Chapter 103 -7: Means

However, there was no time to consider Yang Ming’s purpose at the moment.

The monster circling above swooped down, Yang Ming started killing, not paying any more attention to the Desert Hunters.

“Boom, boom…” Ye Qingdie opened fire continuously, Shadow and Elsa were by her side, with Qin Fu and the other two behind.

“Stick close to me.”

Xu Mo moved forward, and Ye Qingdie and the others immediately followed.

In a brief moment, the people ahead had already run far away.

Yang Ming had only stopped them for a moment, attracting a group of monsters, it seemed he had achieved his purpose and no longer cared about these Desert Hunters.

As Xu Mo and the others moved forward, they attracted half of the monsters to pounce towards them.

“Boom.” Ye Qingdie fired again, but several monsters continued to dive down.

“Be careful.” Qin Lan’s face changed.

Xu Mo’s body suddenly leapt up, his War Saber dancing in the air, splattering blood rain, as the bodies of the monsters fell one by one.

Qin Lan glanced at those bodies, these monsters were money in normal times!

However, there usually wouldn’t be monsters appearing in large numbers like this.

Even so, with Xu Mo’s strength, even if he became a Desert Hunter, earning a few thousand Federation dollars a day by killing them for a few hundred each should be easy.

They ran forward, surrounding Xu Mo; monsters circled above their heads, and the number seemed to be increasing.

More monsters were descending from the sky, endlessly.

“You all run at full speed, don’t pay attention to the monsters,” Xu Mo said as he ran, the others nodded, not looking at the monsters and ran forward at full speed.

Otherwise, if they continued like this, they would only be exhausted to death.

The monsters were unending.

Monsters continued to pounce down, but as they were about to attack, they encountered a resistance that slowed their speed, then were split by a saber slash.

“Buzz.”

Above their heads, a terrifying monster storm appeared, the circling monsters dove down simultaneously, and Xu Mo sensed the presence of a B-level monster.

“This is trouble.”

Xu Mo thought to himself, as the monster horde, blotting out the sky, charged down.

A dark cloud pressing overhead.

It was like the end of days.

Qin Fu and Qin Lan’s faces turned pale, their bodies trembling slightly as they ran, feeling their legs go weak.

How could they kill them all?

They were endless; even if Xu Mo was strong, it was impossible to eradicate so many monsters.

Would they die here?

Just as this thought emerged, Qin Lan once again saw an extremely dazzling scene.

Xu Mo’s body suddenly lit up with electrical light, flickering across the Battle Armor, and even the air was filled with flashes of lightning, illuminating this oppressed space.

The plunging horde of monsters let out sharp, piercing cries as electrical currents struck their bodies, causing them to lose stability.

The sky-covering monsters charged, and a terrifying storm of electrical currents swept out.

Xu Mo made his move.

Qin Lan had thought that the previous strike was the most stunning she had ever seen.

Not anymore.

With the Power of Thunder and Lightning carried in the slash, the horde of monsters burst apart.

Blood rain fell from the sky.

Several strikes in succession, and the entire dark mass fell.

The speed of the fleeing crowd was not greatly affected.

But within the hearts of Qin Lan and Qin Fu, they had experienced an unparalleled shock.

A sixteen-year-old Desert Hunter youth?

If they hadn’t believed Xu Mo’s words, Qin Fu might have suspected he was a trainee from some academy out on a trial.

But Xu Mo, he clearly didn’t understand anything.

So, what kind of monster was this?

The crisis was not over; they continued to slay monsters along the way.

But a B-rank monster in the sky had set its sights on them.

This monster was five to six meters long, its wings spread terrifyingly wide, its head flat, but its eyes extremely sharp, always watching Xu Mo.

Just then, Xu Mo and his group saw a figure speeding towards them from ahead.

It was Lin Xi.

She’d already escorted the people onto the vehicle and was coming back to provide support.

The B-rank monster dove down, lunging at Xu Mo and his group.

As it swooped in, it opened its mouth, directly spitting out a bolt of lightning, striking towards Xu Mo.

Xu Mo raised his War Saber to slash out, the Lightning hitting the War Saber, coursing over the Battle Armor, depleting the armor’s energy, and with his body sliding, scraping against the ground.

