Chapter 371: Chapter 371

Mid-Level Mountain Garden was not close to Rosemont University at all.

It was raining again, making driving difficult.

When Avery arrived at Joy’s door, it was already 11 p.m.

Avery calmly knocked.

The door opened quickly, and Joy, surprised by the late visit, asked, "What brings you here at this hour?"

With a smart person, there was no need for subtle or roundabout approaches.

Avery went straight to the point. "I’m here to pick up Arthur and Alaric."

Joy looked puzzled. "I don’t know who you’re talking about. Did you come to the wrong place?"

Avery stared at her. "What do I have to do to make you hand them over?"

Joy stepped aside and gestured inside. "Since you don’t believe me, how about searching for them yourself?"

Avery stared at her for a few more seconds. "Sure. Thank you. I’ll find them myself."

Avery walked past Joy, checking each room one by one.

The place was small enough that a single glance took it all in.

After a brief look around, Avery found no trace of Arthur or Alaric, nor any evidence they had been there at all.

Joy stood with her arms crossed, leaning casually against the doorframe of the study. "You’ve seen the place. Now, leave."

Standing away from Joy, her hands tucked in the pockets of her trench coat, Avery stared at her and said, "Since speaking nicely doesn’t seem to work, I guess we’ll have to make a deal."

Joy smirked. "A deal? I don’t need anything from you."

Avery said calmly, "You seem so confident relying on your powerful connections, aren’t you? But remember, powerful as you may be, this is my territory, and I’m no ordinary local."

Joy’s expression shifted to mild amusement. "Oh? From your words, you know my background now?"

"Of course. The Rose family," Avery replied coolly. "They may be powerful, but I’ve never had a reason to fear anyone and your standing with them isn’t exactly secure, is it?"

Joy’s eyes narrowed as Avery continued, "If you push me too far, I could take this straight to the Rose family. You know the consequences."

Joy’s expression finally changed when she heard the words "the Rose family."

Her once carefree demeanor vanished, and her elegant face darkened as if shadowed by a thin veil.

"What Rose family?" she asked, a trace of irritation in her voice. "Do you seriously think you can trip me up with a fake story?"

Avery ignored Joy’s attempt to feign ignorance.

She said, "Your English name is Rosa Jay. Your father is Augustine Rose, and your mother’s name is Nellie Lambert. You’re one of the reserve members of the Rose family’s Council of Elders, still in the evaluation phase."

Joy’s expression grew increasingly grim.

Avery added, "I know a lot more, but I won’t say it again unless you hurt my family."

Joy’s face darkened further. "Are you threatening me?"

Avery said calmly, "I’m merely stating the facts."

Joy said coolly, "I’m curious, knowing all of this, how do you still dare to threaten me?"

Avery sneered. "Because I already know who you are, but you don’t know anything about me."

This sentence clearly caught Joy’s attention.

Joy took a deep breath and stood up straight. She looked directly at Avery and asked, "Who exactly are you?"

Avery smiled. "I won’t tell you. You can investigate, but I advise you not to. Just like I advised others not to investigate you."

Joy gave Avery a long, scrutinizing look and adjusted her glasses. "Do you realize just how dangerous your situation is right now?"

Avery was still smiling. "I promise that no matter what happens, you will be in a more dangerous situation than me."

Joy stared intently at her.

Their eyes met, and there was a faint sense of sparks flying in the air.

After a moment, Joy looked away. She walked over to the table and took a small sip of her long-cold coffee. "I don’t know anyone named Arthur or Alaric," she said indifferently.

"But just now, I thought I heard something upstairs. Perhaps you should check there."

Avery smiled. "Thank you."

She turned and walked away.

As she opened the door, Joy’s voice sounded from behind her. "Once you find them, make sure to keep an eye on them. If they wander off again, you might really lose them for good."

Avery did not turn around. "Thanks for the reminder. I’ll keep an eye on them."

Joy added coldly, "And remember our deal. With an amount as huge as this, if you break your word, the compensation won’t be something you can handle."

Avery said calmly, "My memory is very good. I hope your memory is as good as mine."

With that, she strode out and closed the door behind her.

After climbing up one floor, Avery pushed open the door to the room directly above Joy’s and saw Arthur and Alaric lying on a bed.

The two of them seemed to be sleeping well. Their chests rose and fell slightly, and they were even snoring softly. Avery walked over and carefully examined their physical signs. She checked their pulses, eyelids, and mouths, confirming that neither of them had been poisoned or injured.

Afterward, she spent a few minutes carrying both men downstairs one by one, putting them in the car, and driving off.

In the darkness, Joy stood by the window, peeking through the curtains, watching Avery’s every move.

"I knew she wasn’t ordinary," Joy murmured. "But she really is... an ordinary person? Should I investigate her or not?"

She pondered for a while before shaking her head slowly. "Some things are better left unknown for now."

Downstairs, Avery’s car drove away.

Her meeting with Joy this time was peaceful. There were no fights or arguments.

However, if anyone had overheard her conversation with Joy, they would have been shocked. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

That was the Rose family they were talking about!

The Rose family was one of the most mysterious, wealthy, and influential families in the world.

The family’s history of success was as old as the rise of wealth in Western countries, with a standing that rivaled even the oldest royal families.

It was often said that multiple financial empires controlled the strings behind Aeloria’s government, and the Rose family was certainly one of them.

Almost every bank, prestigious university, major media outlet, and large corporation in the West had investments or even controlling stakes from them.

The Rose family’s influence could be traced to political revolutions, unrest, or policy changes in various countries.

Despite their considerable power, the family maintained a low profile, rarely stepping into the public eye.

Most of their influence was exerted through intermediaries who shaped decisions in Congress, banks, and large corporations. Little was known about the family’s members, their identities, or their positions.

However, Joy was not just a member of the Rose family she was also a potential future leader of the family’s most powerful branch: the Council of Elders. This meant she could one day become one of the highest authorities in the family. Such an identity was shocking enough.

What was even more astonishing was that Avery not only knew all of this but also had the ability to control Joy.

Avery was not proud of this.

She deliberately stalled for time and waited for the Carter family to fall asleep before returning to the villa.

By the time they arrived, Arthur and Alaric had woken up.

They only remembered going to Rosemont University to visit some friends but not finding them, so they ended up eating and drinking in the cafeteria. They had a few drinks, and without realizing it, they drank too much and forgot everything. They even forgot who they were looking for.

After asking a few more questions and confirming that Arthur and Alaric had completely forgotten about Joy and how the female lead of Chasing the Horizon resembled Zilvia,Avery finally felt a little more at ease.

"You two should go back to sleep. Don’t stay up too late playing games," she reminded them.

Arthur and Alaric, feeling guilty for causing Avery so much trouble by making her go to the school so late to pick them up, obediently nodded. "Okay," they said.

Avery thought to herself: They must have been hypnotized.

Joy’s hypnosis was very powerful.

This way, many things could be explained.
