The Return Of His Ex Wife-Chapter 49: Come In
Chapter 49: Come In
Tara’s POV
I saw Arlo muttering something angrily to himself as he picked up the phone. I could see him as I stepped outside to pick something from the fridge.
"I can’t believe this." He said at last, out loud this time.
"What’s wrong?" Richard asked. "You really have stopped swearing, that’s nice of you."
He had on a blank stare on his face, but then I hit interested in Richard’s statement. Arlo was really changing, so fast. He stopped hitting on ladies shamelessly and actually looks and acts responsible and mature. His swear language had completely stopped that I wondered how far he was willing to go to impress Richard and I.
I felt my heart break as I realize a glimpse of the pain he must have felt when we were over at the hotel. I did hurt him.
"...is so annoying. And embarrassing, I mean what is she doing here!" I heard him talking.
Richard kept his coolness and composure for such a little kid that he was. He was nothing like Derek...
"Just go bring her in. She’s still your sister. You dunno what I would give to have a sister too."
I choked on the pea that I threw in my mouth. A sister?? He was already thinking of getting a sibling?
Arlo turned to look at me and the bastard actually smiled before heading towards the entrance.
Sofia stepped in with freshly baked bread that it’s aroma filled the air. "Hi guys! I thought I should come say hi." she announced.
"Hey, it’s nice having you hear." Richard said, clearly not hiding the fact that he has fallen in love with Sofia since after the vacation. She went ahead to give him a hug, falling on one kneel to match his height.
I couldn’t help but laugh at the way Arlo kept on talking to himself about how we were treating him like a baby and didn’t want to stop.
A couple of hours later and I was done cooking and serving as well. The meal was garnished and served on the dining table. I didn’t observe before but I could see Ella and Sofia talking and chatting like they’d been besties before. Ella brought out a cake and placed it at the center of the table while Sofia arranged the bread that had been sliced, along with some chocolate spread. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"Let’s dig in, please." I announced, feeling uncomfortable that they might have been passing a message that my food would tatse horrible. I was a really good cook!
First spoon in, and everyone were busy spitting and reaching for water on the table. I frowned," you guys don’t have to be this dramatic, you know?" I rolled my eyes, especially at Ella who was particularly the drama queen here!
"Richard, don’t eat it!" Ella cried out, "here. Dig in," she passed the cake to him along with a small plate and fork.
"You know that’s supposed to be for desserts, Ella." I shot her a warning glance.
"Sorry, but this is horrible. What is this supposed to be?" Ella spat out bits that were still in her mouth, clearly exaggerating again.
"It’s Lasagna." I replied with a frown.
"It’s too spicy.", Ella complained.
"And why isn’t there any cheese here?" Arlo, through panting and heavy breaths, managed to say.
"Cheese?" It didn’t occur to me! "The recipe didn’t add it. It was on this page and she is very influential."
"I highly doubt it, love. Everywhere there should have been cheese, we have hot pepper. And... Salt?" Ella said loudly.
Richard had begun to laugh now, more like roaring in laughter. "I love you mom, but I had a feeling you might ruin dinner. Sorry."
"Burn!" Sofia whispered,
"Preach, Richie!" Ella banged her fist on the table. Before I knew it, the entire room was filled with cheer of everyone mocking my cooking. All of my past cooking apparently! I could only do so much, only staring in silence as they each began to give account of just how bad I’d gone wrong.
After a while, we agreed to order some Chinese food and eat the cake for dessert. We ate and laughed over the table after our order came through. Feel down, I didn’t want that moment to end.
Sofia and Ella seemed to be so busy having even more fun. Apparently, Ella knew Sofia would be around and had hinted her to buy food, anything at all, spewing that I was a terrible cook. They confessed not so long ago, reminding me about how awful I was at cooking.
Then Sofia went ahead to say that she had handle all of our outfits for the party and we should come around to a big fashion house in town to come get tested.
"I’m so happy to be here now. Really, and I want to do more." she said.
"You don’t have to. We already like you." Richard said to her and we all confirmed it.
Our brief party dinner time was over, and everyone had reported to their rooms, even Sofia had to stay over because she had a couple of drinks and was feeling tipsy. The night was a quiet one now. I had put off the light, ready to shut down when a knock sounded from the door.
"Sunflower? Are you asleep already?" I heard his voice and my heart skipped a bit. Before, I was in total co from of my feelings but now, I didn’t like the way I felt so...nervous around him.
I cleared my throat and answered. "About to. Do you need anything?" Then I jumped out of bed and rushed to the door to open up.
Arlo had a towering stance over me, making my legs to nearly lose balance as I glared up at his piercing eyes. What was he doing here?
"Tara, I’m fine. Can I come in? Okay thank you," before I could say anything, his long legs had taken big steps in. He went and sat on the bed like we both owned it.