And the monster struck down, its claws charged with the Power of thunder and lightning, snatching down at him.

“Buzz.” Lin Xi leapt through the air, stepping mid-air, appearing above Xu Mo’s head, swinging her twin swords down at the same time, clashing with the diving monster.

Lin Xi landed, somewhat heroic.

Meanwhile, the monster charged upwards, its gaze still fixed on them.

“You go and regroup with the others,” Lin Xi said.

She, Yang Ming, and Benjamin had B-level Combat Power, making them much safer.

“Thank you,” Xu Mo said, and then the group continued on.

Lin Xi and the B-rank monster in the sky faced off against each other.

Xu Mo and his group proceeded onward, and although C-rank monsters continued to pursue them, they no longer posed a threat.

“That monster is a Skoll Beast, capable of devouring and absorbing the Power of thunder and lightning, I’m afraid it’s not easy to deal with,” said Qin Fu, showing some concern for Lin Xi.

Both being instructors at the academy, Yang Ming and Lin Xi were entirely different in terms of character.

Yang Ming seemed to be targeting them, not caring at all about the lives of these Desert Hunters.

Lin Xi, on the other hand, was different, helping whenever she could.

Xu Mo looked thoughtful, as he could sense the strength of the Source Power; Lin Xi’s Source Power wasn’t very strong, not much different from that of the Skoll Beast.

Moreover, the Skoll Beast possessed the abilities of the thunder and lightning series and could fly, indeed making it a difficult opponent.

First, they had to get to the vehicles.

The group ran and leaped rapidly through the ruins, and before long, they saw the shadow of the vehicles breaking through the rubble and moving forward.

Sun Xiaoxiao operated the Mecha’s weapons from the roof of the vehicle, firing shots, while Xiao Qi cheered beside her.

“Brother Mo, hurry,” Xiao Qi shouted as she saw Xu Mo and his group approaching.

“You guys get on first, I’m going to go back and have a look,” Xu Mo said, then came to a halt.

“Xu Mo,” Elsa looked at him.

“We’ll go first,” Ye Qingdie said to her.

Qin Fu and the others approached the vehicle; the doors opened, and people got in one after another.

Qin Fu took one last look at Xu Mo running towards the distance.

Even now, the shock in his heart had not completely settled.

That dazzling slash made him realize that this sixteen-year-old youth was anything but ordinary.

……

Lin Xi indeed encountered trouble.

And it was no trivial matter.

It was not only the B-rank Sko Monster attacking her but also many C-rank Monsters that were swarming around her.

She appeared somewhat in disarray, but her dual sword movements remained fluid and graceful.

“Why did you come back?” Lin Xi asked Xu Mo, fearing he would be a burden.

Xu Mo didn’t say a word. He immediately began slaughtering the Monsters, and with each swing of his War Saber, a C-rank Monster was cleaved in two.

Lin Xi realized she had overthought it.

This boy under the age of seventeen had strong Combat Power.

Then, the Sko Monster dived down again, spewing lightning, and directly struck Lin Xi’s Battle Armor.

Lin Xi held her swords, waiting for the Sko Monster.

“Buzz.”

The massive Monster lunged down. Its claws actually grabbed Lin Xi’s swords, and its mouth spewed lightning at her.

The Power of Thunder and Lightning crazily ravaged the energy of the Battle Armor, and Lin Xi’s face turned extremely ugly; the other C-rank Monsters also pounced on her wildly.

“Boom.”

Xu Mo burst forth, his blade flashing continuously as he sliced, and the bodies of Monsters flew in disarray.

He lifted his War Saber, not in a slashing stance, but as if he was positioning the saber behind him, then he thrust it forward like a projectile.

The War Saber was used like an arrow, whistling through the air, tearing through the void.

The Sko Monster seemed to sense it. It looked up at the saber and spewed lightning at it.

With his spiritual power aiding him, Xu Mo’s War Saber penetrated the lightning and continued forward, bathed in the brilliance of the Lightning and striking its target.

“Sizzle…”

The War Saber stabbed into the mouth of the Sko Monster.

Intense pain caused the Sko Monster to let out a miserable howl, and its claws loosened.

Lin Xi seized the opportunity, and her dual swords slashed out, slicing across the Sko Monster’s abdomen.

