The Secret Obsession of the CEO-Chapter 230: The Launch
"But you promised to testify against him," Rory asked. She didn’t think that the prosecutors would leave Liam alone. He is one of the main witnesses.
"Yeah..." Liam pulled her into a hug. "But I don’t want to..."
"Think about it more, Fizzy," Rory patted his hand. "If your mind is changing this fast, what if you regret not testifying against him in the future? Maybe testify. I know Sidney definitely would. Maybe you should too."
Liam nodded. He didn’t want to go there because of Sidney. Also, he didn’t want to leave his family alone for a long time. Rory would be safe here. And she can stay in the Campbell mansion in his absence. But still...
"Do you want me to go with you, Fizzy?" she asked.
She could say that Liam is worried about something. She guessed it might be about her.
"No, that won’t be... You won’t be left alone if you..."
"But I want to support you. I know you will regret it if you don’t testify," Rory said.
Liam stayed silent. He did think it would be better to have her with him. But she is feeling a lot better after staying here and he didn’t want her to suffer again by being back in that country.
And should he put his face out in the open to remind everyone that he is that guy’s son?
"He has murdered the immediate family of cops. And so, he will be tried in federal court for that. He’s finished, Cherry. He is..." Liam sighed.
"That’s good..." Rory kissed his cheek. "He confessed about that? Did he know that he’ll be tried in federal court for that?" she asked.
For someone who was smart enough to avoid the law for so long, he’s been so stupid these past few days. Is he even smart as they all believe? Or was it luck that he avoided getting caught till then?
"Maybe he didn’t..." Liam shrugged. "He must be so deprived now... Back then he used to love hearing how smart and great he is. He must not hear that a lot lately. He must be starving for attention and doing stupid stuff to get his quota of admiration... In the end, no one is above everything. Everyone has a weakness that ties them down..." He sighed.
Rory leaned on him and thought for some time.
"I always wanted to be there for his execution," she said. She should watch him die for the scars she bears in her heart to heal. "But maybe I should watch the trial. Maybe I should testify against him..." she thought out loud.
"Don’t push yourself too hard, Cherry. It’s fair for you to want revenge for what he put you through. But don’t let that feeling get your heart. You have me," he rubbed her back.
Rory thought about it. She wants to see Lennon suffer. But she should not put herself through pain for that. She does not like attention on her. Although she won’t be asked to testify against Lennon in front of him, there will be the jury and the others.
But maybe talking about what happened in the basement will help her...?
"I’ll think about it," she said.
-----
Days passed and the day of Liam’s departure came. Rory went to the airport to send him off. He told her to stay in the Campbell mansion, but she was comfortable staying in her house. She didn’t think that there will be security concerns in the place where she grew up.
But Count Charles did arrange her guards and he gave her a couple of trained guard dogs. So she didn’t find staying in that house alone hard.
The pre-planning for the launch of Liam’s company website was complete. They were planning on launching it before the trials.
He talked to her about the launch party. And he was very apologetic that she won’t be there. Rory was not in the mood for travel although she wanted to stand by his side for the launch. To be honest, she was not happy at all that Liam is launching his company without her. And there is a party, and he is going to attend it alone.
How can he do that?
She wanted to fight with him. She felt left out. But then she thought about it. This is not about the launch, but more about the trial.
She decided to leave it as it is. As long as Liam becomes successful, that is enough for her.
That day, he called her and asked her if she was sad that she is not with him. She answered him truthfully.
"Open the door," he said.
Rory didn’t understand but opened the door as he said.
"What are you doing here?" she jumped and hugged him.
"Come on, get ready. You are coming to the launch party with me," he smiled widely. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Really?" Rory didn’t ask him anything else and ran to pack her bags. He could have asked her to pack her bags early. That would have made everything easier. But she was excited, nonetheless.
She has never attended this kind of business party. This was the first time.
Liam smiled as he could see how excited she was. He didn’t want to bring her back there when the trial was so near. But then he realized that he is missing the most important thing.
She is his wife. And he is starting the business for her. He did the same back then and yet he did everything without her. That didn’t turn out well. He wanted to change everything this time around and yet he almost did the same mistake.
How stupid is he still?
That’s why he decided to take their private jet to come to fetch her. For better and worse, she has been his strength and he cannot start this new Chapter of his life without her by his side.
And he forgot that she is the biggest investor in his company. How can he even stop her from attending the launch party?
He should be careful not to exclude her from his life for any reason.
He still couldn’t believe that she didn’t fight with him about that. Judging by how excited she is, she must have been pretty sad that he didn’t want her at the launch party. But she didn’t even mention it to him. He knew it. He could hear it in her tone, but she didn’t say one word.
She has changed so much... Or did she?
He smiled. She hasn’t changed much. And he can’t fall more in love with her.
Rory was beyond surprised to see their own jet. And Liam was happy to see her happy. All he wanted was to see her happy like this forever.
Like Liam promised, he brought her to the fashion studio of a top designer and got her a couture dress. They said that the embellished dress was one of a kind and that no one else in this world will have this dress.
Rory didn’t know why that meant something. She never had problems wearing mass-produced clothes. But maybe having one insanely expensive dress that no one else will own is not bad.
She couldn’t help but kiss Liam for his thoughtfulness.
Hooking her arms in his, Rory walked into the hall. She had a proud smile on her face when Liam introduced her as his wife. This may be the first time he is introducing her as such in front of such a crowd. She was beyond delighted, she had to control her tears from ruining her makeup.
The launch party went very well. They had a Hollywood star as a brand ambassador this time. She asked him why he didn’t model for his company. He said that he didn’t want his face on the billboards.
And in the dance floor, they danced. She asked him about it.
And he said the sweetest thing.
He said that the reason he made sure billboards with his face all over the city was that he wanted her to not forget him.
His hand was around her waist and in his shimmering sapphire blue eyes that reflected her image, she detected no lie.
He really had his face plastered all over the city so that she would see his face.
"You are a narcissist... You hurt me and then did such a thing," Rory buried her face in his chest to cover her blush.
Liam held her chin and made her look at him.
"Why are you not getting mad at me ever, Cherry?" he asked.
"Why?" she asked. Only then she realized that she might have gotten mad at him for hurting her in the first place. But rather than focusing on him hurting her she had focused on him still wanting her to remember him.
It was a little screwed up of him to think that way. But it still was sweet.
He didn’t divorce her because he didn’t like her anymore. He had other reasons. And he still loved her.
"I do have very low expectations from you, don’t I?" She let out a sigh.
Liam pouted.
"I love you, Fizzy," she smiled.
She can fight with him. But what did that do? That only made his mood spoiled and pushed him away.
Isn’t she getting what she wanted even when she didn’t fight for what she thinks she deserves?
So why should she fight? She married a good man. He will give her what she wants even if she doesn’t fight!
