The Simple Life of Killing Demons-Chapter 53Book 12:
Book 12: Chapter 53
Volume 12 Chapter 53 : Insect Plague
Margado was a large agricultural city in Spirit Country, rich in various plants, herbs and fruits.
There, the resident population was the smallest among the five major towns in Spirit Country, yet, it occupied the largest area. The city of Margado sat in the center of the vast Cayenne Field. Due to the existence of a large number of farmland and farms, there was no so-called main city wall in Margado, and it was actually composed of countless scattered villages.
After human food culture was introduced into the demon realm and spread to Spirit Country, it played a greater role there. The uses of rice, wheat, and various ingredients were discovered. Ever since the spirits had knowledge of food, the food produced there had never stopped being transported.
That place was originally not very favored and there were not many noble spirits, but it became a place for human food production. The spirits there tried a variety of ingredients and made a lot of delicious food.
Since the Cayenne Field itself was a suitable place for the development of large-scale agriculture, it was rich in various product resources. Therefore, the spirits basically did not need to go out. Among the accidental disappearances of spirits in various parts of Spirit Country, Margado actually had only one case. For the local residents, they considered themselves very lucky.
However, that night, they would lose their luck forever.
A beast-mans child was pulling out a few sweet potatoes from the familys field, because he just discovered a new way to eat sweet potatoes that day: By boiling it with water, the flesh and skin will become more delicious. He wanted to pick some home and enjoy it with his family. Out of the blue, it was chilly. Out of biological instinct, the child felt as if something bad was approaching him.
He could not help but look up at the sky.
The sky was very gray. Although it would be like that on cloudy nights, the sky that day terrified him. Why? He did not know either. There was no moon. It was pitch-black, and he felt suffocated by the clouds, as if they would press down against him in the next moment.
Suddenly, lightning flashed across the dark clouds, briefly illuminating the sky. The little beast-child seemed to vaguely see several shadows flying towards his direction, which startled him. He quickly picked up the sweet potatoes and ran home.
Seeing his son returning in a hurry, the father wondered why he was so nervous, so he squatted down, patted his head, and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"
"No, nothing." The beast-child felt that he had just misinterpreted, so he shook his head and showed the sweet potato in his arms.
"What a little glutton, he came back in such a hurry just to eat sweet potatoes quickly." His mother smiled lovingly, nagged him for his gluttony, while coming over to take away the sweet potatoes. She put them in a pot and started boiling them.
"Don't go out at night from now on, understand? Recently, there's been a lack of peace outside. There might be demons that will take you away." The father pretended to be scary, while bluffing the beast-child.
"Yes." The beast-child nodded obediently, but suddenly the uneasy feeling from before reappeared in his heart.
"Dad, did you hear any strange sounds?" The beast-child twitched his ears uneasily. He felt that he heard some subtle sounds, like the sound made by insects flapping their wings in the field.
"Sounds?" The father also noticed his son's abnormality, so he stood up and tried listening. Then, he said, "No. You little fellow, do you want to fool me know that Ive fooled you?"
"It's not it, Dad. There really is a sound The sound has stopped now. It seemsit seems to have stopped outside." The beast-child pointed to a wall of his house. His mother was there looking at the sweet potatoes in the pot.
"If that's the case, why hasn't Dad hear it?" The father knocked on the head of the beast-child, "At night, just remember not to"
"Hhong!" A sudden explosion sounded in their ears. The brick wall that made the beast-child feel uneasy was hit by an unknown huge impact. Countless bricks were mixed with some broken wooden frames, quickly drowning everyone in the house.
When the child opened his eyes again, there was only a red light in sight. His house was already on fire.
The beast-child who woke up suddenly raised his head and looked at his father, who was lying on top of him at that time. The blood flowed from his father's head, and began to fall on his face, drop by drop, onto the fur on his face, slowly spreading sideways.
"Dad!"
""
His father fainted. Just now, in order to protect his son, his head was hit by a brick, and a thick piece of wood fell through his thigh.
"Quick run"
At that time, the beast-child heard his mother's weak cry, which caught his attention. Thats right, Mom!
Helping his injured father to one side, the beast-child quickly got up.
"Mama"
However, the scene in front of him stunned him.
"Ugh" The father had regained some conscious after being pushed a bit. Slowly and reluctantly, he crawled up while enduring the pain in his thigh.
"Are you okay." However, when he saw the child's dumbfounded look, he followed his gaze.