The sound of flesh being cut and the spray of fresh blood echoed through the air.

Lin Xi’s body passed over the Monster, turning back just in time to see the Sko Monster fall.

The other Monsters dared not rush forward anymore.

Xu Mo stepped forward to pull out his War Saber.

In the distance, Benjamin and Yang Ming had already joined forces and were running in this direction.

In another direction, a vehicle struggled to climb over ruins.

Xu Mo stepped forward to pull out his War Saber.

“Thank you,” Lin Xi said to Xu Mo in gratitude.

This young man had helped them greatly this time.

Otherwise, she would have been in some trouble.

The group converged and got into the vehicle, which then turned around and took off.

The vehicle drove out of the ruins and, leaving the area behind, sped forward.

A Mecha was still atop the vehicle, with Xiao Qi sitting beside it.

Xu Mo crawled to the top as well, witnessing the swarm of Monsters, which gave him a sense of an approaching apocalypse.

Qin Fu climbed up the stairs from the cabin, looking worriedly towards the base.

He wondered whether the base had been attacked.

When the vehicle returned to the base, Monsters had already breached it, but a large number of Desert Hunters had gathered and held the advantage.

Even so, the Monsters running amok had still killed quite a few people.

The base’s population was evacuating profusely, with vehicles frantically leaving the base toward the city.

On the road, Qin Fu encountered an acquaintance, learning that his son had already fled to the city with his wife.

Qin Fu sighed.

“Coward!” Qin Lan cursed after hearing this.

They fought desperately in ruins, while that good-for-nothing fled promptly.

The Hunter Guild also evacuated, the gates shut tight.

Qin Fu furrowed his brow, took out his Communicator to make contact, only to discover that he couldn’t reach anyone.

“Mr. Yang, Miss Lin, what about our payment?” Qin Fu could only turn to Yang Ming and Lin Xi.

They were the employers.

Lin Xi looked towards Yang Ming; she hadn’t handled this matter, as it was he who had arranged it all.

“The payment has already been settled in advance with the Hunter Guild. You have your own contacts, so after you find the person, ask them for it,” Yang Ming replied.

“Isn’t it standard to only pay a portion of the fee before the task is completed?” Qin Fu asked, puzzled.

“Are you questioning my word?” Yang Ming frowned at the Desert Hunter in front of him.

“I didn’t mean that,” Qin Fu said, feeling a strong oppressive aura.

With less status, he couldn’t confront Yang Ming directly.

But having nearly lost his life in the ruins, he should at least get his payment, right?

“I can vouch for Teacher Yang. My dad asked Instructor Yang to help hire the Desert Hunters, and the Instructor already gave the Federation credits to the Hunter Guild in advance,” Sun Xiaoxiao said from inside the Mecha.

Xiao Qi’s eyes lit up a bit more.

“Xiao Xiao, was it your dad who funded this?” Xiao Qi asked.

What kind of family is this?

Sun Xiaoxiao didn’t respond to him.

“You heard what was said,” Yang Ming didn’t explain much to Qin Fu.

Qin Fu looked displeased, but it seemed he had no other choice but to find the person responsible.

Hopefully, he could get his payment.

Xu Mo, on the other hand, furrowed his brow.

The money had come from Sun Xiaoxiao’s family.

There was actually no great need to hire the Desert Hunters for this venture; they were somewhat superfluous.

Sun Xiaoxiao’s father had spent the money, taking into account her safety, but there were no doubt other motives as well.

For instance, to bribe Yang Ming!

To have him take extra care of Sun Xiaoxiao during the trial.

Getting kickbacks was all too common in Xu Mo’s previous life.

Two hundred thousand Federation credits, a substantial amount for the average person.

But for someone at Yang Ming’s level, it would be considered a moderate figure, and it was reasonable for Sun Xiaoxiao’s family to spend it for his favor.

However, Yang Ming had ostensibly given all the money to the Hunter Guild.

Was he truly not taking a single cent?

Suddenly, Xu Mo understood why Yang Ming’s behavior in the ruins had been so unreasonable.

Yang Ming hadn’t deliberately targeted them, but he presumably wanted them to fend for themselves amid the ruins.

If they died, there would be no one to claim the payment!
