wanted to be beside her given what I had just come to know about. I would never tell her what her eldest sister had been, but I just needed to pacify myself with the knowledge that she is now safe and cared for.
He gave me a reassuring nod, and I was already out of the office.