His heart seemed to stop beating at that moment. His beloved wife, who was smiling lovingly just now, had her arm
"Quick run" From the mother's mouth, words and blood were spat out together.
"Damn it!!!" As if he became a madman, the beast pulled out the splinters from his thigh, picked up a broken wooden beam scattered on the ground, and rushed to pick up his wife, away from the sharp claws of the demonic insect that was munching on his wife.
The beast father used a wooden beam with wind magic to sweep across the upper joint of the monster's claw. With a clack, the female beast fell to the ground with a plop, but her eyes were already dull.
The demonic insect's claw broke off and it screeched. Following that was a spit of mucus at the beast.
The beast picked up the female beast and hurried to hide, but the sudden weakness in his thigh made him lose his center of gravity. His shoulder was accidentally stained with mucus, his clothes were immediately corroded, and his face was distorted by the burning pain.
"Run! Just run! Child! Leave quickly!" Looking at the wife in his arms, the beast father hissed at the still stupefied child behind him.
However, the child was already terrified out of his wits by the sight in front of him.
"Im telling you to leave right now!!!"
The father's violent yell made the child finally woke up from the shock just now. He cried as he crawled out of the house.
To the child, the home had become hell. After the child came out of the house, he took a deep breath and even forgotten about crying. His whole body seemed to have lost its last strength as he slumped onto the ground.
Why is this happening? Is it really because I shouldn't go out at night
Insects that were never seen before were all over the ground at that moment.
The screams and cries for help resounded through the sky. The peaceful night was no longer peaceful.
Selga
Selga, the industrial city of Spirit Country, was sat next to a mountain range and was rich in mineral resources. Many of the materials for making weapons originated from there.
"What!? What the heck is going on here!" In the hall of Fog Castle, the black-haired spirit city lord sitting on a high chair jumped up after listening to the reports of several soldiers covered in blood.
"We don't know. Because there were disappearances in various places, we were ordered by City Lord Hedro to station outside to prevent foreign enemies from invading.
Just a while ago, a monster from nowhere attacked us, causing heavy casualties. A few of us have Captain to stall time for us to give our report here. Speaking of that, the eyes of the soldiers were moist. The tragedy of the death of their companions was deeply engraved in their minds.
They still remembered that before they were attacked, the captain sat by the fire and said to them, "I will cook delicious food, and then I will go to her."
Her. The soldiers all know that she was the captains favorite spirit. The captain has liked her since he was a child. She also liked the captain, and had been waiting for the captain to take the initiative.
However, now, she could not wait for the captain anymore.
"Why? Why hasn't the Bell of Defense chimed? It usually should chime to alarm us. What about the scouts? It's impossible for them not to find out, right?" Since Margado had no main city wall, it was the primary target of the lowly demons attack. There had been quite a few attacks, but with the Bell of Defense and the scouts, they had been able to repel the lowly demons without a hitch every single time.
"We want to figure that out too!!!" The soldier shouted, "Instead of saying this, Lord Tasser, I beg you to come to the rescue!"
A young male spirit sitting next to Tasser also said, "Yes, Dad, hurry up and send soldiers to the rescue."
"Well Sure, but" After pondering for a while, Tasser spoke, "Why didn't the Bell of Defense chime, and what happened to the scouts? Also, why does your city lord want all of you to station so far away? There are many strange points in this."
"City Lord Tasser, what do you mean? Are you saying that our city lord purposely ordered us to camp far away so that when we were attacked, we couldn't report back to the city in time to let the spirits escape and not let the Bell of Defense alarm us? City Lord Hedro will never do this. He is the most benevolent of the three city lords!"
"That's not what I meant. It's just that Im wary."
"Dad, let's talk about this later. Should we send troops to support them? Anyway, Margado is not far from us. If they pick up speed, they will definitely be there in an hour."
"Taroma, when in face of crisis, one should not think with emotions first, but use the brain to analyze why such a thing happened and what to do. You have to remember this."
"I know, but, Dad, we don't have time to delay any longer."
"Fine, I'll go and inform the other city lords, and we'll start to set off in ten minutes." Tasser waved his hand, and the soldiers below all showed happy smiles, "Thank you, City Lord Tasser, and thank you, Young Master Taroma."
"You all have worked hard. Servants, take them for a break, and clean up the wounds by the way. I need you to provide information about the enemies later." After Tasser finished speaking, the soldiers were taken away by the servants. The elder standing next to him told Tasser something. Tasser nodded, and the elder left.
Tasser sighed as he glanced at his young son.
